We used mostly simple words in this video, but talked at a faster speed. It is interesting to see the English speaking habits reflected in Max's Mandarin, and some communication strategies he used with simpler Chinese words. Also, we used filler words like 然后, 就是, quite exessively 😆.
I thought it could be a good listening practice to feel the more "normal" speaking speed in simple Chinese.
Just curious what are the english speaking habits he does?
@@wiggmanoriginalGood question. On the top of my head, here are some: He tends to say 这年 instead of 今年. He said 难一些，但是没有难像五年级, though not wrong, a more natural saying is 没有像五年级那么难. And he said 开始上学时, while we would just say 开学时. I think these are all like translations from English. But the most important thing is getting messages crossed, and he communicates himself really well. So it doesn’t have to be perfect Chinese:)

Max is adorable! His mandarin fluency is amazing for someone who was born and raised in an English speaking country. Can you interview his parents for tips? I’m trying to do the same with my kids but it is so hard when they go to school and everyone speaks English.

Max's Chinese seems pretty effortless, and to me at least, it seems his pronunciation and tones are excellent. Maybe Max can talk about his experience of learning Chinese in Canada.

@@nic.esp20 You got this! And the whole point of getting input is to listen to the ones that you can mostly understand without subtitles. Those are the ones suitable to your level and you can benefit the most from.

Love this interview - was very funny and good to hear someone who is fluent (in ways of speaking), but due to living in different environment not being exposed to much vocab. Max 我佩服你 🙌加油 🗣

那么可爱！Being able to compare both teaching systems is very interesting. I am Spanish but my mother is French and I would spend 1-2 weeks at the French elementary school in her home town every year before we returned home so I could compare both teaching systems. Math and language levels were higher in Spain but I prefered how History was taught in France.
I liked this video, I can't not believe I understood 80%. This encourage me to continue with my classes some time you feel you are not making any progress thank you very much..

Not really. Although Hubei dialects belong to the Mandarin family, but they still sound quite different from Putonghua:)

Nice. My son and daughter also attended normal public schools in Taiwan for 5 days. My daughter also said the food is the best part haha. Westerners don't really care about healthy whole foods while in Chinese culture food is so important so they never skimp on food. So funny they have similar experiences.

jiujiu is the brother of your mother. Shushu is the brother of your father.
