Clarinet Concerto in A major, K. 622, written in 1791.
00:00 - I. Allegro
12:32 - II. Adagio
20:32 - III. Rondo. Allegro
Of the works which Mozart composed for the outstanding Viennese clarinetist Anton Stadler (1753-1812), the Clarinet Quintet in A, K.581 (written in 1789), and the present Concerto in A, completed less than two months before the composer's death in 1791, are the crowning achievements. Work on the Concerto was started in 1789. Mozart originally intended the work to be for basset horn, but revised it for clarinet. However, the version widely known today differs from the work Mozart produced for Stadler, since the original version was written for an instrument with an extended bass compass that allowed Stadler to demonstrate his famed ability to play low notes. The transcription for standard clarinet (published ten years after Mozart's death) therefore requires an octave transcription of the notes that cannot be produced on it, which changes the color of the work.
The first performance was given by Stadler on 16 October 1791, not in Vienna, but at his benefit concert in the Prague Theatre. It therefore seems certain that the composer never heard the composition that has become one of his best known. Cast in the usual three movements, the gentle, nostalgic lyricism of much of the Clarinet Concerto has drawn such epithets as "valedictory" and "autumnal," an assessment that downplays the extraordinary vigor and verve of this inspired work.
4:45 - 4:58 Favourite part, with the strings underneath the soloist... Amazing
Can you imagine a world without Mozart?
Abslolutly no 🎶❤️
A world with Bach is all that is needed, so I can imagine a world without Mozart. Although I would prefer not anyways.
no !!
Non!
No of course
18:56 - 18:59 is one of the most beautiful bars of music Mozart wrote imo
i really agree with it
Definitely
Yesss
I think I'm convinced this is the most perfect piece of music ever written
me too
One of the bests recordings of Clarinet Concerto K.622
Can't get through this without welling up once or twice with the sheer beauty of the writing. Great performance too.
18:32 one of the most beautiful melodies/progressions ever
WOOOWWW!!! The 2nd movement sounds like film scores wouldn't have existed without Mozart. So charming.... so moving....
I can play the piece myself. Have also listened to countless versions countless times. The clarinet performance here is the best I have ever heard ! Congratulations !!
This piece always reminds me why I need to listen to more Mozart
The clarinet is so versatile! Such robust low notes and graceful high notes! And the dexterity of the technical passages
I wanna be a clarinet player now lol
If you don't want to suffer, don't play clarinet.
I play it 4 years now and the first year is just horrible...
The adagio is pure magic
Thank you for sharing! I had it on while I prepared lunch. It was so lovely. Cheers.
The suspension at 13:55 creates a minor ninth chord (if analyzed horizontally), and there's another one at 14:05. Love Mozart for getting creative with stuff like that!
Yeah well, it's unlikely that he thought of those as minor ninths (the very concept of dominant chords with minor ninth didn't exist at the time) but those passages still sound interesting anyway.
@@MR-gz9lm Yeah I totally agree with that, I put it down wrong in my comment. What I meant is simply that (for the very reason that chords started as voice movement and not as separate harmonic entities) what we have here is still more like an "embellishment minor 9th" - as you said - than an actual minor 9th chord. Anyway, in both instances I'd personally read that "minor 9th" as a note harmonizing the passing note in the bass line and not as part of the dominant harmony, but that's just me.
Beautiful performance ! Thank you for posting !
Che esecuzione splendida...
How not to envy clarinetists who got both this concerto and the quintet??
They also got the trio for piano, clarinet and viola k.498.
Thank you very much for sharing this fantastic work of Mozart!
So beautiful. Mozart in his prime
Brian Ellis Mozart was always in his prime
This is true.
As always
Willy FreshPpl Wrong, check his firsts symphonies and cry
Brian Ellis all his clarinet works are sublime. Listen to his romantic Clarinet Quintet and his marvellous "Bowling Alley" (Kegelstett) Trio K. 498. This works are perfect in their balance between the instrumental parts.
Beautiful piece, Mozart, one of the great masters! Thank you Joanne Philpot for introducing it to me!
1:33 - my favourite moment
Gorgeous performance- thank you!
I love how Mozart uses that simple violin motif for both movements 1 and 2. 7:00 and 12:36
That's just a regular accompanimental figure.
Merci pour ce moment précieux. 💫
17:16 ~ heaven
sounded comical, like a damn shiny rustbox
Mozart's music is enchanting!
Beautiful Basset Clarinet - Bravo, Bravissimo!
I will say thank you to olla-vogala for all the fine wodwindplayers he has taken care of. There are at the moment no recordings of klarinettist Reginald Kell-and bassoonist Brook after my taste these two stated the new way of playing these instrument. There is different tast..but can you try Sire?

Thanks for the upload.
had the pleasure of playing this piece with yosa and Anthony McGill. so much fun!
Grazie a te e grazie a Mozart. Pezzo stupendo, sublime. Adagio Is additive for me.
This is really the ultimate classical piece
Obrigado por mais esse tesouro. É bom ter essa partitura aqui.
+marcos aquino My pleasure, marcos!

Amazing
Perfection in all the ways. Motzar, for me, the God of the music. I love his incredible balance between the instruments, his amazing and not finish creativity. Without Mozart, I think, the world would be more grey than it is. God of universe save the God of music. 🎹
Wonderful ! One of my favorite works by Mozart.
which is your favourite Mozart's work ?
@@andantino5558 Mozart is not one of my favorite composers, I don’t listen to his music as much as romantic composers’ so I don’t really know. I would pick one of his operas if I really had to choice (Le nozze di Figaro or Don Giovanni). Which is yours ?
Magnificent!
Tchaikovsky said " Mozart is Sunshine".

A hymn to the positive energies of life imbued with joyfullness and celestial serenity. Reminds me that Mozart profoundly trusted în God.
Can anyone tell me? The original scores of Mozart, as of many of his genre must have consisted of sketches to include maybe 6 or so parts. Eventually these get transformed into the modern scores of exact precision to include sometimes 20 or so parts. How does this process occur? How does the final modern score creator able to claim direct, complete derivation from the composer such as Mozart? Or please provide me with a link.

WOLFIEEEE!!!
Soloist David Shifrin on basset clarinet. Mozärtlich !
Is it just me or is this very similar to Mozart Piano Concerto 23, in way of form & theme?
Honestly, most of his concerti are structurally very similar.
Same key, and same opening two notes
J- L. ABC it's interesting that the second movement is in the subdominant D, and Mozart frequently modulates to the subdominant throughout this work--a procedure common in the Romantic era, not so much in the Classical style of composition.
And the second movement introduction are look similar with Weber Concerto for Clarinet in F Minor

Is there a reason that you used the score without the basset clarinet when the recording uses one?
In the beginning when the orchestra begins, the clarinet does not need to play but on the score it is written to play, doubling the 1st violins. Why?
It's just to show the transposition. The clarinet never plays in that part and this is the first arrangement I have seen that shows that transposition.
24:23

12:33
6:44 Why is the clarinet playing in octave lower than written
Allen B this is being played on a basset clarinet. Not to be confused with the basset horn, two very different instruments 😊
The clarinetist screws up at 3:18 with the three eighth notes before the 16th note sequence. Still works however.
it's been a VERY long time since I played the clarinet. Are the higher or the lower notes more difficult?
Higher definitely
That's true unless you are a very tall player, in which case the lower notes are harder.
Higher, especially on A and B flat clarinets. I haven't played an A clarinet but I'm assuming it's rather similar to B flat. I've played E flat and B flat. The higher notes are slightly easier to play on the E flat or D piccolo clarinets.
Higher is much harder. A beginner who has played for 6 months could easily play the lowest note, but might not even be able to play above the break.
high
1:55 for y’all
Can anyone explain why the solo part uses no key signature?
The clarinet is transposed to A already
Is it common of people who do not have an A clarinet to play this concerto and transposed the clarinet portion to B? I think it will very difficult to do.
Thank you for replying. I do have a Bb Buffett Crampon Clarinet (Tradition model) and I do love this piece. I am a beginner for a Clarinet. Actually, I happened to find the Bb version for piano and clarinet. I think at this moment, this piece is too difficult if I have to play on a Clarinet. I agree, I can do it with Alto Sax.
if you're playing it by yourself or with piano, you can just play the notes as written on Bb clarinet. It will sound a half step higher, but that's fine. On the other hand, if you want to play this with orchestra you will need an A clarinet for sure. Every good clarinet player needs an A clarinet, though.
Thank again for the info!!! Damn, A Clarinet......
12 27 angels the best i am exited piazzolla

I thought the original solo part as written for basset clarinet had been lost. Is this a guess at what it might have been like, or is there a concrete source for the differences from the A clarinet version?
No concrete source. There is a lot of material available on this version for basset clarinet hypothetically reconstructed by the English clarinetist, Alan Hacker. See for example th-cam.com/video/xdVo0MsJMOc/w-d-xo.html
Man, Squidward got good.
