LIVE is a must he’s the only performer I know to get 30000 people spontaneously singing on time in tune and then on pitch! This is our unofficial national anthem! John is a national treasure Burn for you next he has many many hits down under and is still huge in his 70’s and still has that voice!

I have a vivid memory of this song. I was on a skiing holiday in northern Sweden with my family the year this came out. We were standing in line for the lift and this song was blaring on the loudspeakers. I begged my mother for the money to buy the single as soon as we came home. I still have the 7" single. Thank you Mom (and John)!

John Farnham is an Aussie legend. He has a wealth of great songs. I think you would really enjoy reacting to his version of Help by the Beatles. Other hits he has had include, Two Strong Hearts, When Something is Wrong With My Baby (with Jimmy Barnes), Touch of Paradise, That's Freedom, Pressure Down and Chain Reaction, Burn for You and Every Time You Cry (with Human Nature). He started in the 60s as a solo artist with Sadie the Cleaning Lady. Took over as the lead singer of the Little River Band for a while before going parabolic in the 80s and 90s as a solo artist again. Despite retiring many years ago. He pretty much has a comeback tour ever second year and still sleighs it.

His voice is unforgettable, his performance artistry so skillful, and his social consciousness flows through his work. This message - unfortunately - has as much resonance & as much need to be heard - Really HEARD! - today as it did when first written.
    Love from down here in Tasmania ( the southern most & Island State of Australia }

When you said this looks like it was his only hit I almost fell off my chair. WOW!!! This was his break-through song as a solo artist but IMO doesn't showcase the depth, strength and control of his voice. Many others have listed some of his other songs and performances. He is one of the true artists who is as good as if not better live - doesn't need all the toys of a studio to sound good. Just raw talent. A great performer with a down to earth attitude on and off stage. You may have gathered I'm a fan. And I'm glad you will be too!

True, through the 70's and early 80's, he was what was known as a "mother's pet". He couldn't get rid of 'Sadie the Cleaning Lady' or his cover of "Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head".
Then Whispering Jack came out. I saw him live a couple of time after this came out, and people would shout "PLAY SADIE!!!" and he, being him, would play the crowd.
      Farnsie: Ya wanna hear Sadie?
      Punters: YEEEAAAHHHHH!!!!!!
Farnsie: Ya really wanna hear it?????
      Punters: YEAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
      Farnsie: Well,...........stiff.

"Age Of Reason", "In Days To Come" and "Lifted Up By Angels " are all songs with a message sung by the wonderful and charismatic John Farnham . All can be found as live performances, which he excels at doing, recorded on video. John is a good-hearted , kind, funny and very likeable, humble man, too. The rest of the world hasn't heard much of him because he preferred to stay in Oz. Also, he didn't like the way artists could lose control over their music through the influence of some recording companies overseas.

John Farnham was born just outside London in Dagenham, Essex, England but is an Australian national treasure, having emigrated there with his parents, younger brother and elder sisters when he was ten.
This song is often referred to as Australia's unofficial national anthem and with what Australians are going through at the moment, the lyrics are even more relevant now than they were then.

Lyric written by Keith Reid. The man who wrote the lyrics for Procol Harum, including Whiter Shade of Pale. Which is a heck of a contrast. Keith didn't play an instrument as far as I know. In any case he wasn't a member of the band but, like Bernie Taupin for Elton John, he wrote all the words. This is the only song I know of that he wrote for anyone else but there may be others.

There is phone camera footage floating around TH-cam of Céline Dion performing this one in Melbourne. Unannounced, Farnsey walks out and picks up the lead vocal for the second verse. Proper shivers mate, shivers.

Harri, love it, love JOHN FARNHAM'S voice and love this song especially when the choir and bagpipes come in. How about another Aussie but Glasgow born JIMMY BARNES from the live album BARNESTORMING and the track SEVEN DAYS, an absolute banger that'll get you headbanging. Take care kid.

He is our legend and national treasure. Please consider listening to "In days to come".. That has a bigger message than this one and so appropriate for today even though is a old song

This was his biggest song, but he’s no one hit wonder. I would also suggest:
    - Pressure Down
    - Two Strong Hearts
    - One
    - Touch of Paradise

You need to re listen to this song live with the Melbourne symphony orchestra Just so you can hear what he can do vocally with this song. I love the studio version but the one live is powerful 🙂
Sending love and good vibes to John and his family 💕💕

John Farnham has been around since 1967.
When Glenn Shorrock quit Little River Band, JF became the new lead singer. 🤠
GS reminds me of Lou Gramm from Foreigner. 👨‍🎤
Suggested LRB video: The Other Guy live. 🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🇦🇺
Suggested duet: John Farnham + Jimmy Barnes. Something Is Wrong with My Baby. 👨‍🎤👨‍🎤

Harri love your reactions. Try John Farnham’s cover of The Beatles song “Help” live with The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra: th-cam.com/video/dv54giOSRKs/w-d-xo.html

I’d had no idea his “Help” song was a Beatles song till very recently. Even now when I hear Farnsy’s version, I don’t connect it to the Beatles. I’d listen to John’s “Help” anyday. And in the live he plays with the audience spectacularly.

Fun fact, the arguing couple at the start appears to be Derryn Hinch, a very well known talkback radio hostand TV personality, and his then wife Jackie Weaver, who is an Oscar nominated actress. She may have been used to him waving bottles around, as he had a liver transplant a few years back. And Rambo is Mr. Brett Garsed. They guy who plays guitar in my band has been at the professionals only guitar tech he goes to, while Garsed nearly levelled the building trying to sort out a feedback issue. Looks like Rambo, dangerous like Rambo, just a different weapon.
