Animal proteins are the only source of alpha-synuclein (A-SYN) in the human diet. Plant foods do not contain A-SYN as it is only made by vertebrate animals such as cows, pigs, sheep, fish, and poultry and it is also found in eggs and dairy. Most of the misfolding of the A-SYN proteins happens in the gut during digestion, though the proteins may also be damaged (misfolded) during the processing and heat (cooking) of animal-sourced foods. 2017 Study: Vertebrate food products as a potential source of prion-like α-synuclein I am not sure why there is not more focus and education on the dietary source of alpha-synuclein, other than telling people the actual dietary cause of PD is simply not as profitable as the treatment (and drugs) after the disease has already developed. Not only are animal proteins the only source of A-SYN, dietary polyphenols, which are made by plants, (and algae and fungi) not animals, have been shown to inhibit the detrimental effects of A-SYN: 2024 Study: Gut-Brain Axis in Focus: Polyphenols, Microbiota, and Their Influence on α-Synuclein in Parkinson’s Disease

I have been stumped for quite a while about this question. When I have a bowel movement in a bedside commode and I clean it out. There is usually it looks like a rice thinner left in the pot after I dump it out before rinse it. I’ve had Dr tested for parasites and it came out negative both times. Do you have any idea what this could be, I figure maybe have leaky gut and it’s something to do with that

Missed the live transmission but had a few questions for the panel: Do seasonal allergies like hay fever which presumably increase inflammation increase PD progression? I am a sufferer and not only does it increase PD symptoms but affects cognition giving me lethargy and brain fog. Second question - is a rise in CRP a measure of acute or chronic peripheral inflammation? Would a rise in CRP be associated with corresponding rise in TNF and interleukins? Thanks!

I believe a Low Fat-High Carbohydrate Diet contributes to the Chronic Diseases of Metabolic Syndrome, of which Parkinson’s Disease is one. The Hyperinsulinemia resulting from a High Carb Diet creates the Oxidative Stress that causes Inflammation in the Brain, leading to damaged Brain Blood Vessels and damaged Neurons, resulting in neurological diseases. I also believe Chronic Stress is what brings you to many neurological diseases. Stress suppresses the Immune System and Digestion, making you more prone to infection. It also affects Digestion, resulting in poor absorption of Essential Nutrients, leading to Nutritional Deficiencies. Nutritional Deficiencies further compromise the Immune System and cause Leaky Gut and Leaky Blood/Brain Barrier. This allows foreign proteins and pathogens to avoid Digestion and directly enter the Bloodstream, making their way into the Brain. Once there, he more Cytotoxic response of the compromised Immune System causes collateral damage to the Blood Vessels and Neurons. The Leaky Gut and Leaky Blood/Brain Barrier provide 2 breaks in the Body’s defenses. These create the 2 origins of Gut PD and Nose PD. It is simply a matter of which area is overcome by foreign proteins or pathogens first. Ultimately, the result is a chronically dysfunctional more cytotoxic Immune System that results in Brain Inflammation. This damage leads not only to symptoms of Parkinson’s, but Multiple Sclerosis, Alzheimer’s, other forms of Dementia, Long COVID, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME, Chronic Lyme Disease, Fibromyalgia, POTS, MCAS, Depression , Anxiety, and other neurological diseases. The chronically dysfunctional Immune System also allows other pathogens, such as Epstein-Barr Virus, the Shingles Virus, and the Spirochete that causes Lyme Disease to come out of Remission and cause new infections, with some of the symptoms similar to Parkinson’s Disease. There may also be increased susceptibility to Molds and Environmental Toxins, further complicating diagnosis and treatment. Any treatment program must 1) address the Chronic Stress root cause, 2) correct the Nutritional Deficiencies to Optimize the Immune System, and 3) restore integrity to the Gut and Blood/Brain Barrier. Addressing Chronic Stress can include a Change of Attitude, such as offered by Eckhart Tolle’s “The Power of NOW” to break the repetitive cycle of negative thoughts. Improved Sleep Habits, Breathing Exercises, Meditation, and Exercise may also help to reduce Stress. Getting out in the sunshine will not only reduce stress, but produce Vitamin D3 to help the compromised Immune System, and provide intracellular Melatonin, one of the Body’s most powerful Antioxidants. Following a Low Inflammatory, Whole Foods Ketogenic Diet with Intermittent Fasting can help reduce Inflammation in the Brain, provide neuroprotective Ketones as an alternative fuel source to Insulin Resistant neurons, as well as stimulate Autophagy to help repair damaged Body and Brain components. The Fasting will give the Leaky Gut a break from Digestion, so it can heal, as well as help rebuild the Immune System. Supplementation can further aid the recovery process, particularly with Vitamin D3/K2, Zinc, Trace Elements (Iodine, Copper, Selenium’) to bolster the Immune System. N-acetylcisteine (NAC) and Vitamin C can help to boost Antioxidants. Benfotiamine can help to reduce stress and protect neurons. In summary, Chronic Stress and a High Carb Diet can result in chronic dysfunction of the Immune System, as well as Gut issues, Autoimmune Diseases, and Neurological Diseases. Many with Parkinson’s Disease have all of these problems. Ketogenic Diets with Intermittent Fasting are not only Preventative for Parkinson’s Disease, they are part of an important treatment for it.

You are the type of person who would put a type 2 diabetic on whole food carbs like brown bread and brown rice. A keto diet of higher fat does not cause disease. A keto diet reduces the non motor symptoms of Parkinson's. I follow a keto diet, and my non motor parkinson's symptoms are reduced, and anxiety has gone.

Thank you all for such an interesting webinar. I suffer from EO PD - diagnosed in 2008 and I am now 63 - and the absorption (or lack of) of Levadopa/diet is definitely my major problem and as was mentioned has taken over my entire life. I have a dietician but, as mentioned, we are all different and, for example, I get severe constipation if I eat carbs during the day but then the protein upsets the Levadopa etc.etc. I live in Italy so I can take advantage of the Med diet and great fresh food but it is still so, so difficult. And as Dr. Flanagan said - sometimes the meds just don't even get to where they are supposed to go. I am going to start the apomorphine pump soon so here's hoping. Would there be any possibility of doing a webinar on this new treatment ? Thank you all again for the excellent insights,

Great webinar. Thank you! Question: for last 5 years my wife has hand tremor periodically L>R when holding a cup or plate with fingers of floppy/relaxed hand. The liquid in the cup or food on the plate end up on the floor from shaking. When she squezzes the handle of the cup with her fingers, the tremor decreases or goes away. She has poor sleep, but not other classical symptoms. Is it a sign of Parkinson's? Any hope for reversing it with the passage of time (fasting OMAD & long 5-7 days fasts, organic whole & fermented food, sleep, exercise)? Thx. BTW, she is 70 yrs old, no other health problems, no meds.

Hmmm .... strange pattern? Correction: We have noticed that it is not so much about floppy/relaxed hand, but her 4th and 5th fingers shake, so if she holds a cup with 1+2+3 fingers without touching by 4+5 fingers, it is okay. This is exactly what happens when she squezzes the handle of the cup = her 1+2+3 fingers are at work but not 4+5. Is it normal or strange? Looks like an ulnar pattern?
