The fact that this incredible writer/director, Emma Seligman, came almost out of nowhere and produced two hits back to back, and ISN'T a nepotism baby? At her young age?? It's just crazy and gives me hope for the movie industry again. It just shows we never know when another bright new director is gonna pop up and create something really new and fresh.
I feel like it's becoming more common now with the tools and knowledge required to start filming becoming more and more accessible
@lenah9027 Exactly. I've been seeing some very well done short films done by teenagers lately. Just using their phones and digital cameras.
I read an interview with Emma Seligman about Bottoms, and she stated that she was heavily influenced by 90’s teen movies, where most of the cast were older, so it’s part of the joke. And the anachronistic setup, being unable to tell what time period it’s from was also very purposely done.
It was confirmed it's set in present day but the anachronisms were intentional. It was funny to hear a nod to Entourage.
It took me a while to realize that Ayo delivering the juvie monologue about keeping rhe fight club running was recapping The Hunger Games. 🤭
I laughed so hard at Marshawn saying all women are evil that everyone in the theater turned to look at me 😂
From now on I'm going to start calling "What We Do In The Shadows," "Things We Do In The Dark." lmaooo

This is the only movie I saw in the theatre all summer and I love it. It was so entertaining. It was also weird because the theatre was filled with mostly women and I think mostly lesbians. I’m a straight woman, but I enjoyed it. I love weird movies (cross between Heathers and Fight Club).
Just left the movie theater for this movie and it was quite absurd but gave me quite a few chuckles from the unexpected conversations 😂. Now I'm topping my night off with wings and your review for my entertainment. Keep up the great work!
How in the heck did they get Marshawn Lynch to do this movie. Lol. He is such an odd duck and always has been (although as I watched his NFL it was clear he was a smart and good guy).
The fact he would do an LGBT movie is just amazing.
He wanted to right a wrong in the way he handled his sister coming out when he was 16. He accepted and supported her lifestyle and His walked his sister down the aisle at her wedding. His sister was super excited for him to be in this film. So, the hilarious Marshawn Lynch is Mr. G💕
He made the cast jealous because he improvised most of his lines that they wish they came up with it.
The moment and the look Nick gives Joseph at the five and a half minute mark is precious and hilarious. This is why I enjoy watching you guys and the fun dynamics you share.
I just saw it. The jokes were so absurd and dark. I especially liked the part where Josie says “loosers” the way people spell it on social media. Thumbs up!

The star football player is the same guy from the” Red, White & Royal Blue” movie 😂

Shiva Baby is much more grounded and quite stressful to watch but it does have the awkwardness that was carried over to Bottoms.

11:00 - I noticed the cage that this guy steps out of earlier in the movie, out of focus in the back of the classroom scenes. I like to think he's just kept there the whole time and only let out on occasions like this.

I went to a private hs and was the loser lesbian scholarship student. So the lack of adults (ie lord of the fly vibes) felt realistic to me.
I think the joke was that teachers let athletes do whatever they want because for some reason, the whole town cares about a football game😅
Uhhh... I know this is just my opinion, but smart and fresh wouldn't be exactly how I describe this film. Perhaps just frivolous and fun... at times. It reminds me a lot of any given SNL skit film. Plus it can get a little messy at times; as if they were pulling story ideas out of a hat, throwing things at the wall to see what stuck. I guess I somewhat wished I cared about the characters and situations a little more however I know it's just a silly comedy at heart.
I'm sure the cast and crew had a great time producing this movie, but besides a few laughs and or chuckles I'd say most audience members will remember this film as a fun film they watched with friends and not for the film itself. I'd give it 2 out of 4 ⭐'s.

I just didn't understand one thing about the ending. Jeff was the only one in the whole group who was deathly allergic to pineapple. So why did Tim (the black player) panic about pineapple juice and thank the girls for saving him? Why were the rest of the Vikings standing helplessly on the sidelines, not helping in the fight?
I was with this movie 100% up until that ridiculous murder subplot kicked in. It was too ridiculous even for a satire like this and when they started fighting and some of the players died, it just came off as unfunny and weird (in a bad way). They’re all celebrating after a bunch of parents just saw their kids die on the field. I get it’s meant to be dark comedy but to me it felt really gross.
To be fair, the parents of the rival school players weren’t there.
@@hughjazz1009 considering how competitive the team was, there’s a very good chance that at least some of the parents traveled with the players. There are a lot of parents who are more insane about the team than the actual players are

I liked this movie. I didn't know who the football player guy (the coach was) my bf informed me. The end was kind of dumb,bc they accidentally killed people lol😂 but other than that it was cute. I really like the main Two girls. Hope you Guys are doing good. Love you ❤

Update: I did watch this movie last night. I recognized one of the two best friend characters from the movie Bodies Bodies Bodies. And the other actress has beautiful Black Natural hair!
The movie was entertaining but the storyline changed into something else towards the end, which really made it like a movie for pre-teens to late teenagers. And my first time seeing comedienne Punkie Johnson, the brief scene at the table made me laugh out loud. Especially stating to the question about being out or not in high-school "I had my weave, and saying 'girl, yes...' helped me blend in". BWHAHAHAHAHAHA! One time viewing was good for me. 26oct23

No I’m with you. I saw it last night because I love Ayo from The Bear - i didn’t like how forced it was for humor. I laughed at some parts but it was like the football players reminded me of all the Kens in Barbie movie but less funnier. I appreciated the cast but def 2 out of 4 stars for me
What’s the significance of the title?
I believe it is because the lead characters are supposedly "losers/outcasts"... like bottoms of the barrel. Bottom/last picks.

Finally saw it tonight. For $4 at Alamo draft house special sale. Fight club is one of my favorite movies so that was a bonus. It would have been funnier if the quarterback was less over the top queeny. Would have been a better foil without the wink wink. Great fight sound effects.
