      +Martin McNeill Christians have another problem as they claim Jeshuah the illigitimate craftsmen son and "god" was promised in the OT. So throwing out the OT throws out Jeshuah to. I like that approach as who prays to humans. ;)

    • @WarperBlade

      Nero Void Not really, I'm just adding evidence to his argument. Many Christians claim the OT doesn't apply despite that fact the Jesus himself said that it still did 100%. They defend Adam and Eve and the Ten Commandments and yet they say the old testament "doesn't count".

      Is it possible to have an intelligent conversation about someone’s beliefs without hostility and profanity? There’s a saying that if you have the facts, pound the facts - if you don’t have the facts, pound the table. Anytime you try to tear down someone’s beliefs there will be hostility.

    As an atheist, I never resorted to Christianity to give me a set of morals. It's always been very simple. Don't mess with others and they won't mess with you. No religion is needed here.

    • @leepeffers9331
      @leepeffers9331 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      eh, for the most part that's what I got out of Christianity. It's pretty easy to tell the parts that man put in there to control people and which parts were honest to goodness teachings about how to live and treat others. Grew up with a roman catholic family, went to private school the whole nine. I despise the concept of religion myself, but the part where it said do unto others has always stuck with me. If the man Jesus did actually exist I honestly think that's what he was trying to say to people. He went around feeding hungry people and doing good deeds for the sake of doing good deeds. Man is greedy by nature and they contorted the story to fit their own needs. They thought homosexuality was wrong so bam all of a sudden God tells them to write it down that being gay is evil. So I agree with you, but I just think humans got in the way of belief systems teaching to love each other and that's where those rules came from.

    • @Thebuilderofthings1
      @Thebuilderofthings1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Ksortakh Kraxthar It just simply makes sense. I'm not convinced religion 'created' all of man's morals. He needed morals for the purpose of survival by getting along with others for the sake of trade. Since when do you really need religion to tell you the obvious? It's not a concept you need to pull out of a book.

    • @Ksorkrax
      @Ksorkrax 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thebuilderofthings1
      Err, thing is, you probably are not familiar with the term "left hand religions". They are sorta anti-religions (although that is a simplification, especially when one looks at strange stuff like Thelema). My former post was set in a somewhat funnier mood.
      Talking seriously, I'd agree with your opinion, especially in regard to the contents of the bible.

    • @anna-ceciliawilliams3295
      @anna-ceciliawilliams3295 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I think morals are something that you learn as you grow by observing and listening to your peers and parents. You don't need religion to tell right from wrong. I mean my dog for example, is beyond obviously not religious, but he knows its wrong to pee on the carpet. He knows not to hurt others, unless protecting someone else or in self-defense. So if animals without religion and/or a close personal relationship (sounds kinda pedophilic) with God can tell right from wrong, then why shouldn't people be able to. I am pretty sure I just sounded like an idiot.

      No dumbass, we don't have to prove shit. No claim of god was ever done. You people made the claim that god is controlling everything. We ask you to prove it, your best answer is the bible or whatever dumb book said so. We then ask, how do you know the book is correct, your best answer is because the book says it's real. That's not proving anything.
      I've never said there isn't a god, I would have the burden of proof to disprove that.

    • @duncanmountford8426

      It is true that science can predict the orbits of the planets very accurately. But science has no idea what gravity actually is. General Relativity says that the empty vacuum curves in the presence of matter. In other words, the hard vacuum acts as an elastic medium. GR is highly successful at accurately predicting the behaviour of gravitating bodies and it eliminated the problem of action at a distance. But the nature of gravity itself is a mystery

    • @laddyboi5628
      @laddyboi5628 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The presence of science and its proofs doesn't refute the Bible. I myself am Christian and understand that there are laws of science that we can understand. It's the fact that evolution is called "The Theory of Evolution" and not "The law of Evolution" and that every aspect of evolution is up for debate doesn't make it a reliable course for explaining the beginnings of the universe. one being wrong also doesn't make the other right so what do I know...

      So what your saying is that belief in the correct God is not necessary to reach paradise. So why bother being religious at all, if we can just focus on being moral? And the final question, why pray or go to church when one could be helping others, as both methodologies would get you into paradise, and helping others would allow others a longer life span in which to help others, with the chance of creating a utopia on earth, and getting more people into paradise for their souls. Whilst praying does nothing but (possibly) give you a warm fuzzy feeling?

    Explaining atheism to the proletariat masses is truly a hard task.
    Just like explaining communism to someone - there's a difference between totalitarian dictatorship and actual communism.
    Communism says two things:
    1. Work as much as you can.
    2. Take as much as you need.
    Imagine if everyone worked as much as they can instead of the traditional 8 hour schedule. I guess people would work 1-2 hours, if they would work at all. Now, imagine if everyone would take as you need. People would take TONS of food and everything. This is why communism, and marxism in general can never work in a society like this.
    I respect all kinds of religions, but I hate when Christians in my area assault me with their messages about Jesus etc. and ask me why I'm an atheist. When I respond, they get a bit down and try to avoid talking to me or atleast avoid talking about the same principles of belief anymore. It's stupid.

      The first commandment states, "you shall have no other gods above me" meaning God is the only God you should worship and trust and confide with. His jealousy comes from the fact that if we create gods to worship instead of worshipping the true God, that makes him jealous, not that the other gods already exist.

      @@medionlvr God saying in the commandment not to have other gods does not acknowledge that the other gods exist literally but that they existed in the minds of those who rebel against God in the Bible. That's why consistently throughout the Bible it is clear while other gods usually have a physical form and design based on statues or shines depicting them, the God of the Jews was wholly different because there is no actual image of God that was created by the Jews. They simply believed he was real and worshipped him. It's why in Exodus: 32 that the Israelites beg for a statue of a calf to be made so that they can worship something they could see, so Aaron makes one for them while God is giving Moses the ten commandment on mount Sinai. They made it up, the god didn't already exist.

    For number 9, I would have to argue with anyone who tells me that that they BECAME a Christian only because another human told them about it. I became an Atheist because I realized religion is only a tool of manipulation used by many humans in the past and is still used today to try to gain control.
    My ten year old sister was scared into submission with the threat of 'burning a fiery lake in hell' by her babysitter when she wouldn't clean her room. My fourteen year old sister was held down against her will so her 'Pastor' grandfather could perform an exorcism on her when she was rebelling like a normal teenager THEN forced her to pray. Both girls were horribly scarred by this. The ten year old started to have panic attacks when she forgot to pray and the fourteen year old wouldn't allow anyone near her after in fear someone would repeat it. It was one of the most heart wrenching times of my life.
    Religion is abuse, plain and simple. If it wasn't, people wouldn't be throwing around 'if you don't do ____, you'll go to heaven/hell.' to scare others to do what THEY want. And that is also where the Bible plays in. It was created to spread fear of this imaginary being that does all these horrible things so people would try to do what it commands to get on its good side for an eternal reward. I don't need science (Tho am in favor of it) to see this trend in history. It took me to step outside it all and look at religion as a whole to see this.It's not about a god, it's about humans manipulating one another to get what they want.
    Others will entice you with the lighter side, giving you a sense of wonder and fantasy about this all knowing being who loves you who is everywhere but the moment you step against the grain is when you are taught the impossible consequences of the same being turning on you with terrifying power or another deity who will take you and make you suffer for all eternity. That's if you're lucky. You may learn about the consequences at the same time you learned about the good but since they have already gotten into your head with the good stuff, you'll believe the bad and that will keep you in line. It takes away your right as a free thinking individual and scares you into never questioning what you're told.
    Those who questioned it in the past were either tortured or killed for doing so which helped instill that fear. With that long ago and far away, I'm surprised there are still so many who don't question the nature of their religion and why there's so many problems with it.
    Then there are the ones who think that the Bible is nothing but good. Yet there are horror stories that can be picked from it. I rather those who are truly curious to do their own research. You can't claim to have read the Bible and not have found these stories. Maybe after such research, some might actually realize what they've been supporting all this time. I found out on my own, so I think it's best that everyone else does as well.
    I could care less about any other argument to try to prove some imaginary friend in the sky exists though I do believe every religion started as a telephone game or an ugly rumor that spread like wild fire.
    I don't believe in filling the gaps with a made up deity that supposedly contradicts everything it does. If you don't know something, just say it. Don't try to make up some bull shit excuse and don't try to twist facts in your favor.

    • @laddyboi5628
      @laddyboi5628 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Every religion has those who will use it for their own benefit, and I wish it wasn't true. Christianity at its core is simply this:
      Believe that Jesus came to earth as a human, died so that you may live and be forgiven of your sin, and rose so that you may be with him one day in heaven.
      Everything else is secondary in life. The fact that there are practicing Christians who do bad things and use God and the bible to manipulate others is not something that is considered good, but humans have free will, and Christians are just as human as everyone else. It's not an excuse it's an explanation. Some will use free will for good, bad, to become a Christian, or to become an Atheist. (I'm not stating being an Atheist as being bad). But ultimately, God has given you the choice to be an Atheist, and that is exactly why I am Christian. I believe he loves me enough to let me choose, just as he loves you enough to let you choose your own life.

      ***** It's different, one of the commandments (not going to look it up) says to not have statues of any other person to worship. Christians take this literally and there are no statues of Jesus and such, but Catholics have Jesus and Mary and the whole crew. I think William Wong was referring to the name of the "god" as Yahweh, Allah, or God.

    • @trantracs
      @trantracs 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** They're a division of Christianity, but if I'm correct, Christians say Catholicism is wrong. You can't be yourself and call yourself right and wrong like that. (If I'm right) It's all based off of interpretation. The Church of (I forget which country) allows gay marriage, which most other forms of Christianity will claim it's wrong for that reason.

    • @DriftLV1
      @DriftLV1 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      megax65 Catholics are a denomination of Christianity. Not only that, they were the first form/version of Christianity. So you saying they're a division doesn't make any sense. Also the majority of Christians are catholic. Nothing right now is supporting your non-existent argument. Denominations all disagree with each other and have their differences, that doesn't mean you can magically exclude one for being too different from another.

      The quantum vacuum has no time, no space, and no matter or energy of any kind. Yet, virtual particles pop in and out of existence within, and some actually stick, eventually forming something from nothing. The only way that could happen is if there is at least some modicum of time.
      Therefore, when "we" say that time began at the Big Bang event, we mean time as we know it. Of course, we mean the same thing about the universe when we say it began at the Big Bang. At least Guth, of the Borde, Guth, Valenkin Theorem believed that the universe was most likely infinitely existing/eternal. There are plenty of other scientists who believe the same, though those don't get much air time.

      I think you are speaking of subjective time. There is a certain "observer effect" when it comes to any discussion of time. But time, as we have come to realize it, is, quite simply, a medium of change. Thus, any change in state tends to imply time.
