As a European I must say that for the locals it must be pretty annoying to hear the train smash it's horn and bells and have the lights go from left to right constantly every time a train comes passing through. I mean we have railroads in Europe too where the train rides along a street in a downtown area but there they don't use horns or lights or bells (only at the crossing gates and signals) because the sound of the train itself is often more than enough to make people aware, (I mean people wouldn't really just stay on the train tracks anyway)
JBtrainman As someone who's ridden both lines, unless it's the single-level Comet IB+Horizon consists which are unique to the San Joaquins (which, as of now, I haven't ridden yet), you can't tell the difference by looks alone. Both the Capitol Corridor and the San Joaquins use the same equipment overall. On the SC-44s (which ARE of European origin, actually; after all Siemens IS a German company, but has an assembly plant about 20 miles south of where I live), there is an electronic sign which indicates the terminus of that train.
I'm gonna be 100% honest here, but I was ALSO there at Jack London the very same day and I saw one of those Charger Units, I think the 3rd to last or the last one was the one I saw, but great catches too

Well, people in this country do like to sue a lot, so they may just be covering their bases like when they put really stupid warning labels on things.

You really can't, except the chargers have the destination on them.
Also, the San Joaquins change direction at Jack London Square.
And they're more handicap friendly with only one deck. It's hard to find seating on the lower deck sometimes on the doubles.
