      @wishyrater 4 ปีที่แล้ว +42

      @@gundamcollector77 Well I don't agree with full-on socialism personally because capitalism has the strongest innovative power to improve the standard of living. But socialism is founded on very good ideals that the societal structure should serve the masses and the people and that information and capital should be democratised.
      HOWEVER, you do have to agree that capitalism causes a lot of issues, such as corporations buying the media, insane health care prices and so on.
      If you retain capitalism but you adopt socialist ideals and apply that to certain policies you can create a very functional society with a sky high standard of living and human development. This is what democratic socialism is, which is the model Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Germany etc follow which is working excellent.
      So when we're making fun of Americans calling people "socialists!" we're referring to those who assume that anything that isn't rugged individualism and neoliberalism is bad, which is not the case. That's the treatment Bernie Sanders got. He was constantly called a socialist even though his policies are not socialist and are actually the norm in every single country outside the US. :)

    And people think that the politics in the films were boring. As seen here, political parties have great influence on the state and direction of the government and, in extension, the galaxy. Through them, you get a sense on what the government was like during these time periods and how the majority people thought. It's not something to be ignored, and I'm looking at you, TFA.

    • @chadkingoffuckmountain970

      @Sir Knight Errant and how should a advanced space farring society decide to do things... do you know a better way then to have wise and learned political figures who have statistic and mathematical wizards working numbers figuring out what people want vs what people need vs what people can have and how to plan for the future?
      have you ever consideried that perhaps politics and math and our core learning fundamentals are the most advanced part of our society that could survive into the future where virtually everything else changes? that maybe the heart and soul of human behavior and action is all that will remain in 10,000 years?
      sort of depressing, sort of hopeful, sort of curious, and perhaps most of all sort of just looking back on who and what we are and wondering what else we could be, or what we could have been... looking away to the future and the past instead of living in the present is another common human... behavior and survival mechanism perhaps... analyzing our paths and purposes in the paths and destinations we choose and how we choose to get there through our methods and our.... luck... or perhaps discoveries.

      @Sir Knight Errant well what's the point on having flashy floating tech for political debates when you can just do it in the old fashion way requiring less resource (keep in mind the CIS compared to the republic is a relatively new government and are currently at war with the rupublic, they don't got the time and resources for any of that kind of shit)

    • @comradetrump7120
      @comradetrump7120 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Sir Knight Errant it looks like the house of commons as they wanted it to have a more traditional look. Also your statement on a galactic technological advances on the outer rim is false. This is because the core faction was in charge meaning that the outer rim areas were not as advanced as taxation was higher there. The point it's trying to get across is that the CIS parliament building wasn't as technologically advanced as the Republic senate building.

      @Tactical Bacon Actually Franklin ran a newspaper company and Jefferson and Washington managed their farm or at least appointed competent people to manage them. Washington,Jefferson had no prior experience in government but you were right about Franklin as he was speaker of the Pennsylvania assembly. Also they were some of the richest Americans because of the companies they ran, I agree with you the companies they ran were not like amazon they were more like Walmart because they were family run businesses. Finally Franklin stopped owning slaves around 20 years before the revolution and he eventually became a abolitionist.

      Suggestion - create the Galactic Empire or Galactic Alliance of Planets or The Galactic Kingdom with:
      1. Figurehead of the galaxy. Ceremonial Emperor/Empress. Royalty. Apolitical. Hereditary. Protected by the Imperial Royal Guard.
      2. By popular galactic vote (not the Senate, but the people), elect the Premier of the Galaxy who makes decisions and rules for 5 years (no more than 3 terms).
      3. Have a Vice Chancellor, also elected by pure popular vote. The ballot list in this case will be restricted to a quota system, so that every species holds this office every few years/decade.
      4. Have a Galactic Imperial Senate, three quarters of members are elected by their respective worlds, and one quarter appointed by a Senate committee who may only appoint technocrats and non political members to said seats. The Senate Committee will rotate every few years to represent different sectors and not one part of the galaxy.
      5. The Jedi Council, who nominates and elects its successors, who manage the Jedi Order and report to the Judiciary who are independent of the Governing Council.
      6. The Premier will head the Imperial Governing Council with the Vice Chancellor presiding over the Senate sessions and also part of the Council. The Council may consist of up to 20 members (including the Premier and Vice Chancellor). Only 3 members may be appointed from the Senate. 12 members (non Senators) appointed by the Premier. 1 by the Emperor/Empress. 1 by the Jedi Council. 3 members may be appointed from the technocratic part of the Senate.
      7. The Jedi will police the galaxy with the help of two support groups, on behalf of the Judiciary - independent judges who follow the constitution to the letter and who rise by merit, and who serve the Emperor/Empress and not the Governing Council. The first will be the relevant sector police forces who enforce Imperial law at a local level. The second will be the Imperial Army, comprising of clone troopers and battle droids, stationed in key systems, and led by a combination of Jedi officers and Imperial officers trained at Imperial Academies throughout the galaxy.
      8. The Governing Council led by the Premier will deal with all day to day affairs of the Galactic Kingdom. The Imperial Army may be employed whenever the Jedi feel necessary, or for a period of 2 months at any time by the Premier's command (on behalf of the Emperor/Empress), whereupon Senate approval will be required. The Emperor/Empress may also command the Imperial Army to settle disputes and be posted to defend the Alliance from pirates etc at any time.
      9. The Imperial Senate will decide upon galactic funding and no budget may be put into effect without their approval.
      10. In the event of an extraordinary emergency, the Jedi Order will govern the Republic for a period of no more than 6 months. This emergency must be approved by the Emperor/Empress.
      11. All troopers and officers must swear allegiance to the Emperor/Empress above all else. Their parliament's basically toothless and their armies are controlled and paid for by a gang of greedy war-profiteers.

    • @Qardo
      @Qardo 6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Well, that just means more chaos in the Galaxy. Without a Centralised Government to control the peace. You will have systems going to war with other systems over resources. Even further enslaving of other races over any number of matters. With a centralized government. However imperfect it is. At least set laws that all plays can at least try to keep the peace. Keep systems from destroying each other over petty things.
      Also, the issues with the whole of why the CIS leaving the Senate was because they were being enslaved by those who want to bring all the wealth and glory to the Core. Just like the Southern States of the United States did with the North over the unfair tax laws that hurt the South. That lead further to the Civil War. The only reason we remember it about Slavery issue was that the North won the war and wrote the history. Tried to gloss over the fact the War was started over unfair taxation of Southern States.
      So to be fair. The CIS were pawns to a larger game. They unwittingly got played. And in turn were seen as the bad guys before, during, and after the Clone Wars and the Rise of the Empire. History as they say. Is written by the Victor and the Empire won and wrote the history.

    • @Cookiesrfood
      @Cookiesrfood 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That's a little nieve to think that systems wouldn't go to war with each other when countries in our own world go to war with each other all the time and with the populists view each system is essentially its own nation there are no united nations unless these systems form protection packs with other systems you also assume that neutral systems would rush to the aid of the defender when they can just as easily aid the attacker to split the resources but most likely they would stay out of the conflict rather then risk their own people thats actually a big reason why they want their own separte systems apart from any centralised government so they dont get dragged into wars and have free autonomy to rule how they see fit Also your potentially going to have multiple wars going on at once as the more powerful systems form their own mini empires which will lead to centralized governments anyways
      so for these and other reasons Id be for a centralized government because even for all its flaws it's still the better government that offers a lot more peace and stability while still letting systems have their individual freedoms it takes all the good aspects from the Empire and throws away all the evil actions.
      The CIS are also not the good guys lol they attacked first against the Republic knowingly worked with Sith who have a history of being evil and were ran by greedy corporations while some had legitimate grievances against the Republic and just wanted peaceful separation others wanted revenge rather than justice or "just leave us alone" separation they employed brutal tactics enslaved and terrorized systems as they were controlled by Sith its fairer to say the CIS are the manulipated guys and the Republic are the corrupt ones as the Republic had its faults as well

    • @Qardo
      @Qardo 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're assuming that one race towards another does not have bad blood between them. Though been suppressed by larger powers that controlled the galaxy for a time. Then, when finally free from this large power. That they are free to govern themselves. You assume that the smaller elements that have a loud voice won't try to rally their race to fight against some other rice. All to subjugate them or destroy them. To pay back the blood price that had been made.
      You assume the galaxy is one big happy family. It isn't. No, really it isn't. There is bad blood all around. A lot of literal racism in the galaxy. Hell would not surprise me that some races ban together and start killing human populated worlds. All to get back at what the Empire did to them. Or there is a fullscale war between other races. Like that of the Wookies and the Trandoshans. Those two races HATE each other and even in Canon do not like each other.
      Then, got nomadic tribes like that of the Sandpeople on Tatooine get a strong single leader. That unites the tribes under his banner. And go out killing all those who are all off-worlders. Even enslave others who are worth enslaving.
      You seriously assume too much of the galaxy can get along nicely without a large governing power to maintain the status quo. That is rather a nieve viewpoint. Maybe I am too much of a pragmatic to see the light but is how the Star Wars Universe is Fantasy Sci-Fi place and viewing of human society. Using Aliens and other methods. To point out flaws in humans and show how extreme an ideology can get. All without setting off triggers or alarms in the censorship groups in the real world.
      I bet you believed that the Empire was truly evil. The Rebels were truly good. In fact. Neither side was good nor evil. They were just powers that drew people to them. They were the embodiment of a whole bunch of people. As really Empire had a lot of good people. Yet they were drowned out by those who cared for nothing but power. As for the Rebels. They did evil acts and had the guile to justify them. Saying the Empire made them do it. The Empire was, in fact, a good thing. It brought forth a stable government. Peace. Yet there were those who thought differently and decided to enact acts of terrorism to shake things up. This is why we see the Empire doing evil. All to crush these terrorists. Though in grand rebel propaganda fashion. Their attempts fail. All because the story writes out that the Rebels always have to win.
      So really as I see it. A strong central government is important in a universe that is so vast. That these different races would easily break down any forms of friendship to going to war with one another over the littlest of things.

    Living in this galaxy would be so exciting and so frustrating for political enthusiasts like myself. On one hand, there's always something going on and there's so many different viewpoints. On the other, it's literally impossible to keep up with it all in such a big galaxy.

    War is an extension of politics. Anyone who thinks you can have a Star _Wars_ movie without some level of politics is crazy. Even the original trilogy, with an established autocratic regime facing no real challengers still has bits of it.

    What if Anakin couldn't kill the younglings?
    Think about it: "Anakin, now Darth Vader, ignited his lightsaber. The younglings flinched. He could not breathe, they stood no chance against him. They were not Battle Droids or the traitorous Jedi, they were children. He thought of Padmé: they were soon to have a child of their own-the thought of killing a child and alienating her was too much. It would haunt him for the rest of his life, like a shadow. He closed his eyes, thinking carefully about his next move."

    As much as people complain about the prevelance of politics in Star Wars, I argue for the preservation of this interesting facet of the Star Wars Universe. It reminds us that everything is connected to the decisions of those we elect. It is interesting to see the dynamics, parallels, ane similarities between the Star Wars political factions, and that of our own history and present reality.

    In the Old Republic Senate, I'd probably be a moderate, supporting a strong central government that also equally represents the wishes of the Rim faction (except the megacorporations, fuck that) and ends the exploitation of Rim systems. In the New Republic, I'd be a Centrist, but I'd spend a great deal of time denouncing the ex-Imperials and Imperial sympathizers in the underbelly of the party.

    • @RoyalProtectorate
      @RoyalProtectorate 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Obroa-skai so a moderate centrist from the new republic is what you are, but in all I agree with you.

    • @girlgarde
      @girlgarde 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd likely be a moderate Centrist too in either government and would advocate having a fairly strong military to defend against pirates and invaders. However, I wouldn't advocate exploiting the Rim systems and would wish to have their concerns addressed. Also, I would NOT be an alien hating bastard.
      In the Old Republic Senate, I'd be against having the megacorporations having seats in the Senate and against their high levels of influence in the government while in the New Republic Senate, I'd support having a fairly strong military and would be against total pacifism but I'd also express my displeasure at the Emperor's dark deeds during his reign.
      Of course, in both Senate bodies, I'd be called a warmonger and a fascist but I'd fight back of course by pointing out how foolish total pacifism is and how it's never done anyone any good and only created a setting for Palpatine to take control.

      The Emprie wasn't as corrupt as the republic, but Palpatine was its ultimate ruler, and ultimately it was a dictatory. Yet it would have crushed the first order or any other regular army, which would dare oppose it.
      The Galaxy didn't deserve Galactic Empire, but it needed it to maintain peace.
      Despite how much I despise dictatories, I prefer the Galactic Empire over a galaxy, that is at constant war. Not to mention, once Palpatine dies, the regime ends, and it can reform into a powerful republic and who knows maybe it could reform into a democracy.
      Also, who the hell cares how corrupt a system is, it is still, better than being drafted into a useless war, where people exchange one tyrant for another who can be better OR WORSE!

    On the subject of Leia’s political career being destroyed purely by the her flood relation to Vader, I personally see this as a generalization of missplaced fear on the part of the reunified systems. One good look at Leia Argana’s actions within the rebellion as well as within the senate during the time of the empire, would show very well that she was following closely in the footsteps of her mother Queen Parker Amidalla.

    For my Starwars story im looking for a faction that had committed terrible atrocities in the galaxy but is not that well known or even to most fans in general. The idea im going with for my main character is that they will find out throughout the story that their ancestors were involved in evil atrocities and they carry that guilt. This will be part of my main character's hero's journey.
