@@HighFalutinTootin Exactly right. Jake never NEEDED a belt. He was already over on the basis of his dark gimmick, his uniquely unsettling promos, and the ever-present snake in the bag.
A lot of people always think that "the belt" is what's needed to make a wrestler. Not always the case. (The belt didn't do much for Warrior with his 9-month failed run in 1990.)
Rowdy Roddy Piper is another instance of a wrestler who was totally "over" with the crowd -- whether heel or babyface -- that he never needed a belt to enhance his status. He didn't need it at all.
And Jake "The Snake" Roberts was that kind of wrestler, too. Never ever needed a title to signify that he was important.

FANTASY BOOKING IDEAS: what could have been....had Warrior not got fired because of his over-boiling pot of ego nuttiness, the angle with Roberts would have been immense! Jake was super-over as a babyface in 1991, but his character was quasi-heel without being so, or almost more 'neutral', so allowed for that transition into eventual heel, acceptable. It would have brought bums to seats for sure....it was the right call, and a great storyline, but the wrong time (only because of Warrior's firing) - with hindsight, granted............you could have had Hogan/Warrior vs Roberts/Taker at SummerSlam, although that might have been too soon, as Warrior/Taker feud was still in progress and the situation with Jake/Warrior vignettes happened when the actual main event had already been booked with Slaughter and co......maybe at Survivor Series in a main event tag match, or co-captains of opposing teams?! Then individual matches at a Saturday Night Main Event or Tuesday in Texas? Just to roll it out, like red carpet...so to speak! Builds to a big re-match between Hogan/Warrior at WM 8! That being said.....Warrior's firing lead to the Savage/Roberts angle, which eventually involved Flair for Wrestlemania 8. Oh man, so many sliding doors moments....I wonder if all this NOT happening would have made the Royal Rumble in '92, still the best ever Rumble in my view, any different..?! No title on the line in the actual match?
What could have been, what could have been! (I'd still have vacated the title, it made the drama of that year's Rumble so important in the context of the canon and storytelling...). Would have been interesting to see how it played out, but.....alas, we'll never know

I find it pretty shady that Jake continues to trash Warrior after he told the story in many interviews about them burying the hatchet at the HOF. This is so full of errors I barely know where to begin.
    1. Jake is delusional. His timelines were all off as Warrior wasn't actually champion at that stage.
    2. No. Warrior didn't make demands to be treated equal to Hulk before Summerslam 1991. The agreement to be treated and paid equal to Hulk had been in place since Wrestlemania 6, when it was agrees that Warrior as champion should not be earning less than anyone who was not champion, including Hulk. It was explicitly agreed that from that point on, Warrior would be paid the same as Hulk. And he was. Right until Wreatlemania 7, when McMahon stiffed Warrior on his pay. And when did the wrestlers receive their payoff for Mania 7? That's right - immediately before Summerslam 1991.
    3. So in case you haven't figured it out yet, Warrior was NOT holding ANYONE up for 'more' money. He was demanding what had been agreed and in place for over a year, that McMahon stiffed him on without discussion or agreement. He was demanding what he was OWED for work already done.
These are the facts, whether anyone reading this comment chooses to believe them or not. The two in this video are nothing more than bitter individuals twisting the truth for their own selfish purposes.
