  • The ASPro-PD trial is a world-first phase 3 trial aimed at establishing ambroxol’s potential to slow the progression of Parkinson’s. At our Research Update Meeting at the Royal Society of Medicine, principal investigator Professor Anthony Schapira is joined by experts and representatives from Cure Parkinson's and Parkinson's UK to discuss the trial and what's to come.

+1 to the woman at 50:10 who asks for more urgency. Why are we tolerating a 2 year recruitment period when it could be done in 6 months? Are there not enough patients? I don't understand. Every day saved in a trial saves 10m days of patient suffering (=27000 years of parkinson's progression for those patients)

In California, there was an overwhelming response to a clinical trial at Stanford and they stopped answering the phones. There is no shortage of people interested in participating in clinical trials for PD. It's very frustrating how long it takes from discovery to the general community getting the treatment.

@@joanwalsh5968 Agree. Something seems off here. The other strange thing is that they typically have 50+ sites for trials with 200 patients. How is it valid (even statistically) to do this? This sounds like an absolute boondoggle. How about just 5 or 10 efficient sites? Are SF, NY, LA, Miama retirement areas really not big enough to get enough patients.
Just imagine the overhead of coordinating 50 local investigators, the insane mailing lists, filling out 50 copies of every permission form the FDA requires, dealing with 50 local hospital's legal systems.
Also, smaller countries like the UK don't do this. They work just fine testing drugs at

It sounds like Ambroxol stimulates autophagy. Is that correct? If it is clearing out the misfolded proteins, that is generally referred to as autophagy. Is it not? Is it a senolytic? This gives validity to stimulating autophagy via other means as well then doesn’t it?
And how does Ambroxol affect the gut biome? Isn’t it rather imperative to know how it affects the intestinal biome?
