    Hi! I hope you all enjoyed this video of the ’One Hundred Famous Views of Edo’ from Taschen.
    Unfortunately I could not record the whole video on that specific sunny spot you will see a few times, due to limited time at that moment… But I hope it was still watchable without good lightning. I also want to apologise for the really bad audio and video quality in the outro. I really have to fix that.
    But thank you all for watching and have a good day! :-)

    It's a traditional hand sewn Japanese binding. The colours are brilliant. I love this book.

    THANK YOU FOR THE PRESENTATION. I AM ANOTHER LUCKY ONE TO OWN THIS EDITION. TASCHEN DID A GREAT JOB IN PUBLISHING THE BOOK IN THIS VERY UNIQUE AND MOST BEAUTIFUL FORMAT. THE BINDING IS AMAZINGLY REFINED AND THE WHOLE CASING DESIGN IS SO TASTEFUL. I HAVE DEDICATED A SMALL SHELF IN MY STUDY FOR THIS BOOK LAIED HORIZONTALLY FOR ALL THE SAFETY REASONS YOU MENTIONED, PLUS A PAIR OF COTTON GLOVES FOR HANDLING AND READING IT. THE PAGES WITH THEIR SILK FINISH ARE SO FINE AND DELICATE. I ADMIRE TASCHEN TO HAVE MADE THE ALBUM IN FOLDED PAGES, PROBABLY TO PROTECT THE PAGES . TASCHEN DID REALY A PROFOUND CONTRIBUTION IN ADMIRATION OF A WORLD CLASS MASTER WITH A MOST REASONABLE AND AFFORDABLE PRICING.
    THANK YOU ALL!

    Many of you will know this by now, but the binding is traditional Japanese stab binding. Its a binding method that originated in East Asia.

    I compliment you on your taste. I have that very edition. Also, have an earlier edition published by the Brooklyn Museum, as well as several other books on the great master. I fell in love with woodblock prints, while residing in San Francisco, Ca. so many years ago. That City is awash in Jaoanese art.
    Thank you for promoting my favorite artist.

      Thomas O'Donnell, you might be interested in an upcoming exhibition of prints that The Chester Beatty Library in Dublin, 🇮🇪 Ireland will be organising in 2021, seeing as how you enjoy these prints. You can probably access online or order a catalogue from the library once it's published.

    Of all the Taschen special books, this one would be the one that is most worthy of a buy. What a beauty. Also check out the Hokusai, fashioned in a similar style.

      Pontus Presents i'm a fan of Hiroshige's work (and ukiyo-e in general realy) so i like it a lot. The illustrations are beautifull and the curious binding of the book and the overall presentation gives it that extra authentic feeling.
      So overall i think it's good for people who love this kind of art.

      Have you seen the new Hiroshige & Eisen, 'The Sixty-Nine Stations along the Kisokaido'? I hope they make a similar edition like '100 Famous Views...' for that one also, since the current one is in a XXL format.

      Pontus Presents wow looks great but that pricetag tho haha
      Still you can't deny that it's a piece of art in and of itself
      Can we expect a review from you?? ;)

    Today I got another Hiroshima book at a second hand store. It is of the same size, and it is titled: The Sixty-Nine Stations along the Kisokaido. It is bound on the shorter side, but the binding have come loose. I will try to repair it myself😕

    Very useful. They made a smaller regular binding version later, I think?

      Yup!

    • @vilvile
      @vilvile 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PontusPresents any major differences with that smaller version? I think I saw it quickly at a bookstore and the binding looked more “traditional” and of course the scaling of the pictures. But can’t tell if one is superior to the other.

    Hello ! Superb collection of books that you own. Congratulations! I have seen that you own Hiroshige and Eisen; Japanese Woodblock Prints, not sure if you also own Yoshitoshi and thirty six views of Mount Fuji. Anyway the question is: if you had to pick only one of them, which one would it be?
    Or if I were to get them all, is any of them rarest than any other? In which order should I buy them?

    • @PontusPresents
      @PontusPresents  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All of them are fantastic. I’m sure you wouldn’t be disappointed with any if you are interested in Ukiyo-e art ☺️

    Lovely book! I don't own any Taschen books myself, but watching this video has piqued my interest. A book I have been interested in for a little while, which may become the first Taschen book that I buy, is "Germany around 1900. A Portrait in Colour." Pontus, I noticed that the FS was promoting a month or two ago a new Hiroshige book by one of their partner publishers, which was being marketed and sold on the FS site. Do you have any interest in that volume?

    • @PontusPresents
      @PontusPresents  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I do recall that edition! I think it is published by Prestel, but I don't have any interest in that specific edition since the price is a bit high. It is also bound in a Japanese binding style, I believe!
      And the book you mentioned, "Germany around 1900. A Portrait in Colour", looks great! Fantastic photographs. :-) I'm sure you would be pleased with it!
