Hi there, I have a bit of a tricky question that you may be able to help with - I will be flying to Pudong from Heathrow, staying in Shanghai for three days then departing Shanghai via its port for a cruise around Japan. Am I right in assuming that my ticket for the cruise will be the equivalent of evidence of an 'onward destination'? The cruise then returns to Shanghai from which we fly to Hong Kong then back to London - I am viewing the two entries into Shanghai as being separate (i.e - UK > Shanghai > Japan, Japan > Shanghai > Hong Kong > London) and therefore both would be covered by two separate transit visas, does this seem correct to you? Any help with your opinion on it would be appreciated! Thanks.

Its not a visa. Its a visa waiver for those in transit. say visa and no one will know what you are talking about.
same airport is not required. Some transit zones include multiple airports. You can arrive in Shanghai and depart Hangzhou or arrive Bejing and depart Tianjin.

@@micelynamelia6304 hey! I did get the visa and it went so smoothly despite not having a hotel booked, I was shocked. I'll write below in detail what happened from getting off the plane:
I flew into Shanghai and everyone coming off my flight got their finger prints scanned and bags x-rayed (some people say this didn't happen to them in Shanghai). After getting your finger prints scanned and bags x-rayed theres two different ways to go, going left takes you into the terminal for a layover and to the right side is for entry into the country. This area is very well sign posted so it would be difficult to not find it. It's also worth noting that the 24/48/72/144 transit visa immigration booths are different from the others, but it's very easy to see as theres a massive sign above the booths saying what they are.
Make sure you pick up the correct form for the visa free transit, I accidentally picked up some sort of application for an actual visa from a desk just before the Transit Visa area before I realised I had the wrong one. The correct forms are RIGHT next to the transit visa gates, bring your own pen to write on it with because I seen others passing 1 pen between them and that would waste time. I just put "n/a" where in the section where it asks for a hotel address since I didn't have one booked.
Once filling out my application I stood in line for about 20 minutes before stepping up and speaking to the immigration officer. Hand over your passport, the filled out 24 hour visa form, AND your ticket to leave China. They'll ask you to look into a camera to your left to take a photo of you and also make you scan your finger prints again. The officer asked me where I was planning to go and if I had a hotel and I told him I was going to get the Maglev train into Shanghai then get on the Metro to The Bund for an hour and then head straight back to the airport. He said that was no problem and he hopes I enjoy Shanghai.
He waved me through the gate and handed my passport to another officer who was double checking my information and adding the Visa sticker into my passport while I waited right behind them. I got my passport back about 10 minutes later and I was free to go.
I headed straight to an ATM and took out 300 Chinese Yuan (£30gbp or $40usd). I walked about 10 minutes to the MagLev station and bought a "MagLev Round Trip and Metro One-Day Pass" this is all one card. If you google it you can find a photo and show the person at the desk so they know what you want. This card gets you into the city on the MagLev train, unlimited rides on the Metro, and also the journey back on the MagLev.
The MagLev and Metro have signs in English so it's easy to navigate if you speak English or recognise what words you're looking for.
The MagLev will take you to Longyang road where you need to exit, go downstairs and enter the Metro station next to a KFC. To get into the city centre you want to get onto Metro Line 2 towards East Nanjing Road. Once you exit the station follow signs on the street towards "The Bund". This will take you to a view of Shanghai's iconic skyline across the river. The walk is on one long straight road so once you're done follow that road back towards the Metro station.
On the way back, get on Metro Line 2 to Longyang Road station, exit the Metro and go upstairs to the MagLev and ride back to the airport. Once there it's super easy to follow signs towards wherever you need to go.
All in all the journey from beginning to end took me around 2 hours to complete. I spent about 30 minutes along the river taking photos and admiring the view. I would not recommend doing this if your layover is any less than 6 hours though.

@@micelynamelia6304 no it was too late so I went through Dubai. With Dubai you don’t need a transit visa. But check their law as things can change over time

What the fuck. Stop saying that you get a transit visa if it's visa free! A transit visa is a visa! Fucking doesn't make sense. Explain things properly. Either you get a visa or you don't. Based on the video it is not VISA FREE, it's a FREE VISA. Two completely different things.

The food and scenery in China are indeed amazing, but the most important thing is that every Chinese person is very welcoming and will always help you.

I am an Indian passport holder , From Dubai, I arrive in Beijing with single entry tourist visa & get visa for North Korea from Beijing with a travel agent then go north korea in Air Koryo flight. While I am back from north Korea the flight arrives at Terminal 2 of Beijing Airport but my transit connection flight to Dubai back on Terminal 3 of Beijing Airport same day evening. Do I need visa to change between terminals, from Terminal 2 to Terminal 3 of Beijing Airport ??

They might just escort you when you arrive at customs in beijing. Or the flight attendant will inform the airport authorities and they will take you straight to T3 without you having to disembark with the other passengers.

I’m traveling from UK to NZ via Shanghai with a 7hr stopover before my 2nd flight (staying in the airport). So I don’t need to apply for a visa in advance? I just apply upon entry? I'm a UK passport holder.

If you want to leave the international area then yes you should be eligible for a visa-free transit but if you remain within the airport terminal area then you shouldn't need to go through the border unless you are self-connecting
