For no particular reason, a remastered/re-notatized re-upload of an episode attempting to explain in short-order the history of the Marvel Comics villain who looks (especially as #LOKI continues to play out) more and more like they could be the next big bad guy of the Marvel Cinematic Universe; "Kang The Conqueror."

@@Carabas72 Loki's a good show, but letting a TV show set canon for a movie just isn't something done in Hollywood. The absolute closest we've ever come is Star Trek and X-Files, but the Trek movies were intended to REPLACE further episodes of the show as opposed to coexisting with them, and X-Files heavily simplified its lore to ensure it would work as a standalone film too. Or in the case of I Want to Believe, they just made a 2 hour episode that didn't depend on ANYTHING.

Best use of Kang as Explanium has to be the maxiseries Avengers Forever, where Kurt Busiek used Kang to paper over a LOT of long-running holes in Marvel history.
It made Immortus seem like a loser without foresight, though, which is pretty dumb for a time traveler.

Can I just say I would gladly watch an entire Comics Are Weird channel of just you breaking down obscure characters from various comic book lines with your distinctive magical ability to lay things out in a clear way but also making it really funny and addictive. Thanks for what you do, man!

I don't think kang being played by johnathn majors doesn't nesecarially mean reed and or sue richards will change. As he's from the 31st century it seems fairly obvious how he could look different.

Eh, I don't know Bob I kind of disagree that just because Jonathan Majors is playing Kang/Richards means that the FF will possibly be black or even half black. They could be mixed or not. But since Kang is a distant relative it just means somewhere in the family history going forward someone or multiple someones that were black joined the Richards family. It's not super complicated, it's just a reality in many families. And Johnathan being a dark skinned man doesn't mean anything either because genes can reach anywhere along your family timeline and pluck out what it wants to define you. My family are all the shades to the point some of us at points in the 20th century were what we call "passing." idk, too much info? Anyways sounds great, but the FF doesn't have to change for Majors playing Kang to make sense. Keep doing what you're doing.

The Young Avengers were formed in the wake of Avengers Disassembled, not in the wake of the first Civil War event (which happened later and the Young Avengers participated in).
I'll be honest, I'm like 70% sure what the mandarin image is referring to, but not certain.
More importantly an evil version of Doctor Who played by Jonathon Majors sounds pretty awesome, and I hope it works out something like that.
The irony of thinking that Nathaniel Richards being Black means that Reed Richards might be Black is super thick considering the actor who could be playing Nathaniel Richards/Kang the Conqueror became popular playing a Black man descended from a white slave master/wizard in "Lovecraft Country." Haha. It's entirely possible that he'd just be a Black descendant of a white dude. It's been known to happen...ask all of the Black Jeffersons walking around.
Exactly, many African-Americans already have white ancestry. Martin Luther King jr had an Irish grandparent; many people don't know that.
It is however well-known that Malcom X had some degree of European heritage through his mom's side.

I will say, I'm really hoping that Marvel skips the F4 origin story this time. Doing it yet again would mean 4 of the 5 live action F4 movies had all been origin stories. That's ridiculous. Also, I feel like with the F4, their origin story really isn't all that important. The energy wave gives them their powers but it doesn't really change them psychologically. The whole gag is that the wave enhances their existing personalities. It's not like, you know, Batman where his origin story is also his major trauma and vital to his character.
I'd like to see the origin story done in the opening credit scene.

I'm calling it - Fishburne as Reed Richards.

I really don't know of any other commentator working in this part of the entertainment space whose brand is that they're the kind of person who is into this stuff--and has the knowledge and chops to back that up--but seems to have *so* little joy (even antipathy,) for tropes, tone, narrative devices, camp, etc., so common to the medium and genre. I like Bob plenty--a lot in fact--but it feels like the only time he seems happy or excited about anything, it has to do with kaiju movies (which, to be fair, are fuckin' awesome.) Bob, if you're reading this... you seem sad and resigned to what you're doing; I promise I'd watch any channel or content the making of which would make you genuinely happy. Godzilla super sentai fan fic? I'm there for it, dude.

Having just seen Ant-man, you were pretty much on target. I wouldn't worry too much about the FF. There's predictions that in a few centuries there will be fewer differences in the races due to global travel and people from different cultures falling in love and getting busy. OTOH, I wouldn't mind if Disney decided to troll a bunch of the haters and say someone in Wakanda released a virus that changed everyone's skin color and Richards (Reed or one of his grandkids) decided it would be better for everyone if it wasn't countered.
Long shot, but what if they skip Kang and jump straight to Evil Reed Richards from the Ultimate line?
They'd need to establish regular Reed Richards first...

Literally the only good use for a villain like Kang the Conqueror is as a joke. Have the oldest version of him show up and trigger the hero getting their powers, die immediately, and then later a slightly younger version shows up and gets killed off immediately. Just keep having them show up over and over. Each version from a slightly earlier point in their timeline than the last, and each one gets killed. Collapsing the timeline from the older versions that already died until the oldest version of the heroes at the end of their arc/storyline save the day one last time. Only to accidental kill the guy who would become Kang right before he gets his powers.

I had to explain to people who Kang was.... and their eyes glazed over, could this be one big fake out and we end up getting GLACTIUS instead? I'm more excited about Taskmaster in a movie, even if I know it's gonna end up being a fake out, because this isn't the 616 universe, I have reasonable expectations. I'm happy with a D Tier villain just making it into a movie, and that's it.
They just did some “Explainium” B.S. in Loki episode 2 when Loki asks why they can’t just time-travel to right before Sylvie/female Loki attacked their fellow minutemen and Owen Wilson had to explain that they could only travel to that time point “in real time.”
What the hell is “real time” to a time-traveler?!?!?
Not playing with all the pieces here, since I haven't gotten to see Loki yet (been busy for the last month or so), but from what I do know of the Minute-men ideals, and MCU definitions of time-travel, he might be dumbing down one of the following explanations:
-Doing something like that would just create a new variant timeline, which would be worse to the agents of the TVA than letting themselves being attacked/killed.
-Without knowing how she's moving through time, doing that carries a higher risk of creating a multiversal cascade: if they don't kill/catch her, she could just go back in time to before THEY went back in time, repeating back and back.
or some weirder explanation like in the (very crazy) RPG Continuum, where if you wanted to do something that without damaging the timeline, you'd basically have to spend years/months perfectly planning how to make things LOOK like the original events happened, but instead, it was all a ruse, and Wilson was just like "do you know how much work that would be? Fuck that, it's much easier to just respond to the event."
Okay, first: Multiethnic families exist. And they're becoming more common with every generation. Most black kids in europe have white relatives as well as black. I know, because that's me.
Second: Kang in Ant-Man will most likely have his origins in the quantum realm. Likely he follows the trail of Pym particels to our dimension, learns about the potential of quantum travel and tries to conquer stuff. No direct relation to anything that was previously established in the MCU. That leaves room to establish character stuff of Janet and Hope, because we have barely seen anything about their relationship so far. And since there aren't many mother/daughter relationships in the MCU so far and Janet has just been introduced back to the world, these are characters to build upon.
Only other mother/daughter relationships that come to mind are Shuri and Queen Ramonda and Morgan Stark and Pepper Potts.

So if Kang is a Richards descendant, that can mean that Reed will be black, Sue will be black, or the more insane route of him being related to all of the superheroes due to him being from the future where that is actually a huge possibility. In fact... Yeah. Let's go for it. Kang is related to all of the Avengers because wouldn't it be appropriate that the next biggest supervillain is a byproduct of the world's biggest superhero team?

So Kang is basically Booster Gold, but competent. As a side note due to the way dominant and recessive genes work Reed Richards does not necessarily have to be a black man.
I know I don't know comic book lore and stories as well as you, but I know Young Avengers didn't show up in the wake of the first Civil War event. Unless thier is something your calling the first Civil War besides the one over the Super Human Registration Act. The Young Avengers was an established team, already went through whatever arc caused them to lose Iron Lad from the roster, and were some of the first to get arrested during Civil War.
I still think the big-bad is going to be Doom.
