  • This DIY Bait keeper clip modification will help keep your soft plastic baits from sliding down the shank and balling up over your hook point. Its not the most durable clip, however its a simple little trick that gets easier to make with practice, but does decent job of minimizing lost fish.

Thanks James! I still have a few HP hooks in the arsenal. Problem is they are pre-Trokar Eagle Claw hooks that are not very sharp. This is a great tip to get the clip benefit on your favorite hooks. Just found your channel. Keep up the great work :-)

This is a great DIY tip for all Elaztech baits that slide down the EWG. Thanks James! I'll try this on my 6" swimbaits to keep my plastics in place.

James, i live in South Africa and just stumbled onto your channel by accident with my gr 11 boys. We love bass fishing and rhis video was SO interesting i subscribed immediately. Can i ask you if you can make a video showing us how to make a wire baitkeeper that we can attach to a weighted hook. The dams we fish has tons of grass in them so we want new ways to fish. Weighted texas rigs doesn't always solve the problem and i thought the baitkeeper from a frog hook on a weighted hook will solve the issue. The weights on the weighted hooks tare the soft plastic baits so we need help.

James, I enjoy watching you on tv and on your channel, you’re one of my guys! Maybe this ones on me, but I couldn’t see at all what you were doing here in the video... Sounds like a great hack though!

CA thank you...appreciate the kind words. Sorry to hear that, may have to do a 2nd version close up with just the wire application. Thank you for letting me know.

Great idea but far too much work. A #4 barrel swivel does the same thing (I prefer welded/solid ring b/c old school wire wrap swivels cling to grass) . Simply slide it on line BEFORE tying hook. Thread nose of bait on hook, then thread hook point through the remaining open eye of barrel, then thread body of bait onto hook. TH-cam 'Texas Riggin with Parasite Clips' for an example. 10/10 for saving money and catching 10x's amount of fish per bait.

Adam Clemens I’ve tried that approach however the problems I see with that method is how visually unattractive it is, as well as the ability for it to pick up weeds and muck. If simplicity was the goal then that’s it hands down. I am glad you’ve found something that works well for you. 👍
