Thank you for highlighting the PTA career! I graduated PTA school in 1994 at Medical College of Georgia. It’s been a very rewarding profession. I have always felt the APTA lacked support for the PTA career. There is very little growth path, certification of specialist, and no path to a higher degree as with an RN program. It’s a great position that deserves some attention!

I’m finishing up my BSc in Kin, working at my university as a Residence Don, Varsity Student Therapist, and a PTA at my hometown in the summer. Getting into PT programs in Canada is super competitive and challenging, but I think the career is fulfilling and worth the work.

It's definitely fulfilling but I've found that you almost sign yourself up for indentured servitude to the system when your student loan costs are high and job oppurtunies are scarce.
I keep getting told that it's high value education and a job that's in high demand but frankly if that's the case then why is our positions as Kins/PTA/OTA being constantly being replaced by lpns or other fields that are inadequate compared to our training.
I've found after discovering some self respect in regards to my own value I simply refuse to work for pennies above min wage after I've spent dozens of thousands on education.

A decent job helping decent people! My bud had an x-ray today (I didn't know her arm was bothering her) I told her if it's a muscle or arthritis it won't show up (as confirmed by my PT), so far she's only replied with radio silence! 🤔 Full moon this Sat/Easter's 🐣 always 1st Sun after April's 1st full moon (it's possible there'd be 2).

Perhaps this is a different situation in the states but at least in Canada I honestly cannot in good faith recommend the PTA/OTA program. After graduating and having multiple years experience as a psw and working closely with intervention plans in the past.
The private sector for this in Canada is almost laughable where you can expect to pay a sizable amount of money for a course and be offered pennies above minimum wage with next to no advancement.
As for the hospital/union jobs that's also a mess here as well, PTA/OTA positions are majorly undervalued and these positions are often internally offered to lpn's.

I don’t think the career is quite as good as the video makes it sound in the states. As they mentioned to be a PT, it requires a doctorate. 7 years of university isn’t cheap and it’s very competitive. Then people from India (or other places) who don’t have anywhere near the education requirements come in and get the license and keep wages down.

@@jerryyoung6494 I agree 100% the market is saturated with debatable morality practices. Just saw that I had a typo in my original comment.

My daughter wanted to be a PTA so badly. She’s 32 and got he Bach of Science degree years ago but couldn’t afford to do PTA school and to also work and have a job to live. I wish she could have done it but not being “monied” shut her out 😭

It is very unfortunate when that hinders people from following their dreams and helping people. Wish there was a way to fix that!

Wonderful advice. I'm currently a 1st year PT student (It's a 3-year Doctorate program). Absolutely love everything about it and I'm so excited to eventually start working in the field!!
One question, coming from a newbie to the masters. In your opinion(s), what would you say is the most crucial factor to utilize when it comes to optimizing patient care outcomes?
    -Edit
One more question... What's your best piece of advice for students in PT school right now? Whether it be scholastics, clinicals, networking, etc.
