Something that I noticed on a recent watchthrough that I really enjoyed, is that when Lillia says 'I know what I did wrong' she turns around we we flash back to the trial. In all the other flashes around time she is shocked or falling or confused, but this time she's in control. To me it comes across as this acceptance and newfound confidence that her abilities do have the opportunity to help people which I just love
I love how magick is portrayed in this show! In the MCU! Where too often powers are shown with people just blasting each other. Yes, it's still there, but then you see how Lilia wields it (how the creators wrote it)! We need so much more of this.
When you watch Lilia at the end giving advice to the rest of the coven, she gives Agatha courage, Billy/William/Teen a brain (his spellbook), and Jen heart. One more small nod to the Wizard of Oz.
Lilia took control of her narrative, saved her friends, gave them knowledge and told 5 of the Salem 7* "No, this ends HERE for you." - SHE WAS MAGNIFICENT. LuPone was MAGNIFICENT. *Only 5 of the 7 died on the swords so there are 2 left in play.
glad your video was recommended to me, your discussions are super thoughtful and on par with lots of "top tier" TV/movie review content, and kudos for keeping those tears in, i'm sure that wasn't easy :) Amma go through your channel now, bye ;)
Excellent episode. Probably some of the greatest work the MCU has ever put out no hyperbole. Side Note: Fans of the series Lost will notice a couple of Easter eggs and tip of the cap to that series in this episode. And I do not think that is a coincidence. ✌🏾✌🏾
This episode had me in SHAMBLES 😭 and I also love the fact that they were planting this seeds of Lilia’s premonitions throughout the show in a way that lets us know what’s being done but we don’t know when it pays off, and when it happens you’re pleasantly surprised ❤
Agreed! I thought it was so much fun they were using Tarot cards to tell the story but then to connect them all together at the end was unbelievably good!
This episode also showed why Lillia couldn’t do anything to prevent William Kaplan death like she couldn’t prevent her own coven or even herself because as her maestro told her, Lillia job is not to control but to see.
The colors in each challenge match the specific element/witch, and the leaves on the path leading to each challenge. And after rewatching the series, matches the color of their visions in episode 3 (the hallucinations in the potions trial). Lilia's is yellow, Jen is blue, Alice is orange, and of course, Agatha is purple.
The last time TV hurt my heart this much was Vision: "What is grief, if not love persevering". The nonchalant shrug of Lilie's teacher and 'Death comes for us all' was such a beautiful calming truth. Unrelated to anything, Lilie's last name 'Caldero' means 'cauldron' in both Spanish and Corsican. I assume she is Corsican for some reason.
@@WelcomeToTheWritersRoom I don't know them all but 'Rio Vidal' means 'River of Life' or 'River of Vitality'. There's a big weird clue for you. I assume Green Witch/Death might be a sort of Ouroboros kind of life and death.
Agh!! This episode is really good! Something interesting is that in Tarot, the Death card represents Rebirth which fits Lilia's Destination. The image of the Death Card hints at this, because the figure in the card holds a knife in the left and a flower in the right which mirrors Rio's pose and perfectly encapsulates Mortality.
@@WelcomeToTheWritersRoom i immediately subscribed after listening to the video. Please keep on uploading and you both deserve more exposure to the public. The two of you have so much substance and very endearing. ❤️
I currently think Rio is/created the witches road and Agatha knows it is a trap. I think Agatha showed such extreme cowardice that Rio knew she could manipulate her to do her bidding. Rio accepted Agatha as she was and just encouraged her to be toxic. I think one of the twists will be that Agatha can do more than siphon spirits, she can be a vessel as well but she has to overcome her own trauma AND earn the trust of her coven to allow themselves to “give up the ghost” to trick Rio and defeat the road. Agatha has three swords through the heart, which is often covered with the maiden mother crone broach-tragedy as an unloved daughter, a mother who lost a child, left depowered and trapped in a delusion by a younger woman. I hope Agatha doesn’t also die at the end, but I think allowing herself to be vulnerable will be the key to unlocking her internal power.

I’m starting to think she walked the road to get her son back but received the Darkhold instead. It would contextualise her hallucination in the potion trial.
I really like that theory! Agatha is such a nuanced character that I doubt they would just write her to make such a harsh decision without more to the story. This would make a lot of sense for the plot and her character!
Something just hit me when you said 'maybe Rio killed everyone...' What if that IS the road. What if the road and Death are linked, which is why Rio also hates Agatha, because she possibly cheated the road and escaped Death.
I've always thought the episode was awesome. But after watching your analysis, I realized how I just couldn't fully grasp the full genius of the writing. Thx lol
I don't think Jen is going to die because it would be a very messed up thing for Lilia to do to her she convinced Jen to keep going on with her on the road and told her she was the path forward and I don't think that would mean for her to sacrifice herself for the others because it took Lilia centuries to come to terms with her own death I don't think she would do that to Jen
just a side note here, why does the trial in the what seems to be a morg is purple? could it be Agatha's true trail? and if so? what was the trail in episode 5 for?
I hadn't even thought of that! I think the creator of the show came out and said something about how the trial was legitimate and truly Agatha's trial. I'm really thinking this last trial in the morgue is Billy/Teen's considering he is dealing with the trauma of dying and coming back to life as Billy and not really knowing who he is. It is odd to me that the morgue is purple though! They've been really specific about the colors they use in each trial/on the road, so maybe!!!!!
Such a great episode! Glad those tarot cards had such a huge payoff in the end! I think something they’re doing so well throughout the series is sort of double-writing. I noticed it in Lilia’s tarot reading: not only does everything fit into place here for an awesome reveal, but each card also contextually makes sense in the scene when they’re first revealed. Same with the black heart on the coven list. They lead us(and Agatha) to believe it’s Rio, so she tries to subvert it by convincing the coven it’s Sharon/Mrs. Hart. And then it turns out to be Billy, and Lilia can’t write his name because of the sigil. Very smart writing! Also, in a way, each of them has “cheated” death before, not just Billy. Agatha escaped her execution by activating her power. Alice would have burnt to a crisp if not for Lorna’s protection spell. Lilia is the sole survivor of the plague that wiped-out her coven. And Jen was drowned by the doctor. From Lilia’s reading, “unwilling or unable to use it”, I think Jen will realize that she unintentionally bound herself from the trauma (continuing the Wizard of Oz, “you had what you needed all along” theme). Jen also had so much growth this episode actually being there for Lilia and the “I’m not going before you,” when she literally shoved Lilia out of the way to get into the oven in the first trial. I imagine next episode, we’ll conclude her arc and she’ll sacrifice herself for them to progress, BUT that’s also the arc they’ve set-up for Agatha in turn: Sacrificing her power/life to propel a surrogate son forward as in inverse to what happened with Nicholas Scratch. Which leaves me hopeful that maybe we’ll have the full coven returned at the end of the road. Death is a cosmic force, and the story thus far seems to be more about coming-to-terms because you can’t really overpower Death. Since they’ve made her the “original Green Witch”, I think she’ll take-on the Death tarot card’s associations of ending-a-cycle and rebirth. Looking forward to the finale!
I have chills reading this comment!!!!! Wow such amazing points, and I keep falling more and more in love with this show. The writing is so clever and thought out. I love how you described it as "double writing" - that is such a great way to put it. I cannot wait to see the finale!!!!

I think the lack of certainty is tied to Elizabeth Olsen, they don't know if they can get her to come back. She did say she was open to it, but they have to write better storylines for her character.
