- Hi everyone, here's a quick tour of the new sampling method Yamaha has introduced with the new Yamaha PSR-E473 and PSR-EW425. It's quite different from the previous incarnation (not saying it's better or worse, just different). Either way it's impressive for an entry-level keyboard.

This year, Yamaha made a better Casiotone than Casio did 🥳 This thing looks amazing!
Don't get me wrong, it's an amazing improvement on effects, but the sample zones were a god send for dance stabs, live loop drum loops to play to and synth sampling. Gear faces made some amazing usb sample packs for distribution too but now Yamaha have taken that Casio sampling creativity and nostalgia away. I am on the verge of purchasing the MC 707 to couple with my old Roland synth.
Good comment and thanks for trying out my samples, glad you liked them :)
Is there a way to loop/sequence voices ? Or is it possible to quick sample voices ?
This is the coolest Yamaha keyboard ever!!!!😎
So.. what's that for? What's the point? Sampling generally refers to the ability to lay the sound across the keys for transformation of the sample, otherwise it's just a recorder for 4 sounds. ?
The only applications I can see are 1. to play short phrases effortlessly (one time through, as you can't do a synchronized loop) and 2. to play sound effects for stage shows, like I do. Still not my first choice of keyboard though :)
Thanks Glen. The fact that we cannot play samples on the keyboard!!!! What has Yamaha been smoking?? The Casio cts1000v allows chromatic keyboard playing and another set for independent drum samples for each key
Agree. Bad move from Yamaha here.
@@HubertEtAlice Very bad move indeed!!!
Im new to the keyboard , so it isnt possible to record let say something i play on drumkit ? I want to loop a kicdrum / snare i made myself , and wanted to use the sampler. Us there another way to loop a drum pattern i make myself ?
I'm Getting Exited. And i saw at the end the samples from the preveous model failed to load. I enjoyed the video. i;m hoping to see more. and do a styles demo too.
Cool stuff, a other way in comparing to my ctx phrase pads, nice to play with, but live i prefer the settings of measure no. / time sync and loop... Two concepts, the filters are great and the opp. of mic rec to the pads! Keep on groov'n _ Dj_Akey 😎
Did you see the new casiotone CT-S1000?, looks very interesting
Great, now I can make my keyboard play the most heinous stuff.
Oh yes, you can take it to places I’m sure Yamaha never intended ;-)
Did you ever find out why QSF samples created on created and saved on other keyboards will not open on the Yamaha PSR-EW425 keyboard? I have some samples saved in QSF format that I would like hear and possible use on my Yamaha PSR-EW410.
I have no idea why! It seems like they did it deliberately.
Still going to get it
Next video is about it's synth editing capabilities - pretty nice :)
Hi, there. Thanks for the sampling video, it's a great help. I'm about to upgrade to the PSR-EW425. I've been wanting the arpeggio feature for a looong time, but I can't find any demonstrations on how it works on this keyboard. Won't you please do a video on it for us?
Its fairly simple - you should see a key marked "Arpeggiator" (or similar) in the top left cluster of buttons. Press once to turn the Arpeggiator on. You'll hear nothing different though, until you hold that same button down for a couple of seconds. Then turn the dial and you see the value change on the display - you need to select something over 20 to hear arpeggios (1-20 are harmony settings, not arpeggios). I think that's all correct, but let me know if you have any problems :)
Righto, thanks. I'll keep you posted.
Hi Glynn nice video. What on Earth were they thinking of at Yamaha when they decided to dump the possibility to play the samples from the keyboard? It was one of the nicest functions in the PSR E463 as you demonstrated in previous videos. These sample pads are just a gimmick really. Big disappointment ☹️
I know. I used the chomatic sampling for dance stabs creation and lived part/drum looping whilst playing along.
I was thinking about moving to the Roland mc707 though 😍
I just quickly looked up this feature on the EW410. So you can record external audio to the keyboard and then play it back on any key (with a different pitch) and this feature is not possible on the coming keyboard anymore?
@@MidtownMadness1 Indeed it isn’t. Bad move from Yamaha there. If you’re after sample playback on the whole range of the keyboard, you’d better go have a look at the Casio’s CT-S500 and CT-S1000V.
What a pity they dumped the keyboard sample function...but the on board sounds are top quality.
Hi mate. I tried to check out the internal memory on this thing but i see only one file, some kind of backup file. Can you do a show on the E473 with a computer. load songs etc. Sounds etc. What can you do with a pc and A 473?
At one point this past year I figured I could have bought a MODX. But when I upgrade to a pro level keyboard I'll forget Yamaha. They half-ass too much, but charge a premium. They added what should have been in the previous model and loaded the same old songs in the groove creator. Oh well, after the Chinese invade Japan we'll all be playing Medelis.
I'm really excited about this! Does it have a stereo line output?
👍 yep
@@gearfacts awesome! So i'm just a bit worried if the output is combined with the headphones
i noticed the sampling just limit to pad and not work on keys :( what do now..
is go back for buying psr e463 have worth? for just this limitation on sampling?
i must go to buy e463 against 473 or no..?
but that e463 keyboard pianos and other sounds i think is not good as e473 what do now :/
or at least can we add sound from computer for sampling on keys? if it's possible it's good
because i want load some children at my home voice to keys and that child play keys and make music with his voice and have fun :)
I had more fun with the PSR-E463 and chose it in the end. The 473 does sound a bit more professional though.
So we can only use samples on the 4 buttons, and can't set it to the actual keys? I've seen a lot of older keyboards allowing for setting samples to the keys and changing the pitch based on which key you press.... For a keyboard this new, I'm pretty disappointed with this missing feature.
Me too
Whod have thought a mic could have done that great improvisation.
How long are each samples and can you store them please
Samples can be about 9.5 seconds max I think, and yes you can store them as WAV or ‘QSF’ files
How long is Sampling time for this keyboard?
Great video. Is the tempo adjustable in playing the samples back in loop mode? Thanks.
Glad you liked the video! But sadly no, the sample looping doesn't change with the tempo :/
Thanks for getting back to me. So one shot is the only application of the sampling feature? Unless we record and playback the audio files and music in the same tempo as the Quick sampler Loop tempo.!!
Can you do mapping keys on random recorded voices you like?
You can't play samples with keys at all :(
Is it possible to record a short phrase played on the keyboard itself into the pads?
I don’t think so, but they might update the firmware for that feature at a later time
Is there a way to use the keys for samples or is it only the pads?
Pads only, sadly.
Shit 😂
Agreed
Hi
The sampling sound is too loud whereas the key sounds are too weak barely heard.
How to soften the samplings sound while increasing the keys sound?
Volume knob will reduce soften both.
You can adjust the input volume. I think there’s a small knob on the back for that or you can go into the function menu and adjust sampling input.
The initial built-in samples are nice, will keep them, but way too loud, useless.
Can you resort Yamaha factory samples if you override them at any moment ?
Yes, I think you turn it on while holding down the highest note. I think :)
@@gearfacts damn. I think part is scary lol
How many recording banks does Roland go keys 61 have? Can we loop our own playings in that?
It can’t do any
of those things, it’s really only for live play
@@gearfacts ohh, alright sir
Sir i have a doubt about Yamaha psr e373 i.e there's a function in some keyboard that we can see what notes we're playing which is not found on e373,is that really much important?
Personally I don’t this it’s important, no :)
@@gearfacts ok thankyou bruh✨
Hello! Is it possible to tap and play the sample once and let it play until it's finished without holding it?
Yes, you can set the samples to one-touch mode
How do I record a track and set it to loop on the keyboard? Normally I do it on the computer..
I've got the Yamaha: PSR-E473.
I have not found a solution for this problem sorry. I hope Yamaha releases an update or an editor to make it possible.
Wait. You can't map the samples to the keyboard?
Nope. I just checked into the manual 😢
@@HubertEtAlice it’s a big big no for me then.
Im new to the keyboard , so it isnt possible to record let say something i play on drumkit ? I want to loop a kicdrum / snare i made myself , and wanted to use the sampler. Us there another way to loop a drum pattern i make myself ?
No, it has to be recorded externally or imported as a wav file.
@@gearfacts ok thanks for clearing it up
what about playing the Samples accross the keyboard?
It cannot be done :(
Bought the PSR-EW425 today - can't get a WAV to play from my flash drive (it is correctly formatted) - I go through the process and it says "TooLong" when I hit enter. Why would this happen? The same WAV plays perfectly (on a different flash drive) on my Korg EK-50. Any help would be appreciated.
It sounds like there's a limit on how long your song (wave file) can be. I'd look at the manual (google PSR-E473 PDF)
@@gearfacts - thank you for your reply. I found out I needed to re-convert my WAV files from 32 bit to 16 bit. Both physical and Yamaha site manuals were useless to finding this out.
@@RedEyeC huh, I did not know that. Something to remember about the PSRE473 :)
@@gearfacts - if your WAV's are in 24bit or 32bit, the freeware Audacity can change them easily.
This is a decent keyboard for the price
I agree.
I heard 473 has an LCD factory problem and no one is talking about it
I didn't have any problems with the screen.
Does anyone know if its possible to quick sample voices ? Because i want to loop/sequence voices (of drumkit) but cant find anything about it
You can easily sample or import sound files but only to the four buttons, not the keys.
@@gearfacts ok , but is it possiblr to sample direct from voice ?
No, it can’t sample its own output. You can *record* its output to USB as a wav file though, and then send that file (9 seconds max) to one of the buttons for one-touch replay. I think that would work.
@@gearfacts ok , im gonna check that out. Im new with keyboards so i have still a lot to figure out
Are all the effects available on the e463 as well
Only ten of them, and no delay effects :(
Hello how many samples can be loaded onto the keyboard thanks
Four.
Can you sample the keyboard
No. I've seen that capability on some other keyboards but not this one.
hello greetings I'm looking for samples for yamaha psre 473
There's probably a Facebook group that shares PSRE473 samples freely :)
HI GF , for your audience can samples be used as tones and played on the keyboard, ie c c,sharp, d, d sharp.
Oops looks like commentor has answered the question
No but it's a valid question and a lot of people have raised it. I have not yet found a way to assign samples to the keys ...but I'm losing hope. (Yamaha didn't provide me a with a manual and it doesn't seem to be available online yet)
Backward compatibility! Argh!
I don't normally use acronyms but ...IKR!!
Possible to sample as a tone???????
Nope
I exported a user song via usb, exported as a .mid and it sounds terrible!!lost all the quality from the keyboard!and sometimes it would export a .wav file as well(other times not!!)and when it did the wav file was blank,no sound on it at all..not impressed.
I noticed a few glitchy bubs like that in this test unit Yamaha sent me. Didn't make a big deal of it at the time but it seems people are still finding glitches.
@@gearfacts oh ok..I actually returned it in the end,the last time i exported a .mid it didnt export a wav file at all..the mid file was terrible still tho..getting a casio 7600 instead hope thats ok...
@@ctr-alt-del Certainly worth a try :)

How much bro
I’m guessing Yamaha will be looking for about $US450
Hey can you tell me how to get - ‘Get ready ' sample?
I think that was one of the default samples. It should be there if you do a factory reset.
@@gearfactsi have psr ew 425. I have default sample sound - sound like something like that. And i want - get ready ,now which i saw in yamaha official sample sound video. How i can get that?😢
@@sahilsiddiqui5937 Maye if you do a factory reset it will come back. I think you turn the keyboard on with the highest white key pressed down.
@@gearfacts ohh i already did it. Now i have that sample which i want. Thanks dude👍😎
