I think about that a lot, actually. In late August I was vivising a friend of my grandmother's who happened to have several magnets on her fridge. They were all neatly alighned near the top . For some reason there was a magnet of an airplane down by the bottom, nose pointed downward, as if it were crashing. I became fixated on it and got very nervous becuse I had a flight coming up. Yes it did. But social media really pushed it over the edge. We were already angry from 9/11/2001 thru the Bush Iraq war years which then turned into 8 years of hope and change under Obama who really did a number on things, Facebook, TH-cam, Twitter etc all came about around 2008-2012 and it's been downhill ever since. Trump is a reaction to Obama. Obama was a reaction to Bush. Problem is we have an in your face media that thrives on hysteria and a population that is addicted to that same social MEDIA like a drug. None of this ends well, in my opinion.
This was my first day of 6th grade, junior high.. So it's weird seeing this knowing at that same time I'm in my new school. I actually missed the bus on 9/11 and my mom was about to take me in until we seen the tower on fire on the news then I seen the second plane hit and my mom decided to keep me home.
Diane Stephanie Sioson the guy who shot this video passed away in 2014.. but I’m seeing all over the comments that this girl was not Denease; her last name was Perez
Growing up in Ireland during the troubles, you have to learn to remember those who have been lost but not let terrorists stop you from living your life. The human spirit is very resilient and terrorism will never win.
I had MiniDV camcorders in 2002 & 2004. This quality was very much available in 2001. There was even better hd available in 1993 with hd vhs but it didn’t take off at the time.
That exact day I turned 4 years old. Back than I couldn't understand what was happening in New York. Today I'm a firefighter myself and the event of 9/11 is still unbelievable to me. I have a lot of respect for all the units who responded that day. I want to honor those fellow firefighters who gave their lives to help others by doing the same and serving my home town. We should never forget what happened that day and how the western world got attacked right in its heart. -German firefighter, 18 years later
Labor Day 2001 . Having worked in lower Manhattan for many years this is exactly how I recall it. It is incredible what was soon to transpire. RIP to all the victims.
That was when things were still all right in the US. It's strange how one single day can change so much. It's really fascinating, in a sad and tragic kind of way .Still get goosebumps and an odd feeling to the stomach when I think back to that day.
Whoever the security guard is, there's something really beautiful about her and there's part of me that really loves her to. I just hope that wherever she really is in the universe that she is okay. This video is so touching to think it was just days before. I've looked into all the names mentioned who the girl might be but am fairly sure she isn't any of them.
All of you saying “little did she know what would happen in a couple of days” We don’t know what is gonna happen in the next 50 seconds. Literally every second is a gift
She was cool AF.....remember the days before this happened and we weren't always suspicious of everyone? We all got along for a period of time! I wish it was still like that and kids now got to enjoy those times like I did!
It's amazing how society is conditioned to think after something like this happens. Nobody's the same after that. I'm a child from the 80's and I too remember nothing was what it is today.
I was born in 1977 and could go outside and play in the 80s with neighborhood kids and not get snatched. Sure shit went down but people seemed to have a little more of a conscience back then! I was early 20s when this happened and this changed shit for me
plenty of kids can still do that now u need to stay off the internet if you think the world is really that bad its no better or worse its just every bad thing that happens these days is filmed and put straight on the the web for everyone to see
Shaun Maguire Haha not the town I live in, Tampa fl where you have cops coming door to door with the pics on a flyer of the pedos and warning you to not let your kids be by themselves. Not from the internet my friend!!
i was born in 2003. i wish i could’ve known a world like this. where people weren’t hostile and suspicious and hateful towards one another all the time and you could step outside without feeling like you could get shot at any moment. my grandmother tells me about how in the fifties you could be outside all day without anyone needing to surveil you for any reason and your mother would shout your name through the open door when it was time for dinner. what happened? what changed? why is everyone so tense all the time? why is security always being ramped up regardless of necessity? are things ever going to go back to “normal”? i hope i live to see the world be like this again.
Everyone has descent into insanity my friend, Wars, Economic crisis, Being resentful to things that happened decades ago, It's sad but it's the reality
Watching this again on September 3, 2023. Can't believe it's been 22 years now. Time really goes by fast. Condolences and prayers to all the people who lost a family member, a friend, a partner on 9/11. Even though life goes on I'm sure there are many who still grieve to this day and maybe deal with Mental Health issues. I remember watching the news when I was 9 years old and seeing the Twin Towers attacked, it was on every channel. I'm from Toronto Canada so I didn't know how iconic the Original World Trade Center was to New York even when I'd see it in movies like Home Alone 2 or Jungle 2 Jungle. The new Tower, my opinion, got nothing on the Twin Towers but I understand as time goes by there will be changes. RIP to all the victims, and RIP to Max Friedenberg who made this video.
“I don’t make me nervous” just feels so Erie how unaware how different the world was going to be after 8 days. People were much less pent up with anger and back then. The good old days.
Maybe it's the fact that somepart of you it's still stuck in there, because it reminds you of something that happend in the past to you in that period.
I feel like this man is a time traveler, the way he answered about why he was filming them seems kinda weird. "This is a joke to all the kids that like to start crap"
Something is definitely off about him. Why did he randomly just film this and go right to the Towers and talk about being a character and asking weird questions lol.
They say if you could time travel still don’t change the past, it’s a horrible thing but idk man I’d leave it vs change the world today in idk what way

what a nice security guard,I really hope she survived or didnt work that day..so strange seeing this..doesnt feel that long ago when it was like this..
+Kenny Dominic Generally speaking, the construction and destruction of those towers weren't long ago. On a cosmological scale of time they came and went in the blink of an eye; a unique, short-lived existence. Only on a crazy little blue planet called Earth, do its (intelligent?) inhabitants create and destroy such a brilliant site of ingenuity. Only on Earth does the most significant event of a millennium get labelled as taboo, such that nobody ever dares reflect on the historic event that changed the face of this planet and its people. Only on our planet are we confined to think within a box... those who escape the box are shunned for it.
Very sad. This woman was Denise Conley, she was filmed holding the door open for firemen entering the building on 9/11. She perished when they collapsed. Brave woman.
Seems almost like another world. The security lady was very gracious, and I read from other commentators that she was not among the victims, which is great. These were elegant buildings, which we will never forget.
+Eon Hardy That's always a strange thing to imagine in all of these videos that are before 9/11; they have absolutely no knowledge at all about that day and they haven't learned about a possible event like that in any way. Nowadays 9/11 is common knowledge and something that everyone is familiar with, but back then that day didn't exist - "September 11, 2001" was just an ordinary random day of that year to most of the world up until 8:46 AM in Manhattan. Of course, they did know about the bombings in 1993, but that was pretty much "the worst attack on WTC ever" before 9/11.
Possum Boy You got that right. We in the comments are just lucky enough to still be alive. For all we know, today or tomorrow could be a horrific, tragic event...
Eon Hardy If you think about it, the same applies to us. We don’t know what awaits us in the coming months, weeks, days, or even hours. The future is never a certainty.
That's because we are on edge now & It's a totally different world we now live in. Personally I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone & I just want to wake up & go home! However I do thank God that I was born in the 70s & that I can remember a much different world. Yeah we had our problems but it was nothing like it is now.
This woman is NOT Denease! She is at least 10 years younger for a start! She looks nothing like her. Lighter skinned, more refined features and an obvious lack of long dreads, which Denease had on the day of the attacks (there is a video of her on 9/11). Someone further down has mentioned this woman's surname is Perez. That's a start. As for the comments requesting someone zoom in and view her I.D badge...well, as the person who recorded this footage passed away 2 years ago, that will now be next to impossible. Hopefully 'Perez' is still alive and well somewhere.
@@molotovb Only buildings 1,2 and 7 collapsed (showned and mentioned in the video), the others were partially damaged. ___ Rise to the level of "ironic", probably not, however it is suspect.
It’s so crazy how everyone was alive that day. People that are no longer living were working in the World Trade Center that exact second and weren’t even thinking their life would end a couple of days later. The flight attendants were alive. The families and the kids were still alive. The pilots were alive. The people at the pentagon were alive. I was only three months old and had no clue about anything. Rest In Peace 💔
It's haunting that the people in this video could have died. It's also haunting that the person filming this video has also passed. I hope the police lady is still thriving in life.
Look at all the people there. On the streets, on the benches and around everywhere. No smartphones in their hands. No urge to check whos posting pics or status. Thank you for your beautiful post. I was born and raised in NEW YORK CITY. My mom & older sister worked on the 95th floor of the North Tower, Tower 1, the one with the Antennae. And you capture the true spirit, heart and soul of the WTC & it's community. It's just as I remember. A Beautiful, average day, with lots of people & visitors sitting and mulling around, w/the Music from the Winter Garden playing and to quote the Legendary Eagles. "A Peaceful, Easy Feeling". Thank you, again.
Me too. No skinny jeans, no leggings as pants, no ugly pastel hair and not a hipster in sight. Malls were still in their prime (as well as BlockBuster) and it was still normal to shop at major retail chains like Sears and Kmart. Amazing how so much can change in less than 20 years...
@@unassumingaccount395 Leggings are far more revealing, you can literally see their entire form and their fat bouncing around when they walk. Wearers of leggings are practically bottomless.
The security guard in the South Tower told people to remain in the building because he had just watched a man get decapitated by falling debris from the North Tower. He thought it was just a private plane that accidentally hit one of the towers. He didn't think it would ever be a coordinated attack. Unfortunately, it likely led to more loss of life in the South Tower. So tragic.
@@stormcuber2461 the announcement made was that their tower was secure so they could go back to work, which some people did. Man I'm still trippin over how I was just there 4 days before it went down. I was on a trip there visiting from the west coast and I was supposed to leave a week before that so I decided to stay one more week. That last day, my aunt who lived in Staten Island took me around the city and took me there at night. I went to the restroom at the mcdonalds across the street and I couldn't help but marvel at how tall these buildings were from the ground up. Of course I didn't go inside but dang it was crazy to see that. 4 days later I wake up and turn on the news and next thing I know, these buildings were on fire. On another note, I know this security officer acted kinda masculine, but there is something rather attractive about her nonetheless. I'm with the people who say I hope she didn't die in the attack. She seemed like one cool lady.
I was there around this time. I was cabin crew on British Airways Glasgow, Boston New York with a stopover in NY. A couple of us went to WTC lower mall, and there was a beautiful male security guard on the door, and he and I made eye contact and there was a connection. A bit of flirtation for a few moments, then I left. I often, OFTEN think about that gorgeous man and what happened to him. I hope he made it
I remember accompanying my father a week before 9/11 when he had to drop off some paper work at the south tower. I was only 8 yrs old in 2001 but I remember being in the plaza by that fountain and deciding to look up (I had only seen the WTC from afar and never up close) and when I did my eyes just kept going up and up and I remember saying “Wow!” I couldn’t believe how massive those buildings were. I remember touching the steel facade and looking at all the different flags in lobby. I often think about the people I saw that day and wondering if any of them possibly Lost there lives... 😔
I was 27 & but spent my early career working in WTC. I recall clearly salsa dancing on the Plaza the Friday leading into the weekend. I got a cold, went to work on Monday, but took off that Tuesday. Survivor's guilt is real. To this day I miss all of my mentors & friends.
What really creeps me out is that if you listen closely you can hear "elevator music" playing in the background....If you watch the footage of 9/11, when they show the towers before they fall, you can hear the same elevator music in the background. They had music playing in that area between the two towers where the big gold ball sculpture was. Very creepy to me. I Wonder if the nice lady security guard Survived the 9/11 attacks?
Janell Bauer Yes I know exactly what you’re talkn about! One video after the towers fell, you can still hear that same music. It’s dark and full of debris and paper and dust and people are walking around covered in it

It's sad to see this video, knowing that it portrayed the last days of normal life in America. Being from NYC, the attacks hit me very hard. RIP to all the victims.
+Danny Leo Same here, Danny. I am from NJ, and I graduated in 2001 also, and I used to go up to NYC after class and just drive around, almost every week, or take PATH to visit a guy I knew who worked for the PA and died that day. It was always a fun little "adventure" during high school to just take off and go explore the city by myself. I was planning on going there that week, actually. My birthday is Sept 14, and I used to enjoy going for lunch or dinner in the city and just walking around experiencing the city. I miss the old NYC before the whole world changed...So sad.

Yes it did. But social media really pushed it over the edge.

That's always a strange thing to imagine in all of these videos that are before 9/11;
they have absolutely no knowledge at all about that day and they haven't learned about a possible event like that in any way.

Take me back at least 20 years. Where’s Doc Brown’s DeLorean when we need it the most?
That security guard was probably really suspicious about this guy eight days later.
She died

I remember talking with this security guard, when I was at the WTC in August of 2001. I hope she made it
She survived
What did you two talk about? I'm sure she was very nice to you. And what was it like visiting the Twin Towers?
She was telling me about the observation deck, And just some general info about the towers. It was
An Awsome experience.
She looks pretty & beautiful
She has a beautiful voice too
& never forget what happen to the Twin Towers
& it's really sad that what happen at the World Trade Center
That lady's beautiful, hope she's alright.
she's really striking looking, apparently she's still alive.
What a cool Security Guard!! Need more people in the world like her ❤️
i love how at the base of the 2 towers they have those tree like columns that just rise up to the clouds
What a beautiful lady, so pretty and I adore her voice and accent. 😍
So surreal to see a time where everyone could be nice just talking to each other. Those days are long gone.
Yeah how exactly? Seems like people live in this bubble where everything was soooooooo amazing back in the day, nothing bad ever happened, everyone was like from the fucking truman show smiling at each other. There has always been assholes and there will always be assholes. I can still have a good conversation with a person just as i could 15 years ago, if someone can't, well maybe that's on them.
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
@@dannymain542 You missed the point. American society is now fractured, tribal. Divided we fall.
Danny Main tribalism is a big factor for why people cannot get along nowadays. Honestly, I’m a believer in live and let live, but not a lot of people want to do so.
I call them “Giants in the Sky”...thanks for posting such historical footage.
It's unfortunate that such beautiful buildings had to be destroyed and that all those people had to lose their lives, all for nothing.
