I'm almost 38, and am facing my fear of driving. It's been hard to feel like I'm going to be able to conquer it because I have trouble with smooth turns, knowing when / how much to accelerate and decelerate during them, and letting the wheel slide back. I have anxiety so my palms get sweaty and I feel like I have to grip the wheel and do more work than I need to. I wish Jacqueline was my teacher, she is so calm and explains everything slowly and precisely. These videos have been helping with my anxiousness. I'm using a driving school down the road and the first instructor I had was a very young guy, and he was nice, but didn't explain things really at all. He just kind of threw me in to neighborhood driving and I was a nervous wreck. The second instructor was much more calm, seemed like he's helped people with fears of driving and I was really comfortable with him because of how he explained things to me. The third one I had was an older woman , who was very nice, and explained things to me well, but for some reason I felt intimidated. I guess because she's got almost 60 years of experience.
Please come back and tell us how you are doing. We are all here because we face struggles with driving but I have noticed these video are really helping a lot. You got this and you will conquer your fear. I’m currently learn how to drive and my first teacher he just throw me on the road without explaining anything. It was a language barrier and I felt like I didn’t learn much. My second teacher is going to be my co- worker and she is a very calm person so I’m hoping her calmness comes across in her teaching me. I will come back to let you know how it’s going.
@@stacyreed6798 I had to give it up. My anxiety got to the point it was making me pretty sick , all day, every day. I've learned to be okay with not being able to drive. It's a medical issue I've dealt with for 32 years. I walked to work for a decade, when I have to do it again, I will. For now I've got a steady ride, and probably will for at least a few more years. Anxiety truly sucks... and getting rid of a trigger is something a lot of us have to do, but I'm still proud of myself for going to that driving school - No one can honestly say I've never tried. I hope you do well and your coworker is a great teacher

may sound stupid for some but i've been practicing these with my g920 ("gaming" wheel) and it does help a lot, my teacher was actually surprised by how i was already holding/using the wheel "properly" thanks to you and the practice i've done at home. Obviously nothing comes even close to the real thing but building the right habits from the start does help a lot when put into the real situation i feel (at least for me it helped)
Thanks so much for keeping the camera on you, so we can see exactly how you see the streets in front of you. A lot of other TH-camrs in the middle which isn't realistic. Thanks a lot

Same. Or he says stuff like “go,go, gooo pretty girl”. Or he will say quick, quick then will say slow down. No clear instructions. He also grabs at me and the wheel during lesson.
@@wherefreespiritsroam well, if he grab the wheel during thw steering that just means he have to take control of the wheel. It is necessary. While the other statement is something i fed up too😅
Hello Jacqueline. Thanks a bunch for this video and all the other ones i have watched so far. ❤ I looove how you clearly explain everything. Blessings for you!
i had the first half of my 6 hours today and i did so bad with steering and the wheel lol, i was so close to the left or too far right and i did bad with the wheel
The problem I’m having is the turning of the steering wheel making a U-Turn, left side or right side. I want to give up but I don’t want to because I will feel like I let my family down. God help me😢
Hi, I was wondering, could you go over how to do the steering technique with putting your opposite hand over the hand you’re holding the steering wheel with because I’m a bit confused on that one?
Thank you for the positive feedback! 😊 Good luck on your driving test!🤞 You've put in the time and effort to prepare, and we're confident you'll do great.
Been driving since the 70’s. Only 1 wreck my fault and that was going around unknown curve too fast in wet conditions. Other thing was more an incident. Half a log in lodged from under a big truck and flew across the road at me. I ran over it and destroyed my tires. Anyways, all this in cb ing the wheel looks like too much work. We did the hand over and it was so much smoother. Still do a version of it today.
when my friend was teaching me how to practice driving i was pressing the gas to much plus on the red stop signs i was pressing the brake to much what are some advice ?
i’m 20 just got my car and my driving anxiety is through the roof and theirs some techniques i need to brush up on i just hope i get over this anxious feeling
When you see you have a right turn in front of you then you turn your steering wheel about 180° from its normal position which is 9-15. When you have to change the lane from right to left, then you turn your steering wheel about 90° from its normal position. Am I right?
I swear I felt the EXACT same way. I cried in the car and told myself I would never be able to try. That I would fail my driving test thousands of times. But practice and do it slowly at first. You can do this.
i recommend having someone to drive you to a big empty parking lot and practice steering, parking, and throttle control. thats how I build my confidence up and I just started to drive recently. you guys definitely got this!!!
Not all drivers follow the 10-10 position in driving, it depends in the individual skill of the driver. For me driving the car with Left hand on the steering wheel while Right hand is on the transmission lever, in this way your mind is not only focus in the steering wheel but on the car as a whole, because in case of emergency your mind will know immediately what to do first, not unlike the 10-10 position your mind is divided to which direction you going to steer.
I am from the Netherlands and was taught the 10 - 14 o'clock position. But it's nice to see the advantage of the 9 - 15 position too. It seems to allow the push/pull technique a bit more. Though, it does seem to be less safe as the steering wheel in this video is blocking a former feel if required sure to its design. I've never encountered a pot hole, so it's not necessary to keep your thumbs from grabbing the wheel. In case of emergency, i can imagine you would want to really grab the wheel and have control over it. At 9-15 and thumbs out with this wheel design might make that lots harder to do and may even cause you to slip your hands of of the wheel? /rant, what i am basically asking, is there a good reason for 9-15 and not 10-14?
Both the 9-3 and 10-2 hand positions have their merits. The 9-3 position provides more leverage for the push-pull technique and allows for smoother turns. However, it's important to note that some modern cars have airbags located in the center of the steering wheel, which can be a safety concern for the thumbs-in position. In such cases, the 9-3 position is recommended. Ultimately, the best hand position may vary based on individual comfort and the specific features of the vehicle. It's essential to choose a position that allows for safe and controlled steering.
This method is called Push Pull method it is the standard method in UK but not in EU. The EU safe driving technic is called scissors method or the cross hand method. When you turn hard left or hard right and leave the wheel to do it's own work, what if the steering mechanism fails and wheel don't return at it's own, can you afford to risk the safety of your occupants? Even the most reliable mechanism may fail at times.
