13:45 if you arent using the default port (22) for ssh then you need to use a capital P for the port forwarding as unlike normal (p) is used or preserving the date and time modifications for the file. eg [ -P 404 ] as apose to [ -p 404] took me a long time to find this out hope that this helps someone else.
Don't forget to use ZRAM and log2ram to increase your swap partition (in RAM) and have your logfiles in RAM instead of heavily writing to your SD card, it helps ALOT especially on low RAM SBC's! Oh and GREAT howto...even on an anemic RPiZero it is easily doable...and the .ovpn file can also be put on your phones/tablets which keeps it safe out and about on untrusted wifi networks
I set up Pi-Hole on my RPi 3b+ and it was great. However, even though I used Raspberry OS Lite there are still a HUGE number of services and ports listening! (systemctl --type=service --state=active) So, I put UFW on it, but I can't figure out what port(s) Pi-Hole needs. Please help!
What is required if one wants to make vpn router with pi-hole (using paid vpn service and wireguard settings for it), but use actual router cause of better wifi signal (so not building pi router)? Can that be achieved by inserting pi between router and your internet connection, so everything which would go to internet from router, would go through pi-hole and vpn? I assume it's impossible to route traffic that way with LTE(4G) modem which has wifi router built in.. So in that case that should be used as internet connection only, wifi turned off and using separate router?
It is all the same, you just need to add the pihole as the DNS provider on the router. I covered how to do that in the PiHole video on the channel. You may not be able to use an external VPN, because the VPN will take priority over the DNS
@@SwitchedtoLinux Thanks, will look that video. About external VPN, just thinking about it since "Internet Privacy Guy" Rob Braxman recommends to use VPN router, he has done his own from Raspberry Pi, those are using his own VPN service, but actually might be that pi-hole with those are at his VPN, so no actual pi-hole to login and see stats. Another problem with that is weak wifi signal compared to actual routers (in my opinion).
@@sivakumarr7799 a self hosted VPN doesn't work like that. Think of the flow of traffic when connected to the internet as you add more layers. #1 home -> your_ISP -> TH-cam #2 starbucks_wifi -> starbucks_ISP -> TH-cam with a self hosted VPN, whenever you're out and about it acts like #1. You're hiding your traffic from Starbucks, but your home and your_ISP now sees the traffic. Being at home using a VPN is redundant. being outside of home adds privacy / security.
Nice tutorial but that’s nothing like step by step guide.. newbie like me don’t know to click and what to write to get to the menus you’re showing.. Anyway thumbs up 👍

Thanks this! Just got our new Pi 4 Model B, and we are new to Linux (yup, we switched as well...) Cheers. B.

Greatest pi video in a while! Can I run RaspAp on the same pi? Probably a Pi4B, 4gb !?
Nice video 👍
Is it as safe a we use a paid VPN service ?
Yes and no. It is just as safe, but will route your remote work to your home office.
@@SwitchedtoLinux so if I do my bank transaction from home it will be encrypted or not

Better use an Arduino, then you can call it an A-hole...

Tor router next please!
Thanks
Can you put pivpn on same raspberry Pi with a Tor proxy?
it's a god level
where your face?
