- Also one thing I didn't mention you will have to bleed the coolant, bleed valve goes on top of or near the top of the egr valve.

We cut a slot in the bolt of death bracket on the cooler assembly so you can slide over that bolt instead of having to remove it. It works great, and it took 2 min to modify.
That's smart I wish Toyota designed it that way from the factory
Very cool that you removed the cooler without having to remove the windshield assembly and plastic cover! 👍
Thanks for watching really appreciate it
I really enjoyed your attention to detail showing the location of the hidden bolts. Stopping to have tea and coffee was great. Thanks and subscribed.
Thanks mate
You have to also pull your intake and clean the 4 egr inlet holes that flow into the intake really good... You can instal brand new egr valve and cooler but if those 4 holes are blocked car will still not run correct
Use a brass 22cal. gun bore cleaning brush for the small intake holes. And plenty of brake/parts cleaner spray.
really good video... probably the best regarding removing the cooler! Helped me out a lot! Thanks!
Thanks for watching really appreciate.
I love it when the TH-camr smacks the lens of the camera with the palm of his hand! It adds *so* much to the video!
Great vid. You are the man!
Great job! Thank you very much!
Wow... that's a lot of work.
How did you remove and put back the 2 nuts in the back that held the cooler to the exhaust manifold?
hah that was epic dude, good job!
Thanks for watching
I wish you could have shown how to you took the bolts off, how do you get around the long metal pipe
Thanks bro .make more videos..good luck 😊
hi, how much will cost? i need to change new one.
awesome
Good video …i have no intention of doing this job - letting Toyota do it ….. lol …. But very good clear , well documented, clear video….. a lot of steps with specialized tools. Thank you!
Thanks for watching really appreciate it
Good Job
Very nice and easy
Good job boss
Thanks for watching really appreciate your support
I just fixed my p0401 code, I replaced just the egr valve motor with a good one off eBay and no more code!! Getting 40-45mpg city...if you clean everything and still get a code its the egr motor going bad
Thanks for the video in general but also thank you for tip regarding the un necessary bolt of death. i will leave it off!
Thanks for watching really appreciate it
Hey thank you for the video, so we are not putting the bolt back... works fine by me
Throw the bolt away as far as you can, I hate that bolt. Thanks for watching please like share and subscribe
Did you have to remove the stud behind the "nut of death", or just the front stud? Thanks for everything!
Yes I did
To take it off I think you can just get away with taking the front stud off. Once the EGR VALVE is off you can take it off easier
I attempted to replace my egr/cooler today early Sunday. That nut/bolt on the middle of cooler kick my butt. I was able to take the nut and was loosening the bolt screw, but ran out of energy and time. I will try again another weekend...
Next time i will not take out the wiper mechanism and the cowl...
Tell me about it that nut of death is crazy. Glad you took it off
Thanks for the very clear video. Yours is the only one that recommend to disconnect the battery. However, can you go a bit more in depth about the high voltage disconnect procedure? I’m a bit confusion as you said disconnect it but wonder if disconnecting the 12v battery is enough? Also, when reconnecting battery (12v and high votage), will there be any error code after? Should there be any caution before disconnecting them batteries?
Al be honest I don't know any procedure just take the battery leads off. Also shouldn't be a problem with errors codes
The whole car's controls are from the 12V battery, If you disconnect it , everything stops. For this job, you do not really need to disconnect the battery. It is very common for this EGR line to have carbon build up. Cleaning it regularly every 100k miles for normal driving should be fine. Most of the time, they do not go bad, just get dirty. You can clean it with Brake cleaner of just pressure washer if you have it. The 4th gen Prius or Corolla 2019 hybrid has updated design, the EGR is after the catalytic converter that should reduce the amount of the carbon build up. For Auris 2 and Prius 3rd gen, this cleaning is kind of maintenance every 100k miles or 150k KM.
@@rondhole thank you so much for clearing it up. Working around those big orange cable really makes me nervous, hence the question regarding disconecting 12v is enough. Mine is 1255xx miles, just got it used and I dont think egr pipe/cooler assembly were ever cleaned. Thank you again. I’m going ahead and do this item along with cleaning intake manifold and both coolant drain and refill.
I know I'm late to the show, but the high voltage cutoff is an orange clip under the back seat. You have to take out the plastic tray covering the spare tire. There are many videos walking you through the process. I highly recommend pulling that clip any time you are working on this car. Better safe than sorry.
Why was EGR and Coolant replaced? What were the symptoms or wrong with the car? I have a 2011 Prius too
Car use to go into limp mode
Removing the EGR cooler is no joke. Spent a small fortune buying specialized tools. In retro, would have been better to take it to a mech. See if your mech will remove for you, clean it yourself to save $, and have mech put it back together for you.
Nice video. DO you need to remove the wiper motor assembly to get access to the EGR cooler?
No I didnt have to
@@TEAMR4ULTV Wow, how did you do that? I plan to clean my 2012 Prius EGR circuit, and have no experience. It looks like almost everyone on TH-cam did it the other way.
I wonder if I can do your way and how hard is it? How much time will it save vs. the other way?
@@Sunnysky321 al be honest it's not the easiest but if you follow my video and take your time you should be ok. But you need to be patient. I find it easy this way
@@TEAMR4ULTV Sorry for so many questions: 1) What tools and sizes did you use to remove the 2 nuts connecting to the exhaust? 2) Same tool for the 1 nut/bolt below the cooler? 3) Your top tip is "don't put the bolt below the cooler back", right?
@@Sunnysky321 yep leave that nut off. Sorry should have mentioned the tools required for the job was new to you tube then.
Ok you will need the following to do the job
Ratchet, extension
10mm spanner and socket
12mm spanner and socket
Pliers
14mm socket and spanner. As for the size of the nut 12mm spanner
Good job, did the cooling system need bleeding ?
Yes it did sorry forgot to mention it
@@TEAMR4ULTV Good to know, thanks for the info.
hi, do you need to disconnect the battery when doing all that
I didn't disconnect the battery
Great job, how much should It cost to do this on my prius? Where are u based fancy a job?
Am in hyde Cheshire,
It will cost you about £100 labour plus the parts
Do those studs originally have loctite (or equivalent) on them?
Not really. But some could do.
Thanks for the video. I struggled with getting that bolt of death off today and never did. The tip to get more room with unclipping the orange cables will make a huge difference. I managed to get it off once before and I'm mad at myself for putting it back on as I feel it isn't needed either. That dang unit isn't going anywhere. Why did you have to remove the stud though? The EGR cooler will slide off even with the stud in place won't it?
Thanks for watching really appreciate it. The reason why I took the studs off is because, the studs go in through side and I was taking the EGR VALVE off towards front of the car with the studs being there cant pull it towards front of the car. I hope am making sense. That's the reason why I took the studs off
@@TEAMR4ULTV That makes sense. I was trying to remember what I did the first time and I think I removed the studs from the back of the EGR cooler so I could pull it off sideways. I'm going to get good at this as I would like to clean the parts every 50k miles. I have an extra EGR cooler and EGR valve so I can quickly swap them and take my time cleaning the parts. Thanks for the reply.
What did u use to remove the difficykt bolt
To be honest just took a long time just normal socket ratchet etc
@@TEAMR4ULTV I removed it but I did not put it back
Where is your garage for when I need work on a Prius ?
Hyde Cheshire
Why didn't you just clean out the existing one?
Did clean it out but only lasts for a month then goes bad again so decided to Replace it
@@TEAMR4ULTV Ahhh yes it can , if you do not put in a new PCV and an oil catch can
Nothing is impossible bid dog…. Nothing!
Thanks for watching really appreciate it
Toyota had to make it so difficul to take out EGR valve/cooler. Toyota maybe high quality, but servicibility is only so-so at best.
100%
So easy ,takes an hour or two if its not rusted
Thanks for watching really appreciate it
