Yes, Bulova and Frederique Constant are both owned by Citizen. So now this group can boast having the two most accurate quartz movements plus the only automatic movement that has a 40hz beat rate and most accurate one at that.
Though I don't think Longines enters into any discussion about innovation. Swatch hollowed out their R&D department decades ago and, as a brand, they've been looking backwards ever since.
Proud owner of a Citizen CC3001 and GShock 56BB. It feels so good to see Citizen acknowledge while knowing this channel mostlikely isn't dealing with Citizen watches. Solar technology have advanced that indoor light can charge the watch and capacitor has very long duration along with watch power optimization. If there is something more, it will be nicer to introduce satellite wave being the fastest in the world today in getting time as not every location is able to receive radio wave from those stations. I really like Citizen in their continue persue of low maintenance, reliable and precise timekeeper which is basic of a time watch.
Thanks, it brilliantly showcases how traditional watchmaking continues to evolve with modern innovations. From Citizen's solar quartz advancements to Omega's master chronometer standards, the insights are captivating. Sinn's engineering feats and IWC's unique materials further highlight the industry's diversity. Looking forward to more explorations of these groundbreaking brands
My grandfather wore Citizen so I bought two Citizen watches when starting out- one in 2007 when I worked in Tokyo and another when starting a new job in 2014 in Chicago. My in-laws bought me a Frederique Constant as my wedding gift in 2013. I have vivid memories of walking into a store in Bombay and the FC Carree really stood out to me. It's now over 11 years since that day and we lost my MIL a few years ago but that watch reminds me of the affection my in laws have always shown me. My wife then bought me an IWC Portofino when I took a job in Switzerland. I have a small but well used collection and all my watches marked key milestones in my life. Watching this video brought back the memories. Thanks for sharing.
I picked up my Citizen Pro-Master Land for $300 in Japan a few months ago and I still love it. Not only does it have Eco-Drive and hardened titanium but the push-button quick-adjust clasp is outstanding. I’ve always heard Japan saves their best models for themselves and now I believe it.
❤ Agree about Frederique Constant! Citizen also owns Swiss movement maker La Joux-Perret. I assume this helps with FC developing in house calibers either directly or indirectly.
Super interesting, Citizen and FC really blew my mind. FP Journe would also deserve a mention for his movements, although his watches are not in the accessible category.
Great vid Teddy. You checked all the boxes people should be aware of it seems. I didn't know IWC put such efforts into innovation. Never been interested in the brand as to value for $, your vid peaked my interest.
Teddy I haven't checked in in awhile but I gotta say you are really going strong! Outstanding TH-cam content (as usual) and it looks like you're catching right up with - if not close to surpassing - Hodinkee, in the 'real world and regular people" timepiece niche. Keep on ticking Teddy! Great work!
Love my Frederique Constant. Nothing as complex as what was presented here, but is my absolute favorite dress watch. Beautiful piece and good value for money, in my opinion.
What an excellent video. I’ve learned a lot after watching this. Your videos are next level Teddy. You are brilliant at what you do. Keep up the amazing work and the fantastic videos. I really enjoyed this video.
Hi Teddy, thanks for the inspiration. You put Citizen AT watches and Frederique Constant Manufacture Worldtimer and Perpetual Calendar on my "watch list" ....
@@benjamingruen6820 the last 5 years or so theyve had some great releases/rereleases. Big fan of their master collection. The new zulu titanium. Big fan of what they have been doing. Feel like they are consistently slept. But yea not super innovative which is why i just said they deserve a shout out
Such a great topic Teddy, thanks for the video. Another good topic would sort of a history lesson on which brands first came up first with certain innovations.
Specht & Sohne offer a homage to Cartier's Santos model, going back to 1904, that uses a Citizen 'auto' movement with a date window at 6 O'Clock that sells for $125 in a gold plated model. The steel model is only $95.
Agreed, Teddy definitely missed the Ball, both literally in missing that brand, and figuratively by missing bulova and other brands that fly further under the radar even with excellent watches.
I think the point here is that he is mentioning brands that are inovating recently. He mentions that in the beginning, so i think thats why he hasnt mentioned brands that pioneered long ago (sorry if bulova has been implementing new tech recently and i have missed it, i dont follow it very closely)
I completely agree on FC, the one I would add to this list is Baume and Mercier. The big power reserve at a very competitive price, especially compared to similar brands like Oris.
Glad you chose IWC to be a part of the five most innovative watch brands in the 21st century. I had the opportunity and pleasure of trying on the Eternal Calendar at Watches & Wonders. It’s an amazing timepiece!
Another great video from my favourite watch channel - more of the same please! I've had 2 Citizen Eco-power watches, one dated from the early days (I purchased in 1997) and a more recent world time AT which has the atomic clock feature you mentioned. It's absolutely bomb-proof, has traveled with me through Africa, Asia and Europe, never been serviced but still performing as per day one that I owned it. It also has some useful clever features - if you press both pushers simultaneously it switches the 2 time zones - great for regular travelers.
Brilliant. My vote would go to Sinn for the oil and gas filled dials. Though IWC’s work is amazing, its complications distract my eyes/brain. Thanks (as always) for covering a wide range of price points. I especially enjoyed the Omega.
got my 39mm with the white dial on the 3-link "Bader" bracelet watch on MAMACOO 3 weeks ago and am loving it to pieces. Absolute fantastic watch that wears super comfortable on my 6.75 inch wrist. Chose the 3-link over the 5-link bracelet for the toolless quick adjustment. Way more comfortable than my Longines Hydroconquest 41 mm.
Excellent info in this video,Thank You. I dropped out of watch collecting when year after year the market was blah, including the bloated Rolex pricing when much better watches were available for less.👍👋
Hundred percent agree on Frederique Constant - an in-house perpetual calendar for less than $10k! The Citizen group brands (Citizen, Bulova, Frederique Constant, Arnold & Son) and their movement manufacturing arm La Joux-Perret are super underrated. Another great video Teddy!
Personally I think there are 2 swiss brands with great caliber and complications underestimated: 1. Frederique constant 2. Maurice lacroix I love Omega and IWC too, but everyone knows these great brands.
This is an excellent video. Informative, interesting and I always enjoy a nod to the unsung hero. And I agree with your point about omega. They not only recognised the brilliance of the co axial escapement (unlike Patek Philippe who rejected Daniels more than once) but made it a mainstay features in their widely distributed watches for all to enjoy not just the rich and wealthy. Also I can confirm the website is excellent with really good well written informative articles I’d encourage everyone to have a look. Well done and thank you
I’ve had my citizen Skyhawk for about 9 years now. Absolutely love it. It’s cool seeing how it will automatically sync to my local time after not wearing it for several days.
Been a citizen fan since I was young because it was the first "nice" watch my parents bought me. Super reliable and very interesting tech in their own brand and their subrands like bulova and Frederique. Plus citizens dedication to accuracy is really nice to see, their quartz tech is a step above others
Great video, I was thinking if citizen will be on this list. Recently I bought the citizen promaster land 35th anniversary edition. I also have skyhawk watches. Eco-drive technology is nice. But all started when my grandfather gave me one of his watches, a citizen chronomaster. Beautiful watch, and very accurate after decades. Even if I own tough solar watches from casio, I have to admit that citizen is the best in solar watches. 👍👍👍👍
My first 2 watches as a young adult were citizens. 15 watches and 20 yrs later they still are great to wear. Great everyday watches for most occassions
@@danielpintoalmeida7461 Highly recommend. I would look for a used one. About half the price as new. Older ones have 50m WW. Newer, 100m. I like the dial better on the Std. World Time best, but prefer the Highlife case much more.
I have the Frederique Constant Hybrid and its been a great talking point because it looks like a normal time piece but with a smart watch heart that is connected to my Phone .
Picked up a MAMACOO's watch as my first watch last month and I’m absolutely in love with it. Perfect size, looks elegant, very comfortable. Now my only problem is holding off from buying more watches so quickly!
Yes thank you for putting Citizen first. I love that brand. I own two citizen watches and I love them so much. But they always get overshadowed by other affordable watch brands like Seiko and Casio.
Hello again. Speaking of innovations, have you ever considered doing a deep dive on another horological masterpiece, a Geochron? There are mechanical and digital versions. Don’t know if any others would be intrigued by their workings, but they are cool.
I bought the first iteration of the FC Slimline Monolithic model about two years ago. Within three weeks of receiving the watch, I noticed accuracy issues and problems with the crown, including difficulties in winding and setting the date. I sent it back to the manufacture for a full inspection and possible repairs. A year later, after they installed a new movement and conducted multiple failed internal inspections, FC customer service informed me they couldn’t resolve the issue. They offered to replace the watch with a different model, but it took an additional four months of follow-ups before I finally received the replacement. Long story short..excruciating experience.
Frederique Constant kills it with its calibers and pricepoint. Finnaly someone talks about their 40hz movement.
I've been saying for a while that Frederique Constant are producing some amazing watches recently, their worldtimer especially is stunning
And so is their Moon Phase watch.
The sweep of the FC-810 seconds hand is simply glorious
FC are amazing
Loving the frequency of new quality content, thanks Teddy!
Citizen, bulova, and FC have been knocking it out of the park lately. Even every longines release is good
Yes, Bulova and Frederique Constant are both owned by Citizen.
Great video! I've always loved Citizen's Eco-Drive but I had no Idea that Citizen owned FC! Thanks for sharing.
That’s exactly what I thought. I was shocked to hear that. With such a big company behind FC, I would actually consider buying one.
Good to see Frederique Constant get some recognition!

Frederique Constant is severely underrated! I love their world timer.

Bought my brother a Frederique Constant slimline watch for his wedding (quartz because he's not a watch guy). He loved it! The brand is under-rated.
Just got that piece and I’m really satisfied with the purchase as well!!!
Love this type of video. Very interesting and informative. Keep 'em coming!
Nice mention of Citizen, well deserved.
Super interesting, Citizen and FC really blew my mind. FP Journe would also deserve a mention for his movements, although his watches are not in the accessible category.
Awesome video Teddy. I learned a lot. More please.
I have a Citizen eco-drive in titanium for like 10 years with perpetual calendar which I love, rock solid still looks like new 🙌🏻
Loved this video, Teddy! Please make another.
Teddy, I really enjoyed this video and your explanation of the innovations, thank you!
Great stuff. Teddy is a true ambassador for the watch world. Quality and style!
Great vid Teddy. You checked all the boxes people should be aware of it seems. I didn't know IWC put such efforts into innovation. Never been interested in the brand as to value for $, your vid peaked my interest.
Their lack of value to money in their general product lines seems to be one of the most ignored topics in all the YT mentions of IWC I swear
Very informative. Thank you for sharing. I've learned a lot❤
This is top notch content and delivery! You do a great job of educating us! Keep up the great work!

Such an enjoyable, informative and quick-fire gathering. Well done Teddy👍
FC has been crushing it. Citizen is such an insane brand. I just purchased a 1967 Chrono Master and it was way ahead of its time.
Very nice content! I think Ball has a couple innovations I have not seen before such as their tide indicator watch.

Great video, Teddy! ‘Would have loved to have a segment about Rado’s amazing use of ceramics and other scratch resistant materials.
Great presentation. Please do more content like this format.
Bulova? First electronic watch, first electrostatic movement, precisionist movement, first curved chronograph…
Owned by citizen group
True, but so is FC; and Bulova introduced most of their innovations before Citizen purchased them.

Great video! Can you do a high end luxury version of this
I hope frederique constant never catches on with watch collectors i want one some day haha
Likewise! Let the mouthbreathers keep trading dull Rolexes.
Accutron!!!! Electro static movement, arguably the craziest/coolest innovation since the original Bulova tuning fork or Seiko spring drive.
Love FC great to see them getting some attention. 👍
Love my Citizen Watches. I have a Radio Controlled one and it's great.
Great video, wonderful to know all these fascinating facts!
