Just pre-ordered my R6II Brandon. I have never been more solidified in my decision to stick with Canon. They have been absolutely crushing it lately. Glad to see you like the R3. Hopefully I can work my way up to one but my big spend was the C70.

I love my R3. Had it for less than a week, and I absolutely love using it. I've been using the 1Dx series for the past couple years, and shoot 99% sports, and I don't shoot video. Love the battery life, integrated battery grip and the overall feel. It's lighter than my 1Dx-II, but it's so much more capable. It was painful to drop the cash for it, and had to sell one of my camera bodies and my cherished 300 2.8, but it's such an amazing camera, I'm glad I got it.

With the underwhelming release of the R1, Im now considering the R3. I was holding out for the “flagship” - the R3 looks like a great value now.

I was shooting with the C70 and R5 for about a year and when the R5C came out I was supper excited. However when using a camera as a photo camera I love having IBIS. And especially with such high megapixel sensor. Also the battery issues were of concern.
Finally I got the R3 back in June 22 and couldn't be happier.
DR in video is so much better than the R5. I love every aspect of the camera.

    • @cwinasia

How the DR feel? More like the c70 ( I have a c200 and these are quite similar image wise). I've been using an R5 and love the FF but wish the video file was more pliable in post so have been looking at this camera

Was wondering why the colors looked so off.
You really need to set up a color managed workflow (C-Log 2/C-Log 3) to Rec709 conversion at the end of the row and do your adjustments above that so you have full access of the RAW/Log data while having a proper Rec709 conversion at the end.

I feel you! My local store lend it to me for 3 days… and omg 😱, I never used a camera like this before and I own the R5C and a few A7s3 which are fantastic by the way. But, for me Sony feels like kids cameras and Canon line up is always short on Something here and there. R3 is in another level. 4K 120p overheating happens in 5 min though.

  • @pixl8
    @pixl8 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I have this camera and love it. However it is frustrating to see the lack of video menu like the R5C.
Also the R6ii and R7 have features that it doesn't have like pre roll. The R5 and R6ii have raw output via HDMI.
It seems to be in a strange place. When you hit record you lose rgb parade, it would be nice to have false colour like the cheaper r6ii.
Anyway, it is still a beast and i endeavor to work around those small quirks. The R3 possibilities are immense and outweigh the strange quirks.
Canon gonna Canon. Nice review, really like your work.

Very reliable do everything camera. Also over-samples 1080p and the image is amazing!!!! You can also do 240fps 1080p and the image is decent!

I look at my tradie mates and what they have spent on tools, if you work professionally this is your tool. I have somewhere around $35k of camera gear built up over years, most of my tradie mates would have similar or more value in tools and trailers etc. it maybe an expensive camera but if you aren’t doing it professionally there are other options, same with tradie tools.

Lovely image, easy to switch between stills and video… killer battery life. The only thinks it is missing is full sensor height recording. Man, I’ve been saying this for a minute too. Depending on where you’re at in the EF -> RF transition, the 1DX mark iii and the R3 (although they’re different technically they produce virtually the same results in practicality), are the best hybrid cameras canon makes and possibly on the market regardless of brand.
In owning a C300 mark iii I’m hanging onto EF lenses for at least another couple years, as well as my 1DX mark iii. But if you’ve made the jump to owning some RF lenses already, the R3 is the best all arounder that canon makes.

    • @daniellove162
      @daniellove162 ปีที่แล้ว +1

My experience with my R5 and old EF lenses is that the new RF cameras make EF lenses a step better. They perform a little faster.

I feel this strange sense of having the A7SIII for the most solid video camera I’ve personally ever had, (I even came back to it from an A7IV), but the lack of megapickles for photo still bums me out. The A7RV might be that magic middle for me, because the A1 seems unattainable. But now I’m also thinking the R6MkII is looking like a solid beast of a hybrid. The XH-2S is also solid. 12MP is good for web, but much beyond that and it doesn’t cut it anymore.

This past week I was in NYC during the marathon and the R3 knocked it out of the park for me. Went through 2 batteries tops. I too coming from the 1dx series this camera just made sense for me and inspired me to go out and create. Brandon, Thank you for that perspective and wonderful video. I didn't think that "Creative Inspiration" was a "thing". I had believed that it was just me. I purchased my beloved R6 last year as a means of getting back into the photography after some 35 years. Admittedly, I purchased a T2i as my first foray into digital but it didn't necessarily inspire me (that was mostly learning post despite my being a IT professional and very comfortable with tech). The R6 was different. Purchased a year ago, I cannot wait until my next adventure with it. It has allowed me to pretty much pick up from where I left off all those many years ago. It has even inspired me to overcome my post processing angst and compel me to advance my skills in that area. In the next year, I'll take on video. Knowing that the R6 and the forthcoming R6MkII is up to the task is reassuring. The adventure continues! Subbed.

Beyond being capable on paper, Canon got the usability *so right*. It's a joy to use and truly an extension of myself.

Except you can't enjoy the art without the tool. So although you might have an interest, the tool has to come first to know for sure.

You should definitely use the 6k on the R3 because it won’t have much noise at all since it’s using every single photo site on the video crop of the sensor. If you switch to 4K you’re creating unnecessary noise by losing the photo sites. In post you just downsample the 6k to 4K and it will look much better than 4K alone on a bigger screen

OK. Third C got me. Thank you for that.
Been sitting here asking myself what kind of fool buys a camera for that much - even with 1300 discount path - even though it prowls in the domains I'm trying to conquer. I guess every 8 years or so I'm going to pick up a new " toy" in search of taking that action shot to the next level.

@@krane15 It's not suppose to overheat that quickly, it turned out that I had a defective R3 and mailed it to Canon service repair so they can send me a new one that doesn't overheat so quickly

GOSH!!!!!! See this is why I wish I had tons of money. I have the R6 and for shooting videos and doing photos, I can have one dedicated for each. I know people say "Its not the camera, its the person with the camera that makes the difference" Not in this case with this camera lol.

R3 could be my next camera :) but now right now.. R1 should soon be annonced.. it would be nice to se what they have to price that one at...
But the R3 is crazy good. For me it would help me because of the Flicker adapting abillity and the battery life, weather sealing and the faster readout speed to eliminate rolling shutter.
It would fall in between that spot where my other cameras lack. The price is not really the problem, but that the mp. count is lower than my old Eos R camera... (I know it doesent really matter since the c70 is only like 8 or 9 Mp 😄 but still... thats sometimes just how the brain thinks

A lot more than the R3. Then again it will be the flagship with higher performance capabilities. I suspect another 2 grand or so -- $7,999.

    Great video!
The last C is where it got me.
I felt the same way when I upgraded from my Canon 7D2 to my R6 last year. The R6 renewed the love I had for photography. Sure, the 7D2 was a fine camera, but for whatever reason, I felt as creative as vanilla pudding when I was behind it. I'm shooting a lot more and really enjoying my time with it.

As a full time content creator the most important criteria for me is whether the “tool” can make me profit. While the specs and capability might be excellent, is the tool helping me make money or is the tool the latest and greatest new toy? As a professional, I understand that camera body has a typical lifespan of 3 years (lifespan meaning retaining its value and specs that are not technologically outdated). With that in mind, if the new camera/tool cannot generate at least four times the amount that I paid for it in total revenue, it’s not an investment worth purchasing. It’s a new toy. New toys are nice, new features are great, but the only way I purchase a depreciating asset is if I can monetize that asset to generate a profit. I don’t care what the specs and functionality are….my first question is as follows: “with this purchase can I generate at least four times the amount in revenue within a two year period (before this camera decreases sharply in value by year three?). If the answer is “no” then I do not make the purchase. My clients pay for my gear and my gear pays for my profit.
