Thanks so much for this video, I stopped using my Gemini because the plates got so wrapped after a very short time and I was not going to pay for new plates every few of months, so I was so excited finding your video, and now I have tried it and it works perfectly so thanks again x
This is a TERRIFIC IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not just to replace the Gemini cutting plates (I too have bought a few extras because I've been so frustrated with how fast one warps), but also that this self-healing mat replaces the PLASTIC SHIM which warps even worse than the cutting plates no matter that I turn it around and over each time. I was looking for a material to replace it and you've done it. God bless YOU!!! I am THRILLED and will be sending links of this TH-cam video to all of my crafty friends. Yay, you've solved my Gemini issue, how grateful am I to you!!! What an ingenious solution, I am beyond impressed!!!!!!!!!! Thank you again from Ontario, Canada!!! Joanne
I had virtually given up using mine, but you have totally inspired me to use it again, because now I can get some good cuts without having to poke the bits out for ages. Well done - and cutting mats can be found cheaply in lots of bargain stores.
All I can say is THANK YOU for sharing not just your tip but the video on how to do it. Amazing cut ,now you can use the positive and the negative of that die. Total game changer.
I can't thank you enough for this tip I bought this machine 245 dollars Canadian and I couldn't get it to cut anything and to expensive postage wise to send back I had to change the sandwich a little bit but works amazing THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
Thank you for a wonderful idea. I just got my Gemini on 820/2018. I must have used my plates incorrectly. I put the paper on the magnetic sheet, then the die and top plate. Now my magnetic plate is a mess. I didn’t realize that the die should cut into the top plate. Guess I need to buy a new magnetic plate. I appreciate the information on using the no cut sheet! It’s a grand idea!
O MY GOD I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE OUT THERE ...LOL I BOUGHT THE JR ON IT'S LAUNCH AT HSN & ONLY USED IT THT ONE DAY , I. CUT RT THROUGH MY MAGNETIC SHIM & PUT ALL DENTS & IMPRINTS ON THE TOP PLATE.... & I'VE TRIED TO BUY NEW ONES BUT THEY R ALWAYS SOLD OUT .... I LOVE CRAFTING BUT DIE CUTTING IS NEW TO ME .... I LOVE CC BUT I'VE BEEN EYEIN THE CRICUT FOR IT HAS OPTIONS I WANT. I WATCH HSN TOO MUCH & BUY EVERYTHING THERE NOW , BUT THANK U ... THIS VIDEO IS A GREAT SOLUTION TO AT LEAST PART OF WHT I NEED CAN'T WAIT TO WATCH MORE OF HERS & OTHER'S OUT THERE .... FOR I DID
I am a 'beginner' with the Gemini and to papercrafting. I am SO happy to view this video. Your idea is so creative and helpful! Thank you for posting. Blessings
Thanks for posting this. After seeing this I brought two in both sizes to use with my Cricut and Gemini. It really got a workout between Thanksgiving and now. I purchased to size and found them to go through smoothly. I especially like that I no longer hear that crackling sound. Its like once you find a good combination for your dies, you can repeatedly use it. I've run through both machines over 100 times and it looks just slightly used, so definitely holds up better than the Cricut and Gemini clear plates. Also, I say don't throw away that heavy mailing folder that HSN packages their dies in. If you cut it open and cut it down slightly you will have 2 shims that will work very well with the self healing mat.
I just bought a second hand Gemini and after pricing the plates, I am thrilled to see your video, I've trie out the self healing cutting mat and love the effect. I have been using them in my Big Shot too. Thank you.
I love this!! I cut up one of my old self-healing mats. Made for my Big Shot, regular and the extended size. It was a thin mat, so I use one plastic plate and two layers of the cutting mat. I put one under the for and cardstock, and one over. My dies do not bend or warp and they are automatically embossed as well as cut out. I found I need to rotate them when doing a lot of cutting so the mats have time to "heal". I rotated my plastic plates all the time but after awhile everything was getting stuck in the old cut marks. Not clear yet how long these mats will last, but the do a much better job of they last no longer and are cheaper😅. Thank you for such a great idea!
Hello thanks for the useful info on cutting plate s I have used my grand callber plates & they are much better as they don't get any Walping and awill invest in a new set. .
I love this idea! I've had my Gemini a couple of months (did a lot of Christmas crafting with it) and I just had the cutting plate crack really badly. I was also so disappointed that the paper that wasn't cut got embossed with the lines from previous cuts. I'm so excited that you have provided a great solution to both problems! Thank you so much!
Your video just popped up on my feed. I think if this works, you'll win the prize for hack of the century!! Thank you for sharing this, I'll have to give it a try! Hugs-Raquel
tyvm for this video. you would think in our era that scientist could make a plate that doesnt get hurt. but then came you with your healing mat. tyvm great video. be safe and blessed
My first time using my new Gemini and I thought I ruined my plates. I was looking for a few replacements after my first use and found this youtube video. Thank you.
I tried that combo in my Gemini and it creased the paper and the magnetic mat. I tried cutting plate, self heal cutting mat and cutting plate and it worked perfectly
You are brilliant! Thank you so much....saving money is great, but even better is that it cuts those intricate dies so much better...cleaner! LOVE! LOVE! LOVE IT!
hi I've just bought a self-healing mat cost me £3 pounds tryed it on my gemini sandwich clear plate self-healing mat die card then clear plate it works a treat thanks who ever put this on u tube great
Great idea... I just ordered my Gemini. Then I watched some youTube videos and began to worry about warping plates and poor cutting. I have a big shot and I love it. But, I have a shoulder injury and need an alternative to cranking for my dies. I really like your idea about the self healing mats. I am definitely going to try it. Thanks for sharing your great idea!
Thank you so much, I just got a die cutter, and the black plate is really marked up. I will give the cutting mat a try. Have a wonderful day. And will pass your video on to other crafters.🦩🐬🌈
This is such a good idea. Going to purchase a self healing mat today. I have the big Gemini and the plates are so warped they hardly go through the machine. My awesome children bought me the junior for Christmas and I want to try this before those new plates get warped. Thanks for the tip!!
Saw this video last week and went out next day for the small OLFA mat.....it works perfectly, and I only paid a little more than $3 for it with a coupon. THANK YOU for this!
I'm definitely going to try that. I've only had my Gemini for a few months and I am so frustrated. My plates are so warped that I can barely feed them into the machine, and it is no longer cutting intricate dies. Much appreciated!
Hello Crafty Lifestyle, I can"t stop thanking you for making this video. Well I went to walmart a brought the 24'' x 36 fiskars self healing mat. Like most crafters I have several die cutting machines, So I started with the smallest one first. The diamond press I love it, but those clear folders are a mess. I cut the healing mat and a one piece of acetate the same size as the original folder. put clear tape on the one end to resemble the folder. It also made it easier to pass through machine. The healing mat bottom acetate top, ( I seem to like working with my dies facing down) Anna Griffin"s mini sandwhich is plate A+healing mat+paper+ die+ plateB or 2 pieces of healing mat+ plate C. The mini plates are very durable the plates still became etched and well transfer.
For the diamond press was this your stack: Healing Mat + thin die + card stock + acetate?? Just got one so I'm willing to try anything cheaper than re-buying folders! :)
Oh my goodness! Awesome!!! I’m picking up my Gemini tomorrow and I’m so thankful for this tip! I love saving money and keeping my tools looking nice! TFS!!!
Thanks so much for this brilliant idea.I just bought the Gemini jr yesterday, started using it and the plates are getting warped already,so I’ll have to try this for sure.
What a fabulous idea! Thank you. I guess i should try with my other die cutting machines as well. Not only is it saving money, but the self healing mat won’t leave impressions like the over-used cutting plates can. Brilliant!
Thank you Thank you! I just got the Gemini and really didn’t want to have to be replacing cutting plates every few months or whatever. God bless you! Thank you for sharing
Thank you so much for this tip, I have the Gemini and have been very disappointed with the plates, even if it cuts the die out, it embosses all of those lines from the cutting plates onto the cardstock.. the machine is great, but you'd think their cutting plates would be a better quality, as much as it costs!
I had to keep replacing the cutting paltes, which is the only complaint I have got about my Gemini. The cost adds up quickly. Thank you so much for posting this video! I will try this soon!
You need to watch Sara Davies video on understanding pressure of the Gemini. You ran the die through the die cutter the wrong way. Your suppose to run the die through where there is least amount of pressure points that goes through the rollers. That would be the shortest side of the die being the top of the rectangle and not the widest point of the rectangle. I have tried a self healing mat but I'm not sold on that idea. You can easily straighten out your cutting plate by putting them on a cookie sheet pan with sides. Pour boiling water over it and put something heavy on top of the plate. Wait for the plate to cool down before you lift the weight off the cutting plate. Works like a charm.
Great tip!! Thanks so much. The plates, in my opinion need to be replaced with something else. As you mentioned they leave an impression on your card stock from previous uses. Looks tacky. This is Genius!!
I have one of those mats and just bought new cutting plates for my Gemini Jr. , I love, love, love this and will be using it !! Thanks so much for saving us ALL the cost of buying new cutting mats over and over !
You mention the 'marks' the cutting plate leaves on your paper. I think this is a big problem with this machine and I think it's due to its tremendous pressure. It's not just the clear cutting plates that leave behind marks after a while, but I have the same problem with the magnetic shim. I have replaced both shim and plate with cheap self healing mats, but it's not something I feel comfortable about. Sadly its either this solution or ending up with all kinds of ugly lines and shapes on your paper. Although this machine cuts very well this might really be a game changer for me in the future! Thanks so much for your video!
I got so frustrated with the warping and had 2 or 3 cutting plates I could no longer use. I took my jigsaw and cut the plates and plastic and metal shims in half, and cut the magnet and embossing sheet in half with scissors. Now I have two sets of Gemini Jr. Sized plates, and they work in my big Gemini. I figured I had nothing to lose since they were heading into the trash. Be careful of the metal shims. I hammered it and then taped the edhes for safety. I don't often need large plates but will be doing this soon! Thank you for the great tip.
You are so smart! I’m just getting started in the embossing & die cutting. I’m new and haven’t ever done any but only knew I wanted an electric since I’m already old, 60s. I read that you have to replace the cutting plates often which gets expensive. Have you had to replace the mat since this video? Right now this Gemini is on sale and will be getting one now, now that you’ve shared your insight and saved everyone so much money. You’re amazing! TY!
I did some checking on her channel and she hasn’t posted in 7months. Don’t know if we’ll get any answers so we’ll have to hope she comes back soon. So smart and kind to share her knowledge.
I tried what you suggested! It is perfect! No warping. I am so happy. Thanks for the advice. So glad I don't have to spend my life savings on sandwich boards! That is a total ripoff!
@@angeliqueengeldesigns7905 I did - I have different machines (a Joy! Trouvaille and a small Love2craft) and went through a trial-and-error process for layering the sandwich - I can't recall exactly what the final choice was, I think I replaced the C plate by two layers of cutting mat with a cardstock shim in between. But every machine is different anyway ...
Thanks so much for sharing! I can’t wait to try this and also thanks for letting us know that the mat will not score previous cuts on the card stock! That’s ruined many projects for me! I think you’re wonderful and God bless you as well 😇
We r memory keepers uses a healing mat as their cut plate with their evolution machine. I loved it so much I started using it with my cuttlebug. It has been my go to. We r believes in making things to last. They gouge us for a plate of acrylic. Love this idea! TF saving us $!
Thank you SO much for this brilliant idea. I have three old cutting mats looking for a use and you have shown me the perfect one. Bless you; you are a genius! Marion in the UK
OMG, I am going out tomorrow (with my 50% off coupon)and am buying a self healing mat. Wonderful idea that will save me lots of money a I involved in a few die cut swaps.
I’m completely sold. I went and got an American Crafts self-healing mat from Tuesday Morning and tried this. Using my Tim Holtz mixed media dies-the ones I have the most trouble with-I ran the mat through my Big Shot. The most intricate die in Mixed Media #5 required an extra metal shim to get all of it well. About 95% of the bits popped right out with no effort. The two floral dies in that set cut without a shim. I ran it back and forth a few times. I had to do very little-just barely cut one or two tiny edges that didn’t go all the way through. What I like best is that it rounds the edge of the cut paper nicely-a bit more than usual. I guess because it impresses the die into this softer mat.
I will add that my American Crafts mat got marked up more than the mat in the video. But it’s not as bad as an acrylic mat. I’ll be interested to see how well it holds up. Thanks for this tip!!!!
Wow! I don’t have the nice Gemini, however, I have a Buy Shot. I’m going to check the thickness of my self healing mat with the plastic die cutting plate and see if I too don’t have to buy more plates. Thanks so very much for sharing this clever idea!!!
I tried it ... and I love it! Be forewarned .... it will not work with thick cutting mats. I had an older thinner one and it worked perfectly. Do not try to force the sandwich through. It the healing mat is the correct thickness, the Gemini will just scoop it up!
THANK YOU soooo much for the idea!!!! I have a Big Shot and go thru quite a few plates! Going to definitely give this a try! Been reading all the comments and they sound encouraging!!! Keep up the good work!!! We NEED tips like this!!! Hugs
This is such a help - Thankyou !! I’ve just used my brand new Gemini for the first time - my plates are ALREADY warped !! Even the big shots plates didn’t warp that quickly. I have a spare self healing mat which is the perfect - can’t wait to use this method now !!, ❤️❤️
. Your videos are down to facts without a lot of nonsense. I enjoyed every minute. Thanks, I definitely will watch you again.

Thanks so much for sharing! I can’t wait to try this and also thanks for letting us know that the mat will not score previous cuts on the card stock! That’s ruined many projects for me! I think you’re wonderful and God bless you as well 😇
Just cut a matt up and wham bam works for the cuttlebug and Bigshot plus so happy Thanks x
We r memory keepers uses a healing mat as their cut plate with their evolution machine. I loved it so much I started using it with my cuttlebug. It has been my go to. We r believes in making things to last. They gouge us for a plate of acrylic. Love this idea! TF saving us $!
The self healing pads would probably work with the Big Shot as well, great idea !! Thanks for sharing
Joan Mattie where can you buy the self healing pads?
You can buy self healing mats everywhere, fabric stores, walmart, usually if you have a craft or fabric department, they sell them.
It doesn t work with gemini, you ll distroy your projects and you will waste paper.
Believe, tried and is not working, it doesn t cut properly.
Thanks👍. My Gemini arrived today and with some bad reviews about the cutting plates, I needed to see your video 😊👍🙏
Thanks so much for the great tip... I often had that same problem and I think this is the answer.
Thank you for showing us this. Great information!
Thanks for sharing! Tried it with my Big Shot. It needed a shim but it worked just great, thanks again!
i just got a big shot a few month ago, Did you figure out a method to make this idea work, i'd like to try it
@@marycovington5405 I would like to know too! I have a big shot too...considering the gemini but have the big shot for now
Thank you so much for that idea. Its so great, will do that today. It did make it much more
quiet. Bless you!
Thank you SO much for this brilliant idea. I have three old cutting mats looking for a use and you have shown me the perfect one. Bless you; you are a genius! Marion in the UK
Wow this is a GREAT idea, thanks for sharing.
BRILLIANT!!!!!!!! Thanks for sharing! Since I bought the Tim Holtz media mat I have no need for my old mat. This is awesome.
I use the self healing mat with my big shot! It works great! 😀
Oh my goodness, I love you. What a brilliant tip, fantastic, thank you :)
Nederlands
Brilliant. Saved me buying a new machine.
Thanks for the video. This will save lots of money for other scrapping items!
I tried it ... and I love it! Be forewarned .... it will not work with thick cutting mats. I had an older thinner one and it worked perfectly. Do not try to force the sandwich through. It the healing mat is the correct thickness, the Gemini will just scoop it up!
Hello, I always play with the plate sandwich depending on the thickness of the dies I am using to find the right spot. blessings
I ordered a self-healing cutting mat from SSS. They work so well that they sold out immediately. I've been waiting to get one.
Thank you! What a brilliant idea! I have been so frustrated with my cutting plate! 🥰
That is amazing! Thank you for sharing.
