In my opinion the Longines L990 anniversary edition is a amazingly cool watch under 5000 bucks. It has a solid gold case, a halfhunter caseback and uses Longines their last fully inhouse manufactured/designed movement! (Usually priced around 2500 to 3000 USD on the pre-owned market) The calibre L990 was the worlds thinnest full rotor automatic movement with a secondshand at one point in time.
Whoaa Horlogerie! That does sound like a lot of watch for your horological buck! I have their anniversary 'Equation of Time' watch and love it! Take care, Bill
I got the Omega Globemaster Constellation with the 8900 a couple years ago for around that number and a Parmigiani Tonda 1950 also. Love both of those watches. I'm looking at the Piaget Polo FortyFive and the Parmigiani Tonda Hemispheres that sorely temps me! lol I saw a zenith with the 4069 El Primero that looked yummy too. lol Those original Roger Dubuis are special though and of course if Bill wants another one then that's all I need to know!!!!! Nice little video to wake up to Bill.
Leigh, the Globemaster is one that flies under the radar, but is a very cool watch. The PF Tonda 1950 is a classic! For travel, the Hemispheres is a gem! Take care, Bill
picked up a (2021) cartier tank mc for around that price. black dial. the 1904 movement with small seconds and date and it wears great. beautiful design, nice enough finishing and gorgeous croc strap. was able to extend the official cartier warranty too.
Another fantastic video Bill. I'm especially happy that you are featuring 2 watches that I currently own, the Omega Moonwatch and the Dornbluth 99.1, as well a watch I've had my eye on for some time, the Roger Dubuis Sympathie. The Habring2 is also a favorite of mine. The more I learn, the more I have come to appreciate the movement above all else. I'm not saying aesthetics don't factor in, but I get a lot of pleasure researching and learning about the movement. Best regards, Brian
Hey Brian, glad it was helpful. After looking at the open view of the Roger Dubuis's movement, I was impressed by the quality over all of the others. Really a beautiful movement. There's no end to this, is there? We're all doomed to a happy chain of watches.😳 Take care, Bill
Hi Bill! I really admire Dornbluth and what they've been able to accomplish as a small shop. I've spent more on a Tudor before, so this is seriously great value around $5,000!
The Habring2 and the Dornbluth are the most attractive propositions in my opinion. I like the Omega for the blue dial and because is a robust watch for everyday everyday use at 150m water proof. Thanks Bill for great videos!
Hi Bill, I’m a big fan of early RD, and recommend his Just For Friend series. I’ve been considering a second piece that’s been available for a while at a great price. I can’t understand why it hasn’t sold yet, but along with your thinking … I won’t divulge it here. Wink-wink. I’ve also alway’s been right with you in your fine overall taste.
Bill, I have the Acqua Mare.. Square Dive watch?? I found a Mid-Size which is more than big enough. It also has the Diamond bezel, which is subtle and interesting set. I’m not a Bling guy, although the price seemed as if the diamonds were thrown in for free or even reduced beacuase of them. My policy was to have only one representation of a brand, but maybe break that rule once, then limit a brand to only two. You know how that goes … Enjoy!
@@bretthermance52 That's an unusual diver, and I bet you could use it as a dress watch as well-about the only diver I know that has double utility in sport and dress! Cool watch!
I have a Zenith Elite Port Royal V that I believe uses the same base movement as the one you talked about. I think it is caliber 680. Great watch and movement and allows quick setting date back and forth. I bought mine from a private seller through Chrono24 about two years ago for $1,600, but ended up having to send it to Zenith for an overhaul, $750. Still a good total price in my opinion! On a full bracelet too, with an exhibition back attached by 6 tiny screws.
Another great watch/view, thanks Bill:) I must say, you are looking fantastic! Glowing with health, looking slim, and rocking that Beret/Jumper combo so , so well! Styling sir, styling.
You never disappoint Bill! At £5k you get some great options, especially preowned. New there’s still a compromise between finishing and movement (as you’ve shown with great choices). Regards, Ed
Great selection! Zenith and Dornbluth for me. 😊 Although I also like the Aqua Terra a lot (co-axial!), modern Omega's are a little to thick for my taste. Roger Dubuis makes excellent watches, but their styling isn't really my taste.
Thanks Bill. The D Dornbluth’s in house caliber is the exact replica of Unitas 6498-1. And for that price I can get higher finishing and better frosted silver dial from other German watchmakers. After investigating a lot of these so called in house movements even from high horology watchmakers , I realized that there are quite a few that just opened and polished another out-house 😅movement and ebauche and just did a minimal pinion location or bridge plate mod and renaming it as their own. A lot of reverse engineering happens in watch industry and a lot of movements are copied. Many of the so called new complications are just the revival of the old masters or unknown hero’s work up to 40’s.
Nice choices very close to my own list, though Roger D’s sense of aesthetic doesn’t speak to me much. I’d replace that with a manual wound Grand Seiko SBGW in one flavor or another. I’ve got an Omega Railmaster which can be found for well below its 5k list with no difficulty I wear it to work daily, physical job, no worries. The Zenith Elite is an overlooked series. They have a very nice moonphase too. I recently read an interview featuring their CEO, sounds as if they are turning their attention to that line next in an effort to both look towards their past and into the future for a general refresh. I like the sounds of that. Zenith are great value in the pre owned market. I found a beautiful A385 at half the retail price, that’s not uncommon, their are other opportunities. Stunning vintage reissue. D Dornbluth & Sohn, Habring2, what’s not to like about them? I suppose I find Habring’s collection a little more interesting, they offer such unique complications with an aesthetic that is part tool watch, part dress watch. Dornbluth, they seem to have perfected what I’d call a Deck Watch or Marine Chronometer, keeper of the flame of an older world aesthetic. Great video Bill!
Within the last month I added two great watches for less than $5,000 each, both from the secondary market: A never-worn Hermes H08 on a titanium bracelet (caliber H1837, by Vaucher), and a 1-year-old barely-used Omega Globemaster blue dial on a stainless steel bracelet (caliber 8900). There really are some hidden gems around the $5,000 price point.
Very nice Remus! I was just commenting on Leigh's Globemaster-great under appreciated watch. As for the H08-it was advertised on the back cover of my New Yorker, but that watch is another class act.Take care, Bill
I also looked at that Speedmaster earlier this week and saw a real deal on it. I think it was like $3600. It wasn’t chrono. I’m trying to remember where.
Bill, why don’t you do a retrospective collection?….watches we could have bought in the 80s and 90s when they were reasonably priced ?? Or watches that have gone out of fashion and are still great…eg Ebel??
As always, excellent choices Dr.! Really like the Zenith!
Everyone talks about the El Primero, Javi, but the Zenith Elite is a great watch as well. Take care, Bill

Really enjoying your content. I love to hear your impressions of watches, especially watches that offer a lot of value for money. Thank you!
Glad you like them, Sean! It's my pleasure! Take care, Bill
Hi Bill. The Zenith Elite looks to be a great everyday watch. And as you state, one that does not immediately spring to mind.
Yeah, Tuna! I have one and more often than not, I forget I do! Poor Zenith-a neglected child. Take care, Bill
Elite with sweep seconds and date should be cal. 670. Good selection as always.
Whoops! Did I screw that up Velviaman? Thanks! I'll correct that somehow... Take care, Bill
The Habring2 and the Dornbluth are the most attractive propositions in my opinion. I like the Omega for the blue dial and because is a robust watch for everyday everyday use at 150m water proof. Thanks Bill for great videos!
I kinda hope to see slightly smaller watches from both brands someday

I think it's important not to get a watch, Lex, that's not your cup of tea-even if it's well priced and has a great reputation. Take care, Bill
Well done
Thanks John. Take care, Bill
Yes had and love the Zenith & Roger Dubuis 🤩

Hey Robert, thanks man! You are right the Z Elite is a true hidden gem ... even though it's hidden in plain sight! Take care, Bill
Considering most of these are new prices that's great. I think going second hand should definitely be considered
Probably the very best deals are on pre-owned watches for that price range, Hero. Take care, Bill

Hello Bill ☕☕ 🤠 . Damn, $5 hook me up. I just picked up a casio CA53W ( Back to the Future) watch for 15.00 😋😋
There you go Idletime! 😉 Take care, Bill
