You will never outsmart the market unless you are the market. I recall buying my wife a Hyundai Accent for a set price. We were happy with the price. The three months later the price on the very same model and trim level dropped about $2000. We had already bought the car and there was no way the dealer was going to fork over the difference. So I learned that when you buy something like a camera just deal with it. There could be sales incentives days or weeks later to help sell a slow moving camera that the dealer won't know about. The same can be said about price increases. You could buy a product for a given price then three months after you buy you notice the exact same product has increased in price by 10 to 15% then your glad you bought when you did. Then you could be ready to buy and decide to wait because you gotta replace the air conditioner/heater in your home. Then when you want to buy after than expensive replacement the product you wanted was discontinued and is not longer available unless you buy used from eBay.
I have owned the R3 since it launched and made loads of videos on it as I love it ... Hope Canon updates the firmware over the coming years so it competes as when the R1 comes out it will be joining my R3
I don't shoot Canon but had a quick look at the R3 and was impressed by its ergonomics, build and surprisingly light weight. I only wish Canon had upgraded its 32-meg cropped sensor, installed it in this camera, after improving its rolling shutter performance, and released it as an upgraded version of the R7. With the R1 coming out it will be interesting to see if Canon redefines the mission of the R3. It seems like the current R6 Mk2 and the R1 will be crowding the R3's reasons for being but it is an impressive camera.
If you produce quality videos for example for wedding then you can charge more and that amount is easy to have back even with 1 wedding if you’re at that level.
Canon has been offering eye control AF features since the ELAN series film cameras. They don't offer it on every pro body, but it keeps popping up here and there.
quite an interesting video. i don't think i'll ever need a r3 or up coming r1 for shooting candids of my children. Just upgraded from the r6 to the r6mk2 and the focus tracking is a huge improvement. but never say never, maybe one day! (what an overkill, r3 for family photos, heh)
Hey Joel, thanks for making this video! I’m considering the R3 now with the price decreases (probably because the R1 is inbound.) Questions for ya: How’s filming in standard color profiles where you’re restricted to 4:2:0 8 bit color? Does that bug you? When you film weddings, do you shoot with auto ISO on the R3 and lock your aperture and shutter? Finally, on shutter speeds for 24P, 30P, 60P, etc, are there enough options for you in video mode? Like 1/50, 1/60, 1/120, etc?
I usually shoot everything in 4k Clog3 so the standard color profiles being capped at 8 bit doesn't bug me much. When I'm shooting weddings I usually do end up changing settings manually, I've gotten pretty fast and I don't trust the auto ISO in all cases so I'd rather just do it myself. And yes in video mode it has pretty much all the shutter options I need for how I shoot.
I liked the video, I bought my R3 for 4k….no regrets…..I am actually buying a 2nd…..I don’t see the need to upgrade like a phone every 4 years…….the canon 5d mark iii is still a great camera….i think as long as you have cf express it doesn’t matter, bandh had a sale for a 512g card for $140….and 1 it’s really all you need to get by with in my opinion….i would actually buy 2-3 if your doing weddings to back it up….but I’m a wildlife shooter and the camera is fast and I love it….
Why do you buy a high speed sports camera .... when you seem to shoot weddings ????!!!! or something similar !!! I bet the R3 is overkill for you !!!! Just my thoughts Cheers Andreas
Hey thanks for the comment, although I shoot many weddings. I also shoot landscapes, sports, and concerts every now and then as well so I wanted a camera that could do it all and the R3 can definitely do it all.
I agree, this camera is definitely geared towards more fast paced styles of shooting such as sports and wildlife but it’s also very versatile able to do it all including portraits and weddings.
🚨DISCLAIMER: This video was recorded in 2023. The price of the R3 has since dropped
R6... or R3?

Agree he just used a bait and switch he seems to actually love it like I love my 2
I Love my R3. Don't get tricked by the R1 release with its slightly better specs

I agree. Cameras can be an investment into your business!

The Elan is the last I remember, when has it popped up since?

Just sell it and it's only a $500 mistake.
Wow I can get a new R3 in the UK for £3770 today. 28 Jan 2024.
Is this a good camera to record my boxing content?
Yes it’s very good for fast paced styles like for sports and wildlife.
It’s a good camera but it isn’t worth $6,000.00. It’s worth about $4,500.00.
At the time of this recording it was a lot more, it has gone down in value a good amount since then
Off course!!! Throw it away get A1 or A9Iii
It’s only $4500 at mikes camera now
