WOW! Thank you for making this video. I did not know that you can use fractions to help you get whole numbers by multiplying the bottom number to all of them -it makes total sense. It's so hard to balance when they're odd numbers.
omg thank you very much sir I have repeatedly searched for questions like this finally found them thank you sir for the lesson, how proud I am when I see the answer to this question in such a way you teach
damn, in my high school they have different method to do this but i couldn't do that with that method, this makes me see the other aspect of balancing stuff, nice
may i ask why you multiply them all by 2 in paticular to get a whole number coefficient? also if i had a different equation with a fraction and i wanted my coefficient a whole number would i always multiply them by 2
No your diving by 2 to cancel out the denominator and if you have a different fraction take the denominator to cancel the fraction and balance the equation
I just took my chem exam and did not know how to solve this problem. (I had to add up the coefficients. I also just finished crying about it lol) I ultimately guessed. Now watching this video, I now know what to do for my final exam. Thank you!!!
But is there a generalised technique to do this? I mean if I can bring those co-efficients to form some sort of equation and solve it to get the actual number of atoms that would be really helpful cause this method is somewhat a trial and error type, may create problems in the exam hall
There is an algebraic method to balancing equations (socratic.org/questions/how-to-balance-chemical-equations-using-algebraic-method). But most of the time I'll use trial and error and if I can't get it use another method (maybe algebraic but usually an online balancing app although you won't have that for an exam). --- Dr. B
It depends on the conditions and if catalysts are used. Take a look at the section "Combustion" on this page for the specifics... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ammonia --- Dr. B
When we balance equations what is most important (or useful) is the ratio of the coefficients. In this video a fraction was used to simplify the balancing process. You can change the fraction to a whole number once you get the correct ratio of coefficients. --- Dr. B
At that point in balancing the equation there are two Oxygen atoms in the 2NO term and three Oxygen atoms in the 3H2O term. To get the total we just add the 2 + 3. --- Dr. B
You're the best chemistry teacher👏👏👏
Yes
Yes you are right

Here it is balanced without the fraction:
4NH3+5O2 yields 4NO+6H2O

But O is not balanced 🤔
@@laxmisingh1638 It is! There are 10 "O's" on the left, and 10 "O's" on the right.
wtf why is this equation so hard
I was wondering the same 😢

Sir is it necessary to multiply the whle equation by 2 everytime or it depends ...?
Please answer
*whole
If you have fractions as a coefficient many teachers want you to multiply by two to get whole numbers.
damn, in my high school they have different method to do this but i couldn't do that with that method, this makes me see the other aspect of balancing stuff, nice

Sir is this the right answer?
4NH3 + 5O2 = 4NO+ 6H20
Yep, you can check it here with this online balancer:

You are the best chemistry teacher in the world. ❤️❤️❤️. Hope to meet you some day👍❤️
I hope so too!
dude you make me love chemistry in 2 minutes
makasih om sekarang aku jadi ngerti cara menyelesaikannya🎉
Nah cause I’ve been doing this particular question for a while now🤣
Great to hear!
You really save my mind
Very good 🎉 Thank you 😃
The answer can be 4NH3+2o2=4NO+6H2O
Because its hard to use fractional oxygen
Thank you boss you made me learn balancing from 7th class

Sir , is it compulsory to change the fraction to a whole number in the balanced equation?
If you don't convert into whole number the equation would be hard to understand
Why did you use 2 to multiply the whole equation?
Thanks for your help!
thank you Dr. B, you're really helpful and kind :)
1:32 you say 2oxygen from NO only but previous minute , 2 are from NO and H20
What is true? Confused me🤔
Thank you to much i was wondering what to do if we jot have to put fractions as coefficient... Once again thanks ❤

its ok but my teacher prefer whole number so that's why we multiply by 2

what about redox?
Very helpful and easy steps to understanding
Would you mind doing one for CaC2 + N2 = CaCN2 + C and MgNH4PO4 = Mg2P2O7 + NH3 + H2O?
I'd start with a 2 in front of the CaCN2.
For the next one ... yikes. Try a 2 in front of the MgNH4PO4. That will get you close.

can I ask what is the oxidizing agent in this reaction?
It's O2, isn't it? Cuz it oxidises NH3 and gets reduced to H2O (I'm not sure, but based on what I know, this is the ans)
