Mara Keagle is singing lead vocals on this song. So much has happened with this band since 1996! Every album is an event to be enjoyed in it's entirety. There are a lot of excellent videos to their songs too. (They released 3 albums in '96, and 17 new albums as of 2023!)

Excellent choice, my sons got me into this band a while ago. Very eclectic group, this album is a favorite with the double Rolling Stones reference( Brian Jones, and the Stones album Their Satanic Majesty's Request. An album I acquired in 1970!). Peace & Love

Became a little obsessed with this song a few months ago. Just such a unique, low slung, haunted dancehall vibe. And that tambourine!

This song put them on the map for me. You nailed it--it's a mood song. It's a vibe. You settle in and enjoy how cool it sounds. They have many really good ones. Check out "Pish" and "It's About Being Free Really".

"a road trip out west" is a good description, and yeah a laid-back mood song. With those Cat Facts scrolling in the background, I was thinking you should listen to BJM's more energetic "Who Dreams of Cats" 🐱

This is a great band Justin! They were low down in the 90s but had a cult following and got popular over the years. This is considered their signature song Anemone. They got other great tunes too you should check them.

They just had to cancel some remaining dates on their tour in Australia because two of the band members got in a fight on stage.

The BJM are the godfathers of modern psych and have influenced a lot of other bands. Fun fact this is the great late Anthony Bordain's favourite track.

Good to see you get into all the heroin music. I don't do the drug, but I love the music.

Please get into some Mazzy Star. Similar vibe, better vocals. "Blue Flower" or "Fade into You" is a good place to start.

I first discovered BJM about 4 years ago. After the first listen I shrugged. After the 2nd I started noticing things. After the 3rd...I spent about a full year listening to no one else as I explored their rather huge catalog of albums. They range from folk-ish to electronica. One song will not suffice to categorize them, nor will five. The compilation album "Tepid Peppermint Wonderland" was my starting point and dips into their first decade of material. Ten BJM fans will have ten different opinions, but I'd recommend their later albums "Third World Pyramid" and "Mini Album Thingy Wingy". But that's just me. And you'll never have the time...there's just too much!
This song is one of only a few of theirs to feature a female lead vocal. The band was essentially Anton Newcombe (as songwriter, usual lead vocals, and multi-instruments) and whoever else happened to be in the band that year. The lazy nature of the song is not uncommon with BJM and probably reflects some rather excessive drug use. BJM is the only band I think of (sometimes) as "heroin rock".

Anton is a genius of pop rock, but cannot actually play a sitar (he can play notes on one, but doesn't know the actual technique - over critical sitar player here).

First learned about this band on Dig, the documentary, highly recommended. One sixties seventies influenced bands I do enjoy listening to. Hadn’t heard this one, I dug it. Get it? Sorry.
Not sure that’s Anton. Could be.

I had to separate the art from the artist with this particular band. Anton Newcombe is racist and horribly abusive. The first albums are lovely though ❤

    • @jonbeddow5794

Definitely abusive and at times a prick on stage but racist? What makes you say that?

@@jonbeddow5794 I've heard him call ppl the n word with a hard r on a few you tube videos. Some from a few years ago and some recently. That's racist AF.

Yet, another 2-chord song… I like the atmosphere, though.

Ok in a dreamy, floaty, sort of way but ultimately felt a little lacking. Some variation, change of pace, would've been nice.
