Possibly the piece had been inspired from kurt Atterberg's suite no 3 , what makes me feel like

Finzi knew how to torture a clarinettist and orchestra. His choice of keys are just horrible for soloist and orchestra. So many flats (and sharps). In the first movement , the clarinettist has 16 bars of one flat (D minor) before modulating into SIX FLATS!!!!! Yikes! and then there the first semiquaver run.. Maybe the soloist should be allowed to swap between a B flat and A clarinet.
I have played this and all in all, it's not that technically challenging for the solo clarinetist. Probably the hardest part is the that high A just at the very end, after those fast 'roulades'.
