    it's not about how much power the amp could put out in an average size room as much as it is about how well the amp can support a variety of reactive loads... the power supply and amp design, it's ability to cleanly keep up with speaker current demands, and quality components and construction are all more important than efficiency due to class of operation..
    some 100w amps are crap, and some 25w amplifiers are great.

    I have an older Kenwood class-A integrated (that I keep around as a backup) that has 6wpc. For normal listening, it drives my LS50 Metas just fine. The N-cor module will have a warmer bottom end being class-D, and 50wpc into 4 ohms will be enough to drive the KEFs.

This piece looks really nice but considering what’s out in the market and their value, I can’t see this retailing for more than $499 maybe $599. For $999 it must have a chunky power supply (toroidal), big caps, and a decent DAC with a sub out. This can’t be $999. So cool though.

    Teac has been around and it's a shame no one knows. I purchased a PD-301 in 2018 and the AI-301 was cheaper than the player and would be interesting how it compares to the 303. However I got the PD-301 because of the DAC (Burr Brown) in the player and when I watched your video on the Sony DVD player several month's ago with the digital output I couldn't help but think about the PD-301. I am still old school and everything I have is analog aside from the computers (hence the purchase of the PD-301). I did purchase a Geshelli Labs J2 for my workbench computer (Linux OS) after watching your video's however it had a few problems and moved it to the radio room (Windoze OS) and it works flawlessly. Ended up with an SMSL SU-1 on the Linux machine and was totally plug and play. I enjoy watching your Videos and glad to see someone put up one on Teac for a change. Teac has not gone anywhere that I know of but they just kind of faded away here stateside after the end of the reel to reel revolution (introduction of the CD Player in the early 80's) Still have a Technics RS-1500US and a Pioneer RT-2044 and will never part with them. By the way the wife loves the Fosi V3 and Micca RB42's you suggested in the living room as they complement the PD-301. Thanks for the good work and again I enjoy the video's.

    Teac made cassettes in the 80’s that looked like reel to reel tapes too.
    For $999 USD, more power and more I/O options would be more ‘bettah’. Might be a nice desktop solution. Need to compare this to Aiyima T9 or my favourite cheap Chinese amp - Douk ST-01 Pro.

It's good to see a review that doesn't demand we buy muscle amplifiers to power our speakers, but that rather concentrates on the sound - which is what it's really all about. I'm less happy about the price, but if this is anything like the stuff they made back then, wow!

    4 months I bought the Teac PD- 301 DAB-X CD Player to hook it up to my sonus faber omnia. Connected via chord company interconnectors so everything was purchased 30-50% lower than retail price but brand new. The sound produced is astounding. Much better than so many other more conventional setups I tried when trialling different systems. Comes with the BurrBrown DAC and by luck the combination is amazing, especially for the elongated rectangular room I have. The sonus faber omnia projects the sound across the room so much better than some of the lovely standmounts I tried through B&W. Am sure there are always technilly better setups but for my space this was immense.

    Yeah, about that Teac I was and to a point I liked it till I heard $900, whatever.. I love the styling and it would be interesting if someone did a deep dive into its power supply. I am going to assume someone will. Sadly, I think that asking price is going to be an issue. The lack of more aux audio not an issue. I don't remember if you said it had a USB-C input but I would think for Nine Hundred Scratch if it doesn't that's possibly an issue. And I don't see it replacing the likes of your Go to the A10 Classic nor the WiiM Amp frankly just add subwoofer and you have all the power you need irrespective of Mr. Kef saying otherwise. Also, I'm betting WiiM comes out with an Amp Chip Swap-able Unit next yr. That would make the WiiM IN CRDIBLE... roll in some Sparkos and Bam...

    I wound up with the Elac EA-101eq-g - 80 watts with Bluetooth, a sub out, and room correction. Randy, knowing you’re an Andrew Jones/Elac fan, have you ever played with one of these?

    Dear hifi friends, a Benchmark Audio DAC-1 is currently on sale here in Germany. As I have never heard of it before, my question is whether it is a benefit for me. My small hi-fi chain is a Rega io, Cambridge Audio MNN10 and Spendor A2 loudspeakers. As an alternative I would also consider a Denafrips Ares II, but the DAC-1 is half the price and maybe twice as good? The DAC-1 is in my shopping basket as a precaution. Thanks for any help!

    You put me on a head trip. I want the TEAC. Already bought and sorry re: the vertical NAD. for my bedroom micro system purchased late NOV 2023.
    First reason not quite aware of specs with do not need it's phono input of the newer model which replaced the USB in (to be used with digital out of USB-C, on my Fiio DAP ). Also, the NAD has 'fiddly' lighted touch symbols on top. That is what I get from not being able to see these in person in retail.
    Not only $ issue (this month on Nikon mirrorless and lenses), i am not good at selling (where to trade?) and have some excess gear stuffed into my limited closet space.

    I think they've been around all along putting out these little integrated amps and cd players, though not in the US market. Some of them even have VU meters and go for a couple grand. I snagged one of their AI-301-DA-X integrated amps a year or so ago for a $200 for my bedroom setup. Great little amp that runs a pair of Monitor Audio RX1 and sourced by a Denon DP-51F and Apple Airport Express gen 2 for digital.

    I was looking for a replacement for the emotiva amp and I'm asking you which would be a better sounding alternative with around 80-100w into 8 ohm?
    I understand this TEAC sounds vrey good even with 25w into 8 ohm, so i was looking dor the same kind of quality, but with more power.

    I had a Teac tape deck along with the little 6 in 4 out mixer they sold. The Teac deck was more dependable than my Revox and sounded pretty descent. Love the KEFs at reasonable volumn levels. Image fine, easy-to-use and the sound is coherent. At higher levels, a strong high current helps but they sound a bit strained when peaks on my cheap meter exceed 85db. About the "watts" a number without specifics means nothing. Is the number quoted at 8 ohms say only 1000hz and what is the distortion? How about 4 ohms??? What the power band power ...20- 20000 at say .1% or even 0.5% IM and harmonic distortion? What about 2 ohms? I have a commercial Crown, Class D power amp that claims to be 650 watts per channel into 4 ohms. I've never been able to figure out how they got than number. It sounds fine and drives every speaker I have (5 pair) to ear splitting levels and only the 1st set of level lights light up. Fine but what is the real power available? Probably... 150 per channel at 8 ohms and maybe 300 into 4. I expect that 650 per channe number is really a peak value. I like the amp but would like to know the number measured in an old school way. Then there is the issue how the amp behaves into a reactive load and not a resistor....and on and on.... so the matter of a Power amps real power is not so simple. (I do have a totally rebuilt old school dual mono power amp that weights nearly 50 pound and recently tested at 150 watts, 20-20000 into 8 ohms at 0.2% distortion. Power easily doubled into 4 ohms. Still i like the sound of my much newer Crown better . Both can destroy your hearing.

    TEAC never actually left. Well ok, they left the consumer market and focused on pro or prosumer gear known as Tascam. With this unit it looks like they may be fixing to come back to the consumer market. Should be interesting. I have fond memories of TEAC.
    I have a Tascam Pro CD recorder I use for digitizing vinyl. It is several years old, but it is built like a brick chicken house. They did "upgrade" it about 3 years ago or so, but there is not much difference except for the more recent model is a tray loader where as the older ones like mine are slot loaders. Everything else is the same.

      @@user-kv3ue5fp4c Indeed that is the one. Real work horse I might add. Of course, it can only record in real time, but that is how these work. You don't really want to record with any speed processing or what have you as it can create anomalies or artifacts that are not heard until you go to remaster it and then no matter how sophisticated your software is, you would have to re-record it at the slower speed.

    • @user-kv3ue5fp4c
      @user-kv3ue5fp4c 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ericelliott227 I have it too, in use since around 2010, and I have had a number of issues with it (the Tascam actually replaced an old Marantz DR700, one of the first consumer CD recorders on the market), many of which continue to this day.
      The slot loading interface doesn't let me insert discs anymore without me very forcibly jamming them in. It also won't spit them out without me having to hit the eject button until it does.
      It also makes loud noises that have gotten worse over the years, and I don't think the analog recording section is working properly, as I can never really get much gain from the meters when recording off vinyl.
      Is the drawer loading replacement model supposed to be better?

    • @ericelliott227
      @ericelliott227 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@user-kv3ue5fp4c Not knowing when your issues started, I believe the problems with your piece is age and use. Nothing lasts forever. I think mine is around circa 2014 so that's 10 years old, but it also doesn't see constant action so it is still going strong. I'm sure in another 5 to 10 years it will need to be put down. Also, slot loading mechanisms are notorious for breaking down. I never liked them and always preferred tray loaders, but at the time I did not have choice.
      In your case, the drawer loading newer model would be better for sure, because not only is it a different more reliable mechanism, but an obviously fresher unit (same in every other way) all together. Of course, I am also using my own experience as a measure as well. If the issues with yours started earlier in your ownership, say a year or two in, then I would say it somehow slipped through quality control and you got a bad one by random chance.
      These recorders are designed to be rack mounted in professional environments (no, not taken on the road or something), they aren't that tough. However, in a professional environment there is an expected longer shelf life.

    • @user-kv3ue5fp4c
      @user-kv3ue5fp4c 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ericelliott227 Well, even though mine is older than yours, I haven't actually burned an excessive amount of discs with it, which is why I'm disappointed with the brand. Of course, anyone could get a bad unit off the assembly line, but I expected more out of TEAC's professional division - as a bit of background info, I used to work for the P.R. firm that represented Tascam at that time, writing press releases and such about their new releases (alongside marketing collateral for brands like SSL and HHB). The firm was called D. Pagan Communications and they were based in Long Island, New York, where I grew up.
      Anyway, indeed, these things were made to be rack mounted, evidenced by the fact that they come out of the box with the rack ears on - however, I took those off when I first got mine because I was stacking it in my two channel system above a Marantz CD changer. I'm not sure just how "rugged" these recorders are, but they're SUPPOSED to be much more rigid than the consumer grade decks. To be honest, I don't feel that my particular 900SL has earned the "professional" moniker on its front panel...
