Modifying an Airsoft Mesh Mask (for use with Helmets and Goggles)

  • Recently picked up a new lower mesh mask and made a video on how I modify my masks. You can see my scavenging ability when it comes to making velcro tabs. Sorry I didnt choose something more widely available, but there are lots of creative options for integrating a mask into your head/eye/face protection set up.
    A heat gun with a low setting (or a hair dryer on w/ a med/high setting) and tin snips make this process a lot easier and faster. Different "brands" use different glue/adhesive, so the extra power of the heat gun is good to have. If you're doing it for the first time, take your time and take a little off at a time, shaping it to fit your goggles and face. Properly modified, you should end up with goggles properly sealed to your face, and full lower face coverage.

    Well done, great end product! Was wanting to do something just like this myself. It's really helpful to watch someone else do it, so I can know what challenges to expect. Thanks for uploading this.

    DId you drill small holes in your glass?
    Does that help on fogging i have problems with that

      @Hofinator7  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually i melted the holes, and they didnt work. Spend the money on a nice set of goggles with a built fan, either the ESS Turbofan or the Smith Optics Outside the Wire (OTW) fan version. I found a set of the ESS Turbofans for $70, and it was one of the top 3 airsoft purchases I've ever made

    Dude I have a question, the googles is better put outside of the helmet, or inside?? how I can get better support?? its for paintball no airsoft.

    • @Hofinator7
      @Hofinator7  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I put it on the outside because my helmet has straps and pads at the back of my head, which makes wearing goggles underneath my helmet uncomfortable and difficult to put on. The goggles on the outside also help to keep the helmet in place.

    @hofinator7 I noticed u play at zulu. I was just wondering with your smp. With a .25 what fps are u running at. And what weight bbs do u use on the field.

    • @Hofinator7
      @Hofinator7  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Cesar Santana I always run my SMP at or below CQB limits (less than 1.13 joules which is 350 FPS w/ a .20g). My regulator is set at about 55 psi, I've got a pretty short barrel (200mm), and I use .30g's, so its usually around 280-290 FPS, which is a little over 1 joule. With a .25g it would be about 310-315.

    • @ceezurp9805
      @ceezurp9805 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Hofinator7 since the fps limit at zulu is 400 with a .25. And that is equal to around 1.86 joules. If I run .36 g bbs, and they chrono in around 1.80-1.85 joules. Would these joules be considered a "hot" shooting gun at zulu.
      Thanks for all the help

    • @Hofinator7
      @Hofinator7  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Cesar Santana Should be fine. They will chrono the gun with .25s (if your gun uses an m4 mag). And if its shooting over, you can still use it but it will be considered a sniper rifle/DMR and you get a 100' minimum engagement distance.

    hey i bought one of these masks, i have a very small face and the mask looks very big, how did you bend it to fit you face?

    • @Hofinator7
      @Hofinator7  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      with my hands. its a lot of guess and check and fitting against your face. if its too hard to bend, try taking the handle of a screwdriver on one side and press/roll it against a hard surface (table/workbench). the edge is a lot harder to work, I used a pair of pliers since I wasnt worried about scratching the paint off the mesh (it was going to be covered by the fabric).

    The mesh touches my face, is that supposed to happen?

    • @Hofinator7
      @Hofinator7  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      whatever is comfortable. for me the mesh is pretty close to my skin, which means I can look down my sights better. as long as the sharp edge of the mesh isn't exposed and scratching you, there isn't anything wrong protection-wise with having the mesh against your skin. and you can always bend it out a little if it isn't comfortable.

    • @thesocialbluejay5204
      @thesocialbluejay5204 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Hofinator7 Thanks a lot! I didn't know I could bend it that much!

    What type of goggles are you running?

    • @Hofinator7
      @Hofinator7  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ESS Profile NVG goggles. These are military surplus and you can find them on ebay for pretty cheap ($10-20), just make sure the elastic isn't all stretched out. Surplus lenses are almost always scratched up (and I've had one with stress cracks), but cheap enough to replace. The goggles themselves come in black, green, light tan (in this video), and brown (in my profile pic, great color if you can find them).
