- Rain World: Downpour is out, which means there's now 5 new slugcats to play as through new stories. I decided to start off with Gourmand, the chonky slugcat. Gourmand needs to eat a lot but can body slam creatures along with some other abilities. However, just like with the other slugcats, this journey will not be easy...

i love gourmands ending because its such a slap in the face to the Ancients. gourmand is just chillin like "hey ancients, maybe if you just enjoyed life a little you wouldnt be so obsessed with killing yourself" and i love that for him
ironically, even though the ancients were much more advanced than slug-cat-kind could ever hope to be, just going "lmao I'm here and having fun" is a much better solution for living forever than anything them or their creations ever came up with.

You get a different ending if you eat all of the foods that show up above your hunger bar. It’s called the ‘food quest’ and it is definitely worth it for the extra lore & such, plus more chonker gameplay.
Fun fact: after beating gorumand, you can go back to survivor and monk and bring them to the tree as well. Survivor is the first to arrive there, and by the time Monk gets there, survivor has two slugpups with them. It's adorable!!!
Monk is gone for so long that Survivor had kids like "dang weren't you supposed to rescue me or smth?"

The ending where the slugcat makes friends with all of the other slugcats becomes availabe to regular slugcat and monk after you beat gourmand. So you can get that ending with a bunch of slugcats.
Sort of. The slugcats all left after gourmand finished his journey (hence why survivor fell down a hole, they were migrating to the new lands) so the tree is abandoned. Still, it's a relatively happy ending since at least you get to go home. Not sure what happens if you go to the tree as monk after survivor gets there, though. I think I'll try it
@@catpoke9557 i do not have the faintest idea of what the world looks like (I struggle to get further than 3 zones away from the starting zones) but I had no idea the games endings were this... complicated in a good way (there is a better word for it)
@@catpoke9557 and if you happen to find a slug pup and it stays alive when you find thd tree and go home you get a ending where the slug pup goes to the tree with you!
@@Milkway1021 Yes! It's so cute. I also found out what happens when monk goes to survivor, and it does indeed make the ending even happier.
Honestly that’s the only happy ending in this game: Gourmand, Survivor, and Monk get to go back home (even if all the other slugcats left after gourmand got back)
33:28 Green lizards are slowest and least likely to attack. However they have the second biggest health pool right after reds and their jaw strenght is equal. Out of all lizards, green lizard is the most likely one to win against red in 1v1 scenario.
Also they take less damage from red bites. This makes them incredible allies for fighting reds.
@@eeveeisepic1803 not really less. They actually take literally 0 damage from Red and Murder Grass. Green and Caramel is pretty strong

Supposedly, when lizards fight 5 they do weaker territorial bites instead of their normal damage. Except for green lizards. They do their normal damage bites.
imagine being a pink lizard, just going about your day, looking for squidcadas to munch on and all that fun stuff, when you walk past a pole and suddenly hear a distant voice from overhead rapidly getting louder as it yells "FROM THE TOP ROPES" and before you have a chance to react your spine is instantly reduced to a paste under three hundred pounds of slugfat

I love how happy the other slugcats get when they see gourmand has returned. They're so sweet
That and the extra scenes if you complete the food quest actually suggest that gourmand is basically the chieftain of the slugcat tribe

We need to tell Skurry that completing the food quest for Gourmand unlocks something very very important and cute!
from what i understand both moon and 5p sit ontop a massive and solid foundation that was built to avoid erosion from the heavy rains (i assume every iterator has a foundation). said foundation has karma gates all around it for transport, which 5p closed off at some point. you can see a top-down map at 30:32 showing both moon's and 5p's cans in white, the round foundation, and the red marked area outside of it.
38:25 i theorize that in the past the foundation was roughly level with the outside area, but due to time and rain it eroded down so now the foundation stands as a massive plateau.
alsoi can't wait to see skurries reaction to the other slugcats, including the secret one >;)
You also see the perimeter wall (and comm tower/chimney, exterior, etc.) from top of the scenic tree. Which... I think my favorite vista is still top of the wall, but that one's a close, close 2nd. So good.

Survivor - vanilla
Monk - banana
Hunter - strawberry (and cancer)
Artificer - cherry
Gourmand - salad
Rivulet - blueberry (some people said fish but they are wrong)
Spearmaster - grape
Saint - mint
??? - anesthesia
No, Rivulet's flavor is Ruffles (a potato chip brand, if you are in a part of the world without them).

Id say artificer is specifically black cherry, gourmand is caramel because he’s a similar color to caramel lizards, and rivulet tastes like water (because they are so wet all flavor is washed out)

I think Rivulet should be blueberry and Inv should be blue raspberry bcuz they're bluish and also blue raspberries don't actually exist, like how Inv is not canon.

18:00 all shelters have a low chance of failing, where you essentially wake up halfway through the night and have to deal with what comes next. I don't think this is downpour specific but I'm not sure.
Edit: shelter failure was added with Downpour, but happens with any slugcat besides saint.

I like how at the end the Gourmand lies to the village about being able to craft with spears.
Finding the hunter slugcat in gourmond’s play through is arguably one of the saddest moments in rain world

It's honestly amazing writing that shows that wisdom has many different forms and it doesn't necessarily correlate to how intelligent you are in a field. Wisdom comes from experience and in gourmands case, taking a step back from life's complications and take a moment to relax helps us find the peace we are looking for.

I have absolutely no idea what's going on in this game, but I love it every time
You need to do the "perfect" ending for gourmand, where he eats all the different kinds of food. It lets you get slugpups showing up across the different campaigns to fight alongside you and stuff, and theres also additional stuff to the ending if you do it.
So, lemme just get this straight ... you can now play as a chonky boi with the power to bellyflop onto lizards and break their necks and/or spines in one blow? Sign me the hell up!
Maybe you learned this by now, but his slide and apparently his roll also deal damage like his body slam, his roll also deflects spears, when he's not tired his spear throw deals 3x damage, and you can craft nuclear bombs as well.

I think that Survivor is Apple flavor because both are basic and original. Monk is tangerine flavored because its sweet, and a citrus like monk's color. Hunter is blood flavored because... It is hunter. Gourmand is Watermelon covered in chocolate (cursed) flavored because both are big, round, CHUMK AND DIEBETES. Rivulet is strawberry flavored because both are chaotic and sweet. Spearmaster is a mix between pineapple and plum flavors because the plum is purple and the pineapple is tangy and sharp. Saint is chocolate because saint is calm and easy and chocolate is calm and easy.
Edit: saint is green apple.
26:43 is very much an old thing, and a hard lesson you only had to learn once. The orange lizard room at the wall is not as safe from the rain as you think because the shaking stops you from finishing that parkour section. Your only way is down, into the deadly rain.
It takes a lot of tries and some tricky boosting (try boosting upward on the pole just shy of the top, then jump off the tip) but it can be made. Even more attempts to cross the horizontal pole without falling off.
The rip is if you're carrying anything, it's... I don't think it's impossible, but it's unlikely as hell at least, like one in thousands. I got caught there once, carrying neuron flies, so, going up empty-handed was pointless.
No way this was already a year ago! WOW! I remember watching this when it came out!
By the way, if you play with survivor and monk, you can now make it to outer expanse for a new ending
