    i also think that the reason why second hand shopping has increased so much is because people have started seeing thrifting itself as a trend- sure, it helps to reuse old clothing, but its the mindset that needs to be shifted too. buying second hand and reselling/ throwing them away without using is such a big issue too

    Great video, I learned a lot! I used to work in search engine marketing automation, and wanted to mention that paying Google for your product to appear when someone searches for a competitor product is common practice. Most major respectable companies are doing it. The reason Doc Martens have a case against Temu is that Temu is selling a counterfeit product and claiming that it’s the real product. I hope they win the lawsuit.

      this makes so much sense... as a consumer, google sucks these days. I'll search for something really specific and all that comes up is the same big fast fashion brands. Takes a lot of energy to filter through the crap! Thank you for sharing

      I read an article some time ago and have been adhering to their advice ever since (because it’s great)
      “Buy essentials and basics in a quality that can basically be composted after use and everything fashionable secondhand or if not available secondhand in a quality that can easily be resold if your taste changes”

    • @Garsnoos
      @Garsnoos 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      It's a bit more difficult than that. Clothing is quite bad quality these days, especially the cheaper brands and the prices of second hand clothing have gone up because they are so popular. I'd say buy only what you need and make sure it's great quality so that it lasts a long time. Second hand stores are more difficult because you cannot order online, you may not have any second hand stores close by and the size offering is random. So be conscious when you buy but it's okay if it's new. But ofc if you can buy second hand, do it

    As someone who is guilty of weekly Zara and H&M online orders of clothing that I would wear a couple of time or it would sit in my closet unworn with tags, I purged and donated bags of clothing and stopped . I had to stop, it is cheap clothing that pills or snags and I realized what I was doing was irresponsible. wasteful and selfish.

      Linen is better than cotton. Grows in less ideal soil is an easy to grow and needs less water. It also holds onto less 70% less bacteria than cotton. People just have gotten used to not pressing their clothes and hate wrinkles now so they won't buy it. It's ridiculous

    Even with AI it doesn’t eliminate human error. Many sellers don’t tag their listings at all. Additionally many sellers don’t properly list the brand or have accurate descriptions. The idea is interesting but until sellers are willing to put the time and effort into properly identifying their products this won’t have much effect.

    • @sarah28288
      @sarah28288 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      think the AI will be able to recognize the clothes as something taylor would wear without the seller writing it. That would be the whole idea :)

      generally, sellers rely heavily on keywords and SEO. I don't think this practice will be too hard to adopt for others (I say this as someone who makes listings lol). just insure people who do the listings have the right tasks

    • @Jusstaaahumman
      @Jusstaaahumman 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@запрещнка I absolutely get what you’re saying. I also sell online. But you’ll always find those sellers who title their listing as “hat” when it’s in fact branded with distinguishing features. I definitely add a lot of detail to my listing title, description and tags. But I buy a lot online and the struggle to sort through everything isn’t due to the search engines. It’s the sellers not accurately listing their items. I’m in Canada so it’s possible the platforms I’m on are different from those other ppl are referring to.

    "Shouldn't Zara be certifying its own cotton?" No! That would be awful. We can't trust the companies to certify their own products. That's why a 3rd party certifications are regarded so highly. They are supposed to be impartial. Better cotton obviously failed as a 3rd party. But that is not an argument against demanding a 3rd party certificate from companies. It is the bare minimum and absolutely essential.

    About Zara relying on third parties: Many BCORP brands in other industries also rely on third parties for certification. There is a possibility that they are simply not in the sourcing business, and rather into clothes manufacturing.

    • @katierobinson

      @@katierobinsonworking in govt some time ago, even a western govt....ive seen how smaller companies lie and act chummy to win large contracts off these business giants. In my observation the ppl approving the contracts are USUALLY the types who love the sycophantic behaviour and lap it up...or at the very least just overworked employees who dont keep an eye on the contractors continuing work ethics (i dont think its their job per se to do that, but unfortunately thats the way things are). Therefore ive never trusted these "authentication businesses/organisations". Sorry, i know im a bit cynical.

    I love your content, thank you for delivering informative content in an interesting way (love the title of this segment).
    As someone who works in marketing and who’s parents owned a food producing business, the certifications (organic, ethical, clean etc) are mostly for the consumer to build trust and to help introduce the product to a different market. I’m always very wary of certifications, they’re more for show than a real marker of anything.
    Google ads, especially google shopping ads are commonplace. It’s cheeky and not best practice but competitors have and do use brand keywords to help their products appear over competitors, especially competitors with strong brand resonance and salience.

    The story about clothing sold by the supermarkets is needed. Not surprised by the growth but I am surprised that children's wear is not higher than womens wear. Parents always have to buy for changing bodies and a lot of parents like their children to follow trends as well provide costumes for everyday wear. Last week I saw matching mother and daughter summer dresses and babygrows in Tu.

They pushed the apparel brand through one of the largest grocery chains in Canada (Loblaws) .
