Holy crap. I never knew how divided the DR fanbase was for the ending of V3. I think a lot of people misinterpreted it, though. Granted, I also didn't like it very much for the reason that it went too far. It was surely too crazy for it's own good. Compared to DR2 which was a modest type of crazy, V3 felt as if it threw everything the franchise had established out the window. While the ending was indeed iffy, I will give props to this ending for its upsides: The game went to uncharted territory, and tackled a theme that is never touched upon. The moral of the ending from what I understood was that fiction impacts reality. This couldn't be any more true. In this day and age, fiction is vital to reality. Even if nothing of it is ultimately real, these games, movies, TV, books, they all had an impact on each and every one of us. Fiction is more than just fiction now. Imagine where we would all be in a world without fiction. It's impossible to conceive because there couldn't possibly be a world without fiction. Fiction makes up a part of the world. These stories, these worlds, these characters, where the hell would we all be without them? They define us and are a part of us forever. We identify with them because as stated, fiction isn't just fiction anymore. They're not just stories or tales meant solely for the sake of entertaining people. These characters are in a way real. They possess heart, have their own souls, and are human just as much as we all are. They're self-aware. They are our idols, our friends, our family, and... well, sometimes our lovers. That was the true point of the ending to V3 aside the theme of the truth vs. lies. Kodaka and the team weren't trying to tell us that they're ending the series because they're tired of it. The characters aren't ending the game because they're fed up with the suffering they've been put through. It's the complete opposite. Kodaka did what he did in order to thank us for supporting the series. He knows just how passionate the fans of the series can be and acknowledged it in his own twisted way. If the world were to become hypothetically obsessed with DR, that's what would happen in the series. He is aware of just how much we love his work, his world, and his characters. I didn't really mind the fact that all the past games were fiction. I'm just pissed off because I feel the trial 6 twist really threw the game itself out the window. All the character development, tears I shed playing this game, feelings of sadness I felt were all for nothing because the whole game was just a fucking fake TV show/series and all these characters are fake. Then in this epilogue the game tries to make up for it by implying "actually its possible tsumugi was lying" or imply that you should leave it to interpretation but there's just no way you can recover from this bullshit twist. And yeah after watching some videos I do understand the theme of "fiction impacting reality" and I think its cool but like... I always understood this. It's the reason I play video games (mainly JRPGs) and enjoy them a lot. I didn't really need this game to tell me this. I feel like this game could have kept this similar theme without throwing all of its built up story out the window. Because now it feels like all the story before the 6th trial twist was made just so this twist can happen and the theme can be explained. And because of that, the whole "fiction vs. reality" theme feels super lazily implemented.
The more I rewatch this ending, the more convinced I become that Tsumugi was lying about the vast majority of stuff in Case 6. Too many things don't add up, and what's more it feels like they _deliberately_ don't add up.
Well, here's what I have identified (a combination of my own examination and stuff gathered from TVTropes): - The audition videos. If she was trying to break the students' spirit by showing them videos of themselves before being brainwashed, then why did she only have tapes related to Shuichi and the tapes that would affect her? Where's the video of shy, timid Maki being pressured into volunteering by her fellow students? Where's the video of hyperactive Himiko talking about all the cool murders an Ultimate Magician could pull off? Only Shuichi got this treatment, as if she had specifically prepared them to counter the person she thought would be the biggest obstacle. - The textbook about Hope's Peak Academy. I get why someone might write a textbook about the _Danganronpa_ series if it really is as big as they say, but how could you write a book about such a series without explicitly mentioning the fact that it's a TV show? Shuichi mentioned that it was well-researched and had lots of contributors; and even if it was supposed to be an in-universe book (like one of those "guidebooks" from certain franchises that are supposed to be written by the characters), there would legally have to be a disclaimer inside saying something like "This is a work of fiction", which I highly doubt Shuichi, the Ultimate Detective, would have missed. - Cospox. The central reason Tsumugi used to convince the students that Hope's Peak is fictional is that she's able to cosplay as characters from the first two games without getting cospox...except that this opens up a whole new can of worms. The reason we found out about her condition was from her cosplaying as Kaede in Chapter 1...except that, as the game goes out of its way to explain, the characters in this game are fictional, and thus wouldn't trigger the cospox. The fact that she got a reaction means that Kaede and the other students are real after all, and/or that Tsumugi was making the entire thing up. - Actually, everything about cospox is sketchy as hell. Aside from the fact that cospox is a completely ridiculous concept (how would her body know whether or not the person she was imitating really existed?), the scene with Tsumugi and Kaede has Tsumugi ask Kaede to close her eyes while she changes clothes. This seems pretty normal at first...except that, as we see in the final trial, Tsumugi can literally change clothes faster than the human eye can follow. So why did it take several seconds for her to change in Chapter 1? I'd argue because she was applying the makeup to herself in order to fake the cospox symptoms. - The game's themes. The entire game is built around truth and lies, and honestly it feels a little weird that a game like that would just give us all the answers at the end, with no deception. I would not at all be surprised if the next game (be it Danganronpa 4, Danganronpa 5, or Danganronpa V4) revealed that some or most of what Tsumugi said was a lie; after all, if any game would do that... - And most damningly, *the opening scene.* This is the big one, because Kodaka specifically said that rewatching the prologue after finishing the game would reveal something (sadly, I don't have a link for this, so I guess it's possible that too is a lie; dammit, Oma!). And the thing is, that scene where it flashes back to the prologue in Chapter 6, allegedly revealing that the characters were actually excited to have been chosen? _That's not how the scene plays out._ If it was something tacked on to the end of a conversation, that would be one thing, but that line of dialogue is literally skipped in the actual scene; it goes directly from Monokid's line about breaking the seal to Monotaro's line about the Flashback Light, without any possibility for the excited dialogue Tsumugi claims was there. This means there are two possibilities: either there are some _Zero Time Dilemma_ levels of camera editing bullshit going on, or the flashback in Chapter 6 was (say it with me) a lie. And when you pull on one lie, the entire premise begins to fall apart.
I think if they were to continue this, they should make an anime just like D3 to continue the story of Danganronpa and D2. I think they'll be able to make a good story line and especially since that it's basically just them three

To cliche and predictable I wouldve liked it better if they got the killer or something along those lines wrong and they all ended up dying but as shuichi wakes up he see all of his friends and kaede waiting for him in heaven
This ending makes me feel like, it they made another Danganronpa game, it would be something totally different. It would include Himiko, Maki, and Shuichi for sure. It might be about them getting to know the outside world, with some odd mystery to solve, or something like UDG. It just makes my brain start working.
E W Y i actually think it was meant to be like this. I mean if you think about it, these three lost the one they love the most. Himiko lost angie and tenko, maki lost kaito, and saihara lost kaede. It just hits me when i realized it so im glad these three survived the killing game.

I think that's a gamemode in game called 'Ultimate Talent Development Program' where tou play as any character but tbh it's not a complete game so yes an anime would be very nice

I've always loved Danganronpa, but now that I watched this, everything's different. It's like the deceased characters can finally be put to rest, like they can have hope that everything will be okay. It feels like I have hope. This actually had a huge impact on me, like many other people. There are people like me who aren't in good situations, that wish they can die. But this helped me power through, and everything's better now. Anybody who's reading this now, who has depression or is suicidal, everything's going to get better. Just hoping can help raise you'r confidence. Don't worry, there are people that love you.

I'm so mad that only three people survived this time like I thought it should have been Shuichi, Maki, Himiko, Kikochi (just cuz we gotta have that asshole, like Byakuya), and Gonta (he was tooooooooo nice and honest to die).
My first takeaway from the entire ending of this game was almost like a Five Nights at Freddy's effect. The series got too big for the creators, they just couldn't keep up with the demand for these games. But then again, why would you have a team DEDICATED to DR? I don't know, I feel like this isn't the end of the franchise, but then again, that might just be denial. This is one serious mindf*** of an ending.
GreenEchoGaming I agree. This game really does have the Five Nights At Freddy's effect, and Danganronpa really is a popular game. However, considering the ending to this game (and also Fnafs endings) there is more to come from both franchisees.

I hate this ending. I absolutely loathe it. Its only "Optimistic" because the Danganronpa world being real is something WE want. Why should the characters want that world? Why would they hope that the real world isnt one where no despair and fighting exist? They are hopeful that Tsumugi might be lying because WE want it to be a lie. WE like Danganronpa and we would want that world to be real. So the hint that Remnants of Despair and Hopes Peak might exist is only what WE want. It makes no sense why the characters would want it.
Vorile DeWise I don't think the nessicarily want the world of Danganronpa to be real. They just want to find out what exist outside of the dome and offically seperate the truth from the lies.
A theory I found, that I may rephrase at bits may make this ending a bit more bearable to the ones that did not like it: Maybe tsumugi wasnt lying but in fact didn't know the truth of the matter. Or this was set long ago into the future, where the first two killing games were passed down as stories. May have missed a couple points but you kinda get the premise, I hope. Either way, it's up to player opinion. If you wanna disregard this series' ending go ahead. The last entries will remain unchanged in that regard, since this is so far apart from those two and the anime.

It's not possible Tsumugi lived. Blood splattered everywhere, besides K1-B0 killed her also betraying her letting the others live. She got crushed by a giant boulder with Monokuma. Danganronpa Wiki says she didn't survive her punishment.

If there would be another Danganronpa game I could probably see a prequel to V3 where you experience RANtaro's killing game or an anime/manga adaptation of his killing game.
I sorta have this theory that the reason they all wanted to participate was because it wasn't real. The deaths weren't real either, all just this realistic simulation. The pain is real, mental and physical, but in the end you're still alive.

I'd like it if Spike Chunsoft makes a direct sequel of this visual novel. However, it's no longer a killing game visual novel. The plot is about this: Team danganronpa, before the events on season 53 actually wants to make a new season. However, the preparation takes so long so the first stage audition is done during the airing of Danganronpa. The main character wants to play danganronpa, too. However, after the conclusion of the season 53, the show was cancelled. There is also a news about the appearance of 3 characters from Danganronpa season 53. The main character finally meets one of the character from Danganronpa. They then seeks to find out how Danganronpa world works. The game maintains the class trial mechanics, but otherwise is pacifist. No one dies in the game. As a stark contrast from the last 3 danganronpa entries.
Wow, out of all 16, only 3 made it out alive. Characters that you maade connections with, gone.. Miu Gonta Kaito Kirumi Kaede Keebo Tenko Angie Characters that all had connections to the surviving 3 or had a big impact on the game

This ending makes me feel like, it they made another Danganronpa game, it would be something totally different. It would include Himiko, Maki, and Shuichi for sure. It might be about them getting to know the outside world, with some odd mystery to solve, or something like UDG. It just makes my brain start working.

I've always loved Danganronpa, but now that I watched this, everything's different. It's like the deceased characters can finally be put to rest, like they can have hope that everything will be okay. It feels like I have hope. This actually had a huge impact on me, like many other people. There are people like me who aren't in good situations, that wish they can die. But this helped me power through, and everything's better now. Anybody who's reading this now, who has depression or is suicidal, everything's going to get better. Just hoping can help raise you'r confidence. Don't worry, there are people that love you.
I almost cried during this. This may be the last game but I will forever love Danganronpa. And I'm super happy that Himiko lived :3

I'm so mad that only three people survived this time like I thought it should have been Shuichi, Maki, Himiko, Kikochi (just cuz we gotta have that asshole, like Byakuya), and Gonta (he was tooooooooo nice and honest to die).
My first takeaway from the entire ending of this game was almost like a Five Nights at Freddy's effect. The series got too big for the creators, they just couldn't keep up with the demand for these games. But then again, why would you have a team DEDICATED to DR? I don't know, I feel like this isn't the end of the franchise, but then again, that might just be denial. This is one serious mindf*** of an ending.
GreenEchoGaming I agree. This game really does have the Five Nights At Freddy's effect, and Danganronpa really is a popular game. However, considering the ending to this game (and also Fnafs endings) there is more to come from both franchisees.
But, we'd have to wait a few years for anything from either of them.

Its only "Optimistic" because the Danganronpa world being real is something WE want. Why should the characters want that world? Why would they hope that the real world isnt one where no despair and fighting exist?
They are hopeful that Tsumugi might be lying because WE want it to be a lie. WE like Danganronpa and we would want that world to be real. So the hint that Remnants of Despair and Hopes Peak might exist is only what WE want. It makes no sense why the characters would want it.

A theory I found, that I may rephrase at bits may make this ending a bit more bearable to the ones that did not like it:
Maybe tsumugi wasnt lying but in fact didn't know the truth of the matter. Or this was set long ago into the future, where the first two killing games were passed down as stories. May have missed a couple points but you kinda get the premise, I hope.
Either way, it's up to player opinion. If you wanna disregard this series' ending go ahead. The last entries will remain unchanged in that regard, since this is so far apart from those two and the anime.

It's not possible Tsumugi lived. Blood splattered everywhere, besides K1-B0 killed her also betraying her letting the others live. She got crushed by a giant boulder with Monokuma. Danganronpa Wiki says she didn't survive her punishment.

I sorta have this theory that the reason they all wanted to participate was because it wasn't real. The deaths weren't real either, all just this realistic simulation. The pain is real, mental and physical, but in the end you're still alive.

I'd like it if Spike Chunsoft makes a direct sequel of this visual novel. However, it's no longer a killing game visual novel. The plot is about this:
Team danganronpa, before the events on season 53 actually wants to make a new season. However, the preparation takes so long so the first stage audition is done during the airing of Danganronpa. The main character wants to play danganronpa, too. However, after the conclusion of the season 53, the show was cancelled. There is also a news about the appearance of 3 characters from Danganronpa season 53. The main character finally meets one of the character from Danganronpa. They then seeks to find out how Danganronpa world works.
The game maintains the class trial mechanics, but otherwise is pacifist. No one dies in the game. As a stark contrast from the last 3 danganronpa entries.
