Build a small "house" (roof, 4 walls and no floor + hole acting as door) for the rat that contains the trap, he'd feel much safer taking the bait inside an inclosure than having to venture that far out. Rats like to stick to places where they feel safe. You usually see them running along the walls and not out in the open so just placing the traps as close to the wall as possible would also be better.
It's a really nice full-circle. She was super friendly when she was just born, and then Morgan went on vacation and she was skittish afterward. Been nice seeing her love Morgan's company
I can’t believe you caught the elusive Toby Dog book on trail cam. It’s usually much more sneaky. It wanted to get caught - look at the cheeky pose even.
I love watching what is going on with you and your happy animals. My mother would walk the fence lines each day to determine if they were electrified. One day, she discovered a break in the fence with the herd of Holsteins waiting to get into the corn. She stood in the gap to deter this. Meanwhile, at the kitchen table, sat my father and brother discussing the day. They chatted for about 20 minutes, wondering why their lunch was not forth coming. Finally, they discovered Mother's plight.
I start binging and realize I forgot to hit the 👍! Even worse, thank you for letting me see your beautiful farm and animals! ❤️ I love watching and enjoy them so much! ❤️ Abby and Toby are beautiful ❤️!
Morgan, that 30-second clip with the birds in the pond and the music from "Nocturne" at 6:45 was lovely. I use that tune whenever I need a two-minute meditation/relaxation. It's wonderful.
Hi Morgan! My son had a little doe drop twin babies but she totally rejected them. Her milk came in two weeks ago but now she’s dry! No wonder she’s rejecting them. No hormones and no milk. So two baby goats to bottle feed. They are adorable but that’s a lot of work for a few weeks. Farm life!!❤❤❤
Yep, the ladies look like their time is getting really close (bet they wish they could hold on until Spring). Guess it's official, the ducks insist on sharing the little green house, too funny. Can't believe you are still getting snow ❄️. Everything looks alive and well at Gold Shaw Farm. Thanks Morgan for the update!🐕🐈🥚🐓🦆🐄❤️👍
There was a den of coyotes living on my neighbor's farm growing up. Their den was in a sand hill close to the pond in the back 40 where we would sometimes camp in the summer. It was like there was a mutual respect - we didn't both them, they didn't both us or the cattle herds. On summer evenings sometimes we'd hear them yap and yowl to their sister band in the next farm over. (the two packs were related) It was really neat!
I live in a the Los Angeles coastal town of Redondo Beach and we've got a new coyote den not one block from where I live. It is literally, in a well-covered hillside which separates it not 30-feet from an elementary school playground. Fortunately, as is usually the case, they are very smart and keep it on the downlow during the day. However, I do hope that the school realizes the "teaching moment" when the pups start venturing into the daylight in the next couple of weeks.
Do you know what I love a lot about Your channel?? Is you show the beautiful side of almost everything... I love the beautiful music with the ducks & geese swimming peacefully. I know for those of us who have owned ducks & geese, I know how dirty and messy and yuk they can be... so I love that you show the beautiful side also.
Watching the ducks arrive at the entrance of the weird chicken coop, legs splayed and looking around confused at first has to be one of my new favorite things to happen on the farm! 😂❤
Our hens managed to sneak a new baby into the flock this month. Really pushing how early considering only one of these hidden eggs survived, sadly three others didn't make it more then half way. So now we have a single frost chick. To cold half the day without momma but momma knows that
867,000 subs?! Congratulations, Morgan. You’ll have 1,000,000 before too long, and that’s well earned and also rewarding to see. You’ve taken a lot of people on your journey, and you having such success heartening. I didn’t note the subscription numbers when I first found Gold Shaw Farms at the start of Covid, but it was one of your first years, before pigs, before cows, and before the barn. We saw the drama with the hound hunters start and crop up on occasion. We saw you, Morgan, change in all kinds of ways, as we’ve all changed over the last 5 years or so. I’ve been rooting for you, and I’ll smile when I see your subscription numbers over a million. …soon.
I've had success catching rats with 2 methods. One is with a Havahart trap for small rodents. I put it in one of their travel lanes or by where their hole is and use something to corral them though it. Kinda like gates for a cattle chute. The second method is a weasel box that I built from a design I found on TH-cam. I used a snap trap inside the box. That one it took time for the rat to feel comfortable going inside the box, but did eventually catch 2 rats with the weasel box. Hope this helps and good luck!
Tip for your bikes: Do a maintenance every half a year, like in spring and in autumn. that would include lubing all moving parts, as well as checking every part, that wears down over time. Also, when you get a flat tire, make the tire inflatable yourself. You just need to get a new tube, cut the vlave off of the old tube and lay the old tube into the tire, before you put in the new tube. This way, you´ll give the tire some extra layers, until the active tube can be pierced by anything. Hope, you´ll continue doing well ^^
I’m so glad you talk about the benefits of coyotes. Your forest is so beautiful and home to many animals, I hope you don’t cut down the trees. Pastures can have trees in them. The cows will love them. I know they reduce grass in the immediate area but nothing is sadder than a cleared forest and tree less pasture.
Spent a few minutes this morning visiting Gold Shaw farm. So relaxing, what a sweet time with the animals, in the country, listening to Farmer Morgan tell his interesting, funny stories about life on the farm. I left happy, relaxed, renewed as I always do. Thanks Morgan, all the best to you and Alison…. thanks to you and fur-feather friends. I’ll❤ be back soon.
Thanks for the reassurance that the chickens are getting plenty of the feed! One less thing to keep me awake at night! Now, if I could just stop worrying about Templeton being a pregnant female... Love Gold Shaw Farm.
You were talking about how all the stress vanished when you were out there in the back pasture. That's the kind of feeling it gives me as viewer of your videos, feels serene.
Try different treats on the snap trap if you use it I’ve put leftover red clam linguine sauce on them after peanut butter didn’t work they apparently love red clam sauce
Hey Morgan - Rest assured, even if the video didn't capture the entire essence of that incredible forest/creek spot, watching your days with the animals is plenty of joyful stress relief for us!!
Looking at the beautiful nature behind your farm is something I love I always loved nature and can't wait to hike in it one day It's so beautiful and peaceful
10:20 I stand by my theory that Templeton is nesting to have babies, until proven wrong :P 16:30 Absolutely in love with the slides idea ! It was concise and fun at the same time.
The part of your property you took us to where snow was still on the ground was absolutely magical. I had visions of the Narnia movie…the title isn’t coming to my brain right now. Thank you for showing us that special corner of your land. Love from Florida 💕🙏☀️🐶🤗
Morgan, I just finished your Toby Dog of Gold Shaw Farm book. Your story writing is well done. I am a retired school teacher. The story line and use of higher vocabulary every couple pages gives a young reader an opportunity to look up and learn new words. Loved the suspense of the antagonist. I will be donating my copy of your book to the local library for others to enjoy. Thanks for sharing the life and times of your farm.
I Lv your property along with the wildlife! I lived in Lyndeborough NH for a while. I would see and hear all those animals too. Down the street a lady owned tigers, I'd hear the roar, which was different! It was such a beautiful area, I miss it still!
Hey Morgan. Look into using cornmeal and baking soda as bait. Rodents cannot burp or fart like the birds, dogs, cats, and cattle. While it is not quick, it is one of the better non-dangerous rodent management baits. I use it for mice in my house. I leave the outdoor mice for our barn cats.
Loved the trail camera shots! You should should show them more often, and a few videos off you hunting would be also cool to see, the forest part off the Farm is awesome
ABBEY IS A BAD ASS . Always has been since she was a pup. From what I remember she made a cool transition up to the cattle fields. Grew up lovely. Abbey is a bad ass !!
I've been following your channel for years. I just moved to New England a year ago from Illinois. I live in Worcester, MA. I drove up to Burlington, VT, to see the eclipse. I am shocked to learn that it rains "a lot" in New England. Boston feels like the Seattle of the East. 😅
Try feeding you chickens well cooked beans with a bit of whole grain pasta. Let it absorb all the water. It fills up the chickens better and gives them amazing protein. If you cook it in a huge pot you can store it in the fridge for the week to feed them every day. It increased our egg production and made the chickens happier.
I had a parked trailer on a farm that sage rats got into. They are larger than Templeton. I used an electric tat trap. It shocks them quickly so I felt better about it being instant death. I caught several and one was so big I could hardly get it out. It worked great. 25 or 30 $. Good luck!
At night remove food & water bowl in silky pen. Set the traps along the wall of the building either side of the rat hole. Rat will feel safer if it can sneak along side the building rather than getting out in the open.
Hi Morgan, I used to raise geese (mainly Embdens), Rabbits and Chickens for 4-H, and later in Open Showing, back when I was young. I truly enjoy your videos because they remind me of those times. Looking forward to many more of your adventures.
Have you tried a "Rat Zapper"? They aren't cheap, but they have an electric plate. It is a humane way to get those critters. I've used them (but i only had mice) for years. If you look them up, you can find real feed back. Good luck!
Very nice Morgan. Thank you. You read my mind about Toby and Abby's fur. I was wondering if you ever have to clean them up in between groomer visits..Love seeing the rest of your property and learning about the animal tracks. Maybe the rat needs to smell coyote pee in his spot and he will stay away.
I find putting glue traps in the places they walk so they've no choice but to walk over it is the best way to catch them, obv you dispatch them as soon as you notice rather than leaving them on the trap. You can also release them from the trap by pouring cooking oil over it and it'll unstick them. In the case of your rat putting the trap directly infront of the hole where the rat emerges from is where I'd put it. Also using the glue traps that don't have an edge sticking upright, just a flat trap so it' level with the ground is best. Infact the glue traps i usually use aren't even made for rats they're made for bugs, but they're flat like a piece of paper so they work best.
I love seeing the wildlife on your property, especially that you respect the animals and give them somewhat safe territory. Especially the wonderful bear. Thanks Morgan❤
Man Baby B went from skittish as hell to friendly quickly Also, thanks for giving us some farmdog brushing I`ll keep asking, ad infinitum Please release the 20min uncut Farmdog grooming/brushing video!
I just watched a video on rat "poison." He mixed half jiffy cornbread mix and half baking soda. He said it works great, and if another animal eats the carcass, it won't hurt that animal.
Look at Shawn Woods TH-cam video about the The Ouell 4-11 Snap Trap It is a oversized snap trap for rats and squirrels I used to have rat problems where I kept the chicken and steer food I used a 4" conibear 110 , Duke also has them at a lower price But I made a wooden tunnel that the conibear trap was in to force the rats to go through to get the bait
For Templeton, the rat once again I’m going to recommend electronic rat traps the company. Viktor makes a great one. I use the mouse size ones myself and they’re amazing but they do make rat size as well.
Could we got a long term use review on the Ebike soon? I'm debating which one to buy myself. I need a suspension and a mounting bike frame. And I need capacity over speed.
Build a small "house" (roof, 4 walls and no floor + hole acting as door) for the rat that contains the trap, he'd feel much safer taking the bait inside an inclosure than having to venture that far out.

I'm relieved that Baby B is much friendlier with you. I can predict a long time friendship between you two!
I can predict that Baby B is going to have the most gorgeous coat on the farm with how much she's getting brushed lol
It's a really nice full-circle. She was super friendly when she was just born, and then Morgan went on vacation and she was skittish afterward. Been nice seeing her love Morgan's company
Cows are adorable and I love them
It's amazing how much Amanda has warmed up to you compared to last year when you got her!
I believe she was so skittish due to her being pregnant and being at a different farm with so many new things.
Oh those pics of animals were so cute! Bunnies! A chipmunk! A bobcat and coyotes. A raccoon! A deer! Adorable.
I can’t believe you caught the elusive Toby Dog book on trail cam. It’s usually much more sneaky. It wanted to get caught - look at the cheeky pose even.

Maybe let the cattle graze through the christmas tree pasture once or twice this year to thin out the brush and encourage grass growth?
Growing up on a farm, there’s nothing more tranquil than hearing the hustle and bustle of farm chores.
Music to my ears
You need a bucket trap! Bucket traps are the best!
Have you thought about having someone come in with a trained dog? There are several in New England with Jack Russell terrier ratters!
Oh lordy! I almost forgot! When you say release the quacken! It just lights up my day! ❤️❤️❤️ Thank you so much! ❤️

Hi...... Morgan thanks you for showing your video homestead bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋👍👍👍
I love that Greta the Duck has a squad.
Toby and Morgan wrestling/playing around is such a joy to see

Suggestion on rat: are there mink hunters there? They will take a mink and get him quick.
That would make a good video! Hiring a ferret to send into the tunnel!
Right!?! Road dent or row dent 🎉they call them 😂
@@Doylt wonder if the mink would wear a tiny camera, too! 😊
Hire Joseph Carter "The mink man"
Pour water with the hose into the mouse hole, it will come out quickly

Do you mean like the video or did they invite you to their farm?
In my imagination, it’s how I feel when I watch Morgan’s videos. Sorry if it wasn’t obvious… I wasn’t really there. It’s a “virtual”visit.
❤ You'll be very busy this spring, Morgan, with the new additions to your herd and egg hatching to your bird flocks. ❤
Love seeing the forest area, wish you took us back through there more often!
Thanks for the reassurance that the chickens are getting plenty of the feed! One less thing to keep me awake at night! Now, if I could just stop worrying about Templeton being a pregnant female... Love Gold Shaw Farm.

Lots of fun soon!! Hope all goes well with the birth of your new calves.
I love your choice of music! And all the goose 😃
Cool shots from your trail camera 👍
That cow pen next to the old barn needs a huge clean out.
10:20 I stand by my theory that Templeton is nesting to have babies, until proven wrong :P
16:30 Absolutely in love with the slides idea ! It was concise and fun at the same time.

Thanks for sharing the life and times of your farm.
Thank you. I needed a reminder that ALL the world isn't going crazy!
Sometimes, I watch other farm videos, and I love saying out loud, "Release the quackens!"
I loved seeing so much of your farm in this video! Very beautiful
Hi Morgan loving the channel
The diversity from the trail cam clip at the end was great to see.
So cool... Enjoy watching your videos.❤😊
I adore it when you walk back into your forest area, so thank you!
I Lv your property along with the wildlife! I lived in Lyndeborough NH for a while. I would see and hear all those animals too. Down the street a lady owned tigers, I'd hear the roar, which was different! It was such a beautiful area, I miss it still!
You can hear the tranquillity in your voice when you're in the woods. It did make me want to walk in the woods.😊
Farming is hard, unpredictable, and expensive, but it's very soothing to watch these videos!

Sounds cruel
The trail camera footage was nice, I always love to see bunnies! Seeing you brush the animals is always nice.
Merci Morgan!
Mr. Gold could u please make a follow-up video of jimmy hendricks? i think of him so much, he has a close place in my heart.
same i wish i could see him in real life
Agree! Understandable if new owners don't want their farm on TH-cam though. But let us know if he's a daddy yet!
Nice relaxing, interesting, video.
Loved the trail camera shots! You should should show them more often, and a few videos off you hunting would be also cool to see, the forest part off the Farm is awesome
Put the snap trap in a place that is more hidden. You could move it closer to the hole, they don’t like being exposed.
I absolutely enjoy your all over your property videos. Thanks for sharing ❤ from 🇨🇦

Morgan! TH-cam have not recommended a video for 2 months! I was so confused and this one popped up. Time to catch up on what's been happening.
Sometimes I expect you to say "Golly Gee Wally" lol I do appreciate your G rated channel.
The Charlie Brown tree that you showed is a good sort if you have large ornaments...it gives them space to hang nicely.
I can feel the love that you have about your land and animals wild and from your farm! Thank you for sharing!❤😊
Peppermint oil works well too!
I brought toby dogs book off amazon sendiing it to my grandaughter shes gonna love it congrats on everything ..
Enjoyed your show today. Love when you show us your developments and plans for the farm. Awesome. 😊❤
Hi Morgan, I used to raise geese (mainly Embdens), Rabbits and Chickens for 4-H, and later in Open Showing, back when I was young. I truly enjoy your videos because they remind me of those times. Looking forward to many more of your adventures.
I would put fur from my Pyrenees in a cage style suet feeder and birds would pull it in the spring to line their nests. It was so cool.
Morgan is a farm animal whisperer
Have you tried a "Rat Zapper"? They aren't cheap, but they have an electric plate. It is a humane way to get those critters. I've used them (but i only had mice) for years. If you look them up, you can find real feed back. Good luck!
Hey Morgan hope you are well and your wife as well ❤️🩹
Can't wait for next video 📷📸
Love you and your wife ofc the animals 💕😊
My animals say hi 😊
Very nice Morgan. Thank you. You read my mind about Toby and Abby's fur. I was wondering if you ever have to clean them up in between groomer visits..Love seeing the rest of your property and learning about the animal tracks. I love how the cows are doing well.
I just enjoy your work so much. Thank you Morgan.
Turkeys in my alley in Great Falls Montana this week😊
I find putting glue traps in the places they walk so they've no choice but to walk over it is the best way to catch them, obv you dispatch them as soon as you notice rather than leaving them on the trap. You have a really beautiful farm !
Man Baby B went from skittish as hell to friendly quickly
Also, thanks for giving us some farmdog brushing
I`ll keep asking, ad infinitum
Please release the 20min uncut Farmdog grooming/brushing video!
I have a house in Eden vt and I know what you mean by looking at the land also up there at night in the summer looking at the starts is so crisp
I loved the Toby Dog book!
I loved when you were going through the trail cam footage how you’re like coyote, Coyote, BUNNY!!! 😅
I just watched a video on rat "poison." He mixed half jiffy cornbread mix and half baking soda. He said it works great, and if another animal eats the carcass, it won't hurt that animal.
Look at Shawn Woods TH-cam video about the The Ouell 4-11 Snap Trap
It is a oversized snap trap for rats and squirrels
I used to have rat problems where I kept the chicken and steer food
I used a 4" conibear 110 , Duke also has them at a lower price
But I made a wooden tunnel that the conibear trap was in to force the rats to go through to get the bait
For Templeton, the rat once again I’m going to recommend electronic rat traps the company. Viktor makes a great one. I use the mouse size ones myself and they’re amazing but they do make rat size as well.
Aww I just love all your Silky Chickens! They are so beautiful!❤❤❤❤❤❤
Could we got a long term use review on the Ebike soon? I'm debating which one to buy myself. I need a suspension and a mounting bike frame. And I need capacity over speed.
