    Did they reduce other vehicles as well? It's not public transportation what make cities congested, it's excessive private vehicle use.

      In this case i would say taxis more than private vehicles.
      But to be honest they could pedestranize a lot in london considering there's alway the tube, some areas that should be a livable city centre are really chaotic, and the economy wouldn't get hurt one bit it would make the area more attractive for city centre activities while others could move outward.

      In theory yes, in practice no. Congestion in London is caused by busses stopping every hundred yards, taking corners slowly and accelerating even slower, all the while pumping fumes into the air. Take the tube you numpty.

      Alfred Munkenbeck if there were only busses there’d be no traffic, if there were no busses, traffic would be unimaginable.

    There needs to more buses, more public transport! The thing to do with oxford street would be to make it for taxis and buses only. Simple to do and would have a big benefit and wouldn't affect public transport.

      I've lived in London for 22 years, take the tube, it's more reliable and much faster, there's literally zero need for busses in central london, they're almost slower than walking and the pollution is atrocious.

      Alfred Munkenbeck if you would remove buses from central London, tube would be so crowded. people uses buses in central London to finish their journey cuz buses stop usually directly near an office or any job. makes sense?

    I swear that TfL aren't right in the head. Less buses = more congestion as it is seen as even less attractive as it already is.

  • @AgnostosGnostos

    What is wrong with the public transportation of buses? Pollution should be measured per passenger not per vehicle. Taxis are at least ten times more pollutant per passenger than buses.
    The true is that the part from Bond street station to Tottenham court road of the future Elisabeth line station will serve more people, more comfortably than the very old frequently congested central line.
    What I dislike in Oxford street isn't not the air pollution but the sound pollution of vehicles.

    • @Munkenba
      @Munkenba 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not per passenger, but per meter of road used, because that's what you're actually breathing. Two passenger cars stopped at the lights are pumping out much less carbon than a bus taking up the same space, regardless of how many people are in it. Your math works in theory, but the minute you stand still in oxford street, that theory goes out the window, exhaust fumes from a stationary bus are deadly.

    • @AgnostosGnostos
      @AgnostosGnostos 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alfred Munkenbeck That is true. However he underground can't have stations everywhere and many citizens can't or are not willing to walk for going and return to an underground station. Buses really pollute but have stops everywhere. They are much less pollutant per passenger than Taxi cabs and cars. I live in Athens which has a much bigger problem due to photochemical pollution of the exhaust gases of vehicles.

    • @Munkenba
      @Munkenba 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course, in the further reaches of London busses make a bit more sense, but in the area around oxford street, you're never more than five minutes from a train station, which is the case for probably 50% of london. In these areas, busses have no place. Walking down oxford street is a miserable experience, you can taste the fumes and all you can hear are busses, it's the perfect place to get rid of them.
      As for Athens I can't speak, it's different city to city, it may well make more sense there.

    This is going to make more congestion. TfL, it's a bad idea. We actually need more buses in London going from poor areas of London to central London.

    I'm not convinced it'll work. I know from December, they're already going to reroute the 6 between Piccadilly and Marble Arch via Green Park and Park Lane. So Tfl, you're sacrificing one route on Regent Street just for more congestion on Hyde Park? Please consider a rethink. Maybe one that involve vans and lorries for a start.

    fewer buses will limit the ability for many, especially those with mobility issues, to access central London. Encouraging walking, bicycling, etc, speaks to a demographic that is both of a state of health and age to do so, and it isnt as if it's always good mild weather in that town. This just makes travel become more a chore and tedious.
