The battle could have been better represented. Though the equipment and the banners of the Christian army are generally good in historical terms.

This was a independent movie made by a portuguese director in 1990. The budget was fairly low, I think what it was achieved was reasonably good budget wise. Cheers :)

The young and inexperienced King Sebastian was a poor commander, which is why he lost and died. Morocco was a formidable enemy, which no doubt the Portuguese underestimated. Their army was well-equipped and was defending its country. Losing three kings in one battle, though, is just careless!

The Moroccan king died from sickness in his tent. His death was kept secret by El Mansour Eddahbi until the battle was over. Whereas the second king was Moroccan too he rallied the Portuguese to claim the Moroccan kingdom throne and was later killed and his body was displayed at La Kasbah as a traitor.

Not sure they really destroyed an Empire as you said 🤔. Maybe they stopped the Iberian advance in north Africa, I'm not expert of that era but I remember that the Ottoman piracy (for Maroccans and Spanish as well) were the real treat only stooped by Spanish later 🤔.

The leadership wasnt bad its just he is a kid so its easy to blame. His initial shock charge at the start cut through the ransk of the morrocans however he didnt follow up on it, making a square was the only move considering his army lay up. The battle at the end depended on which side fought better and morrocan numbers won, not to mention sebastians charge on al malik almost won the battle but is not shown here. He was a good leader and did many alexander esq moves but many factors led to defeat.

@@aydnmesuttorun8397 Ok. Well there was a terço of Spanish volunteers, so I guess they would be using their own flag, but the Ottomans were not there they were around Tunisia, lurking geostrategically, but not in today's Morocco. My father was an advisor on this film, for the Colonial wars in the 1960s (the main plot of the film), and I can tell you accuracy was not their main goal. My father walked out when they ignored completely the real configuration of a fire base in Angola.
