New York City Revealed: World Trade Center
The Twin Towers were icons on the New York skyline. Then, in the course of one September morning, they were gone. What followed was more than two decades of competing visions and continual setbacks that finally culminated in the city’s newest landmark.

Thanks for sharing Kerry Irvine's story. I can't imagine the pain she felt losing her sister. I'm glad she's doing okay these days.
The opening statement of the lady who lost her sister is so very true. I had no desire to go down to that area and would only go if I absolutely have to. Now I work in the old financial center across the street and it’s such an eerie feeling. The area is so beautiful but it just doesn’t feel right to have all the tourist walking around snapping pics. It’s weird
Error: The towers in the thumbnail are spaced too far apart.
True, they're like 1000 feet apart lol
Yeah, it's pretty bizarre.
It looks like that’s right when the first plane hit but your right they look far apart but this looks taken from the East
It's just a frail thumbnail sense, don't gotta hate the whole video for the thumbnail (even if just bizarre and wacky needless Photoshop)
Looks AI generated
I went up the Observation Tower back in '78,just walking into the entry was impressive, gigantic. From the top you had a view of 50 miles every direction, coming down in a huge elevator it dropped you like a stone, your belly was still on the top floor, loved it.
What happened I'll never forget. It literally ripped a hole in the aura and soul of this country. On another note, we can't forget about Philippe Petit who walked a tightrope between the Twin Towers in 1974 SEVERAL times and is still alive today.
There was also a guy who climbed straight up one of the twin towers back in 1977. Once he reached the roof, he was promptly arrested.
There is a really great movie about him called The Walk. Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays Petit
Petit is a legend, the movie called The Walk is a wonderful tribute to the towers
weakkkkkk
The World Trade Center can’t be the World Trade Center without the towers
I'm an Aussie guy and I agree with you. I love the new tower but why didn't they just build 2 of the new towers in the footprints of the originals? I lost a friend in Tower 1. I had friends over and all of a sudden a news break came on and we watched the whole thing live.
The towers will never return exactly the way they were, and I think that's a good thing, even if they could build them back the same, why would anyone want to see them again after what happened to the originals, I think it would be almost scary to see them again in real life, you can see them all day long in photos if you want to, the other problem would be finding the same materials they used to build the towers, a lot of those materials are not made anymore.
@@snickerinmuttley1204 Or just build another Freedom Tower. They would be twins, but they look different than the originals. A modern version of what was once there.
@@robertramirez1082 That's a really good idea, only problem is they can't find tenants to fill the ones they've built already. One World Trade isn't even at full capacity roughly 10 years after completion, that's why they can't build 2 World Trade, and I think 5 hasn't been built either, they need an anchor tenant, and can't find one. I think One World Trade is a beautiful building, but I wouldn't want a high up office in there after 9/11,
@@snickerinmuttley1204 But WTC is still planned to be built. All I'm saying is choose a better design. That stacked box design is just ass. Plus people are already high up in the offices of One World Trade Center as we speak The exact same height as the old WTC 1 to be exact.. Life must go on. Js..

i think about 9/11 nearly every day in some way.. i feel like that was the day that my whole universe was flipped and it hasn't flipped back ever since.
i've actually been in the towers and went up to the rooftop observation deck. i was only 13 at the time, but i've always been fascinated by supertall skyscrapers from a very young age and that was where i wanted to go, when i was on a family NYC trip in 1997.
this may sound overly dramatic, but i think a part of me, my innocence, and my bright outlook for the future died when i saw the towers fall on TV that day.
It was a big metaphorical and tangible impact. The towers were the most eye-catching buildings in existence. Then 9/11 happens and they get imprinted in your mind even harder. Then half of New York wants to rebuild them, and what happens? A corrupt friendship between Pataki (governor of NY at the time) and the architect of the new 1 WTC causes them not to rebuild. So corruption causes us to waste trillions on a war in Iraq and Afghanistan, and corruption allows the terrorists to alter our skyline forever. Very understandable to feel like innocence and hope has died.
Kerry Irvine’s story was sooo sad but has a ray of hope that I hope she can continue to heal from 🥺
Uh, the Twin Towers were not that far separated like in the thumbnail.
As a New Yorker my whole life and as a person who was on canal Street that day then volunteered for a month and my father was a first responder and my sister worked in the trade center, they should have just rebuilt the same two towers!! They were are skyline
That’s what I say

I agree that a memorial was a better idea to respect ALL the heroes that day.
For some reason you got the time wrong in your version. It was 1 hour 68 minutes and they were gone.
They should’ve just rebuilt the towers behind the old footprints and made them taller and out of different material but hey I’m not in charge.
Trump actually suggested that, in 2002
Trump actually suggested that, in 2002
@@quietq1631Trump suggested building the new revamped versions directly on top of the old footprints. @rewelldrums is saying they should have built them farther back behind their original footprints, which would have probably been more acceptable to people.
@@jus10lewissrTrumps plans were not to build on the original footprints. Any plans or photos will show you that. He wanted to build a memorial around the footprints that replicated the old towers.
Yeah good idea except for the fact that if they did that, there could be another event. Obviously because of how safe cockpits are now it’s such a low chance but I wouldn’t take the risk
Buddy fix your thumbnail, literally everything about it is wrong, is an actual picture of the event not enough?
god bless America ,, im Canadian im 69 years old married in 1978 we have 4 adult kids ,, the first time we were in NY as a family it was in 84 and i have a picture of at that time a picture of our son and daughter with the back ground of the twin towers,, wow , i just found it last year,, also ive been going to NY with my parents since 1960,, i remember when i was 7 yrs old my dad and mom took my to the empire state building and my dad put the palm of my hand on the wall of the empire building , i never new it was like a marble wall,, love to share this story ,, god bless America
I’d have liked the twin towers to have been rebuilt as they were before 9/11. I was lucky enough to go up to the viewing platform when I visited in the late 1980s & was really impressed by them. I can’t say I’m a fan of the new freedom tower but nothing stands in the way of progress
Same, went out on the roof in 1987
What about Building 6 or 6 WTC there’s no plans to rebuild that and the pattern for the buildings skip out 6 completely, will it be a later development or will 6 WTC be completely forgotten about
it will probably be like 7 wtc, that was built 20 years after the twins
As a person who walked around the twins as they were still finishing final demo , I physically could feel the air and the whole aura change in the footprint of the towers . I know I didn’t imagine that feeling and others had to feel it as well.
Kenneth Lewis is right. You can actually feel it when you walk through the memorial. It’s like the air itself is different
Portland and Atlanta are similar in the fact that they both really shine in their historic, Streetcar, close-in neighborhoods. When are you coming to Atlanta?
Here's hoping they can eventually get buildings 2 and 5 built. Though I'm not sure about 5 being a residential space, it should be a hotel like the old 3 was.
Tragic.😢
Nice vid
Its weird building 7 became tower 7 on 9/11 and it was still standing while a BBC reporter talked about how the building fell . Also , there was a security guard in building 7 that saw some people planting explosives in it

7/11 was a part time job.
I know exactly where I was when we heare the first plain hit the south tower and the live images the second plain hit. The first news was at 2:50 pm in the Netherlands.
What is quite disturbing is almost everybody working at Ground Zero after the towers collapsed, are very very ill today, because of all that dust, especially the asbestos dust... 😢
What a coincidence right after Silverstein bought it 💔
God Bless❤😭
Algorithm. Science. The Milky way galaxy.
It should have been a memorial remember numerous people were never recovered they were all mixed up with the concrete and steel ruins RIP
Beautiful building 🏙, beautiful city 🌃, Great video 👍👍
Why did you use AI for the thumbnail? It isn't like you couldn't find a good photo of the real event
...
They made it look real because most people would see it and think its footage they've never seen before. Kinda cheap
Does NYC REALLY need more office buildings? I get it; you need financing, but why not build more housing which is desperately needed versus pffice nuikdings whice remain largely empty these days?
It's hard to describe how awesome the Manhattan skyline looked with the twin towers. As amazing of a skyscraper that 1 World Trade Center is, it's nowhere near as majestic as the twin towers.
I really like the Freedom Tower, for the most part, and the way it was constructed/engineered internally is brilliant. I do wish they would have built two of them and offset them in the same diagonal fashion as the original towers, though I definitely understand that they lacked the space needed, being that they needed so much room for the reflective pools where the original towers had once stood. I just wish there would have been a way to have the reflective pools where they are and still build two identical "twin" Freedom Towers.
A part of the video got me thinking:
20:22 When they reconstructed the site in the late 2000s, they added streets back that hadn't been there since the late sixties/early seventies. The site of the twin towers ultimately caused them to complete delete one or two of the existing streets at the time for extra space. Looking at the image shown, they could have technically built a new twin set of towers on that site, staggered over a bit so as not to impose on the area the original towers had been. I get why no one wanted to give up the spots where they built the other towers in the complex, but they surely could have figured out a way to construct "twin" towers and still allow room for other buildings and the reflective pools. The World Trade Center complex as a whole is pretty large altogether, and I'm grateful for the Freedom Tower, but it's still disappointing that they didn't build two of them.
Especially considering the fact that they haven't even found enough tenants yet for the final tower that they've yet to build. Being that there isn't enough tenants to fill up seven buildings, finding the space to create two twin towers wouldn't have been difficult.
you guys really needed to use AI to create the thumbnail? the towers look so far apart it’s ridiculous. extremely disrespectful to those that died that die and their families and honestly pathetic.
I was wondering why they looked so far apart.
What the hell is with the thumbnail for
Nordstrom Tower is taller. So is 1 Vandy and 432 Park, and the new Chase tower and Steinway tower
Sears Tower is taller as well, Nordstrom tower is the tallest building in the U.S. Oklahoma City wants to build a new tallest building at 1,902 feet.
Why did the NYC planners/authorities allow taller towers? I always thought the NYC skyline was the most beautiful in the world. When I went back there in 2022 and just recently again, those new taller towers look ugly, and ruin the skyline. Especially the skinny ones.
@@MikePhillips-pl6ovpre 9/11 skyline was prime nyc
Wtf is that thumbnail? why did they place the towers so far apart
Ai generated thumbnail
What’s the point of the thumbnail looking all weird?
Unlike most every other sites world wide, the rubble from both buildings which entombed the remains of over 2500 people was removed to a carefully chosen site as with the rest of the world when faced with similar tragedy the rubble is placed upon ground consecrated by officials from all religions and faiths, once all rubble is accounted for, then the rubble is covered with again consecrated earth, forming a tranquil place the living could gather to mourn knowing there lost family are resting in hallowed ground. The city of NY transported the rubble from both towers to the city dump.... Families for years after combed the surface of the dump, finding human bones visit after visit to the place not blessed that their lost family were dumped. My heart still you heavy.
I hope Kerry is doing ok 😢
Noo yo si necesito ver las mismas torres gemelas, hoy deberian ser re proporcionadas a la ciudad actual para que den el mismo aire que daban antes, ganarian en robustes y altura pero que se vieran igual, con mejoras tecnologicas

There is one new wtc building.

There are a lot of places I will never visit simply because of the atrocities that took place there.
My first time playing MINE CRAFT ... The first thing I did was REBUILD THE WORLD TRADE CENTER .
At 5:20 it says they "quickly" became an iconic part of the NY skyline. Any of the locals from there knows the real truth. They weren't warmly accepted for a minimum of 20 years.
That doesn’t contradict that. The residents might have seen them as ugly, still from a us- or even worldwide perspective there were iconic for the city and for many they were the first thing to think about when someone talked about NYCs skyline.
@@OhmeinGottVIICNot true at all, most New Yorkers never cared for these buildings, people just got used to them being there and naturally accepted that they’d be there ‘forever’. If you aren’t from New York don’t say what they felt about them.

When did the steel ever melt??
I know your gonna completely ignore this but
Building 3-6 where crushed from the falling debris
Building seven had severe damage from debris smashing into the side of it and uncontrollable fires
The church was hit by falling debris crushing it
The steel *trusses* did not melt but instead weakened and deformed which caused it to pull the perimeter columns inwards so it could no longer support the weight above

Hey Larry Silverstein, we know you demolished the trade center on purpose, we know about how there was thermite planted in the elevator shaft, we know that the specific floors that got hit by the towers were being renovated with a very explosive and flammable paint, we know that you mentioned how there's so much unused room that it deemed the building useless, we know you demolished it because it couldn't be wired for the Internet, even though it could, just look at the sears tower. The building was built to sustain multiple large aircraft crashes. Also after the plane hit, why did it randomly start falling apart? The bottom half of the building could withstand the top half of the building, even if it fell off, it couldn't have destroyed all of the bottom half, every force has an equal and opposite reaction.

One World Trade Center is built really well! I always felt they should build another one with an open observation deck on the roof like the original WTC 2 had. What can be more beautiful than two of them? The design is already in front of them with all the same safety features like the re-enforced core to allow for better evacuation, and blast proof pedestal , and in my opinion is the best looking design compared to what is being presented (please whatever you do please don't build the stacked box design🤮)! Having twins again would show resilience. Freedom (west tower), and Resilience (east tower) ??? As long as it's ok with the family's of those we lost that day. Imagine seeing two identical towers down town again. 9/11 was not the result of building too big. It was the result of non existent airport security. If we had the security measures we have today that tragedy would have never happened. The terrorist hated the way we live, and wanted to change that forever. We should never let them win.
