I've raced on autopolis a lot in GT sport, it's actually a sick track. It doesn't look like much from the layout but the elevation changes in the corners (there's so many) make it a really unique and fun track, and there's so many turns that are simple on the face of it but you can take in so many ways. Really sucks that F1 never raced there.
I drove this multiple laps in NFS ProStreet & Shift 1, as well as trying out drift cars (mainly from D1GP) in the D1GP layout of Autopolis, which goes backwards over the last turn of the normal version of the track.

A race around my childhood home of Copenhagen was being pursuit until it was deemed not green enough for the city Council. I would have loved seeing the F1 cars race across the old bridges by Christianshavn.

2:36 OMG. I didn't realize that the place I go to sing karaoke with my friends in Port Imperial was AT THE START/FINISH LINE OF THE TRACK LAYOUT. Literally, the Ferry Terminal between NJ and Manhattan is where that red arrow is. BTW, for those not familiar, there's a significant uphill from 3-6 with a bridge between Turns 3 & 4, and from Turn 12 to Turn 15 is all downhill (and from 15 to 16 is still somewhat downhill). Also, for the musically- or historically-inclined, just to the southwest along the same road that runs from Turns 6-12 is Hamilton Park, where Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr had their famous duel.
An F1 race at Road America would’ve been cool. 2 DRS zones (Main straight and after the Long right-hander) and lots of overtaking, I think it would be awesome especially in the new cars

Yea seems like a good track for gt cars too, having driven there in Gran Turismo Sport. Although dirty air is a massive issue there, even Super GT and LMP1 cars struggle there, let alone F1 cars..🤔
Only NFS pro street, the shift series and GT sport feature autopolis and it pisses me off. It's a great track that is underapreciated and overlooked, and it needs more representation

Every time I watch D1GP at Autopolis, my mind always thinks of this & Noise Bomb race day at the track I mentioned earlier. - Rival challenge against Kiyo Hironaga after finishing on the podium at all Japan Series events (NFS Shift). - Race 3 of Works - League Championship for Mad Mike Whiddett's FC RX-7 (Shift 2 Unleashed).
There was also a Danish GP in the talks at one point, round the streets of Copenhagen. A track layout was made by Jan Magnussen and Hermann Tilke, but that was however as far as it got
Remember Stockholm Street Circuit? It was supposed to be on the 2005 F1 Calendar. Buenos Aires had plans for a Street Circuit in 2007. Indianapolis planned a Street Circuit in 1990. Even Sepoong in 1998. Also Yvelines near Paris in 2011. San Diego almost hosted the California GP in 2006. Even Cancun in 2006. Too. The Enna-Pergusa Circuit was supposed to be on the 1990 Calendar.

Ontario was pretty advanced even by modern standards, and I'm fairly certain it's also the only venue to ever host Indy car, NASCAR, F1, IMSA and NHRA drag racing (They raced down pit road, which was about half a mile long.), as well as a couple of music festivals called California Jam I and II.
Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas is a good shout for "oof, that was a close one". It was just a run around a car park! Good thing we never went there, though. Right?
That layout was not the actual one proposed. It was quite a lot different from that although still not great. The image here is just a joke someone must have made up, it would quite literally be impossible to have that layout in that area of Rome
There's no way it could ever host F1, as cool of a track as it is. Good luck getting 100,000+ people and a billion dollars of corporate advertisement into Elkhart Lake, WI. That would be like trying to put the Olympics in Beloit
Definitely the Port Imperial circuit. As a NJ resident at the time was excited to finally have a major car race in our state. It would have definitely brought more awareness to a state that has a couple of short tracks and a club circuit. Most of the Jerseys local drivers go to Pennsylvania and New York for their traxk.
ik im replying to this a year later but i agree and now with the atlantic city F1 circuit being proposed i’m really hoping that can be a second chance for Port Imperial. everyone either goes out of state or to New Egypt motor speedway for races

Im from Fuengirola and my father, who actually likes F1 a lot, had already told that to me. My father told me that when he was a teenager it was going to be an F1 race here and he even remembers watching the drivers training. But sadly, it looks like the mayor decided that it was a much better idea to invest the money in the "feria". (a place in the city where you can party and listen to flamenco one week per year in a traditional Andalusian way, basically) This is something that EVERY city, town and village has once a year in the south of Spain, so we could go to the nearest town (10min by car) to the feria but noooo, the mayor thought that having a F1 street circuit in the town sucks compared to having feria
Autopolis looks like it could’ve been a pretty decent circuit, however after racing the Hanoi track in F1 2020 I’m kind of glad that they didn’t go there. It’s not a memorable track for the right reasons.
My father was heading the development team that was working on making the port imperial track. I can’t even describe how disappointed he is that it never pulled through, a solid 11/10 on the disappointment scale
If they have a race in New York I would lose my crap. It’s only a three hour drive there and I love F1. Now I can’t get sleep without saying to myself that they will have a race there.
A friend of mine and I were already planning on getting tickets for the weekend. And I'm on the HBLR line, so I could have legit just taken the light rail from a few blocks away to INSIDE the track, which would have been absolutely sick.
Absolutely devastated that NJ GP never happened bc I'm close to there and it would have been fantastic calendar event. Since it still exists I hope it's there soon
Something I would like to happen in the F1 calendar is to change race tracks almost each year, like you can't host a race in the same race track for three years in a row, to have much more variety in races each year
I remember back in 2004 about plans to host a Grand Prix in a circuit located in Cancun, Mexico, right next to the beach. Nothing ever came close to happening, I don't even think the circuit was built, but for a few weeks it was all over the news and the press.
I would think of Aki Kimura when I arrive there in person, it was where the one-on-one showdown against him is held for the Drift King crown + pink slip to his FD.
Not sure if many people know this, but Autopolis is an absolute GEM! People who drive it say it's one of the best tracks on earth, on-par with Suzuka and Spa. Check out an onboard, it's really something🙂
I think Donington was actually a replacement for the Pacific GP which was supposed to take place at Aida. This why there were lots of Japanese logos like SEGA at Donington
Autopolis has been in a few video games I've played, really enjoyed driving round it. In nothing close to an F1 car though so not sure how it would be with modern machinery, but up to about GT3 cars it's a confirmed banger for me. Would really like a bloody South African grand Prix around Kyalami though. Stefano's mentioned he wants F1 back in Africa, it'll be better than yet another dodgy middle Eastern night race.
As someone who likes F1, Super GT, and D1 Grand Prix, I would be SO glad if this track ever hosted an F1 race. For D1GP, this track gives me Noise Bomb (a racing organization in NFS ProStreet that specializes drift races) vibe.
My grandfather used to tell me about the Wellington street race that was held as part of the world touring cars and aussie touring cars in the 80’s and 90’s. I sometimes wonder what f1 cars would have been like racing here . Would of been like a less flashy but faster monaco
I'd wish this historical F1 partnership with Hermann Tilke soon stopped. 🤦🏾♂️Because I'm tired to see too many circuit so similar, without soul. F1 needs more circuit like Portimao, Spa, Road America, Alabama, Mugello, Brands Hatch and so on. Old Mexican Layout with peraltada, more camber corners, more Interlagos Layout and so on. We need, for the circuit, to go back with what we already have and just improving safety where it's needed, and let's put sands and finish with those silly rules of track limits. I mean, the limits should be the nature that surrounds the track, sands soft walls of tyre, in a safety way of course. Wasn't beautiful those races last year where they don't put track limits? 🤷🏾♂️
I remember when Zhuhai appeared on the 1999 calendar but never hosted the grand prix. Funny even the replacement Argentina GP was also cancelled. I also had forgotten about Hanoi before watching this video.
Oh hey, I'm near the California Speedway lol but sadly the Ontario track is gone lol. I was also bummed that my family went to the Detroit GP w/o me... (two years before I was born lol)
The Ontario circuit is now buried under a shopping mall and there are quite a few who miss that track.. myself included even though it was gone by the time I was born
Even though F1 never went to Zhuhai Descartes Editeur did release it together with Sepang for Formula Dé in 2000 (circuits 31 & 32). Shanghai was also released in 2004 together with Bahrain. The last of their expansions.
Grobnik Automotodrom near Rijeka, Croatia also almost hosted an F1 race. Note that Slavica Ecclestone is from Rijeka and the legend says that she was on bad terms with organizers and because of that the GP went to Hungaroring instead.
Nah the circuit had everything the last sector was meant to be reminiscent to the S's at cota but it had bit less flow bit like suzuka but I really loved it
My dissapointment for Hanoi is 9/10. It looks like a really interesting track, and driving it on F1 2020 feels very good, would have loved to see real F1 drivers compete on it.
Madras Motor Race Track (MMRT) was being pushed to hold the first Indian Grand Prix but to making it a FIA Grade 1 circuit was tough and the track itself was quite narrow so they ended up building the Buddh International Circuit
I’ve thrown a 2018 F1 around Autopolis for awhile and I have to say, I would love to see the real thing. I’ve done the circuit with F2s and F3s as well to the same pleased result. The central hairpin is absolutely crucial to any attempt and messing that up will put you on the back foot for at least 3 more turns.

Before watching this video, I thought it was a fictional circuit! Even though I always butchered the 3rd last sweeping corner, I do like this circuit.

The reason it isn’t a 10 is as you said technical track and I struggle a bit more in technical tracks than any other tracks so 9.5/10

The U.S. has a lot of great circuits, sadly F1 won't lower their expectations enough to race at them.

Zhuhai consists of basically only hairpins, so I guess not a great track for the drivers but definitely lots of overtaking opportunities

I have only known Autopolis recently from GranTurismo lol. Haven’t driven it in a while. I’ll update you on how the track feels in my opinion

Would really like a bloody South African grand Prix around Kyalami though. Stefano's mentioned he wants F1 back in Africa, it'll be better than yet another dodgy middle Eastern night race.

As someone who likes F1, Super GT, and D1 Grand Prix, I would be SO glad if this track ever hosted an F1 race. For D1GP, this track gives me Noise Bomb (a racing organization in NFS ProStreet that specializes drift races) vibe.

The port imperial street circuit for me is a solid 10. I am really having a hard time getting to sleep now

RB Norway were drafting up a street circuit in the middle of Oslo that actually seemed like it was gonna be a really good track

My grandfather used to tell me about the Wellington street race that was held as part of the world touring cars and aussie touring cars in the 80’s and 90’s. I sometimes wonder what f1 cars would have been like racing here . Would of been like a less flashy but faster monaco
I'd wish this historical F1 partnership with Hermann Tilke soon stopped. 🤦🏾♂️Because I'm tired to see too many circuit so similar, without soul. F1 needs more circuit like Portimao, Spa, Road America, Alabama, Mugello, Brands Hatch and so on. Old Mexican Layout with peraltada, more camber corners, more Interlagos Layout and so on. We need, for the circuit, to go back with what we already have and just improving safety where it's needed, and let's put sands and finish with those silly rules of track limits. I mean, the limits should be the nature that surrounds the track, sands soft walls of tyre, in a safety way of course. Wasn't beautiful those races last year where they don't put track limits? 🤷🏾♂️
I remember when Zhuhai appeared on the 1999 calendar but never hosted the grand prix. Funny even the replacement Argentina GP was also cancelled.

The Ontario circuit is now buried under a shopping mall and there are quite a few who miss that track.. myself included even though it was gone by the time I was born
Actually, the Toyota Arena next door to the mall sits on the old location of the speedway.

Even though F1 never went to Zhuhai Descartes Editeur did release it together with Sepang for Formula Dé in 2000 (circuits 31 & 32). Shanghai was also released in 2004 together with Bahrain. The last of their expansions.
Copenhagen! F1, FIA and local crew were in on it and thought it would be held - but then Copenhagen withdrew their support :( That's a 10/10 for me!
Autopolis is a great track and it's in Gran Turismo Sport on PS4/5.

There is also Lebanon too, Beirut street circuit in the early 2000's but for some reasons it didn't happen.
Grobnik Automotodrom near Rijeka, Croatia also almost hosted an F1 race. Note that Slavica Ecclestone is from Rijeka and the legend says that she was on bad terms with organizers and because of that the GP went to Hungaroring instead.
I despised sector 3 on Vietnam, absolutely hated it. Although Autopolis or Zhuhai would have been fun.

Sector 3 felt like a broken suspension just waiting to happen on every lap.
But Sector 2 was like Baku with harder breaking.
Nah the circuit had everything the last sector was meant to be reminiscent to the S's at cota but it had bit less flow bit like suzuka but I really loved it
I’m still hoping the Australian GP is hosted at Mount Panorama instead of at the Albert Park circuit.
My dissapointment for Hanoi is 9/10. It looks like a really interesting track, and driving it on F1 2020 feels very good, would have loved to see real F1 drivers compete on it.

I drive it primarily for drifting at Drift Course C, which is the D1GP course layout and also the first layout of Aki Kimura's one-on-one showdown.
Madras Motor Race Track (MMRT) was being pushed to hold the first Indian Grand Prix but to making it a FIA Grade 1 circuit was tough and the track itself was quite narrow so they ended up building the Buddh International Circuit
Have you seen the Madras track? No way they could've ever used anything there for F1, they'd have had to built the whole thing new anyway

I’ve thrown a 2018 F1 around Autopolis for awhile and I have to say, I would love to see the real thing. I’ve done the circuit with F2s and F3s as well to the same pleased result. The central hairpin is absolutely crucial to any attempt and messing that up will put you on the back foot for at least 3 more turns.
