    Phoibos make well designed watches. They are not "following the crowd" in my opinion. Love that.
    I like that they seem to be turning to the SW-200 movements ... Rock solid.
    As for that bezel, I like the clean look it provides, regardless if it does not have any function. Clean IS a function in my eyes.
    Happy for you that they reached out to you and great review my friend!

    I like it, a big step forward for Phoibos. Nice to see them maturing and expanding their design language and their tech parameters. I agree, the fixed bezel is a lost opportunity (24hr bezel, compass bezel, hello…), but this is such a cool micro take on the Tuna, I love it. The leather strap is dumb on this watch, but the robust rubber really works.

    Love the design. Kinda reminds me of the bottle cap/tuna case shape but Not another boring homage of a 1960s diver.

    Not sure I’d buy it but I quite like it!!
    I guess the fixed bezel could of been swapped for a GMT bezel but would of ruined the look I feel.
    One thing I did notice in your review was that at certain points the tip of the minute hand was almost lost when directly over the markers and because the rest of it is skeletonised it seemed to get lost!!!👍

    I love the roundness of the watch and the multilayer dial. But at 43.5mm plus 7mm double crowns, its oversized for me, even with internal lugs. I wouldn't feel comfortable with it so I let it go. This video helped me properly appreciate the watch, thanks!

  • @pktsqr

    So I'm looking at the initial dimensions and thinking about writing a comment asking whether it actually wears kinda like a shrouded Seiko ... And five seconds later you've got both on wrist for a visual comparison. Ha ha!
    Styling-wise not really to my taste, but Phoibos does a great job for the price, and I'm really fond of my Eagle Ray GMT.

    Hi Peter, very good review.I think that I may be in a minority here as I always actually prefer solid case backs on mechanical watches than glass see through back cases. This phoibos also has an ace up it's sleeve with an anti-magnetic plate. A good idea. Come in handy when leaving the watch near computers, phones etc.

  • @leonm2407
    @leonm2407 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    As a PHOIBOS aficionado, I had a close look at this one when it first popped up on their site. I really wanted to love it, the movement, the antimagnetic protection, the dimensions but I cannot get past that skeletonized handset. I hope they continue this trend with their subsequent releases, hopefully adding some different handset options along the way. Thanks Peter.

    @wisamal-hakim5531 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Different isn’t always a good thing. But I’m this case yeah I’m inclined to agree. I like the case a lot. The dial is nice albeit a little generic and the movement is fine.
    Not different enough to make me too wild about it though to be absolutely honest

    I have two Phoibi so far. I like the departure from the mundane with all of them. This one might a little bit "try hard" but it has a certain appeal. I like that at least it's the "right size". Might be a bit exxy, but I understand that will be down to the movement. Thanks for the review.

    • @marcjames3487
      @marcjames3487 ปีที่แล้ว

      Phoibi, nice :) I got the GMT Ray and I'm very happy with it. 6 months now and I've never had to adjust the time. Yes there's a certain steampunk quirkiness that I really love and they've gone overboard with this one ! On the other hand it's yet another diver and that curved spring bar, great though it looks, would really annoy me as I like changing straps regularly.

    • @Plexcom60
      @Plexcom60 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@marcjames3487 They do good stuff as a rule. This one is more interesting than desirable though. I have a bronze Leviathan and it was the second watch in my current collection. Then I had to have an aged steel Proteus. Since then I've resisted. :)

  • @khronokraze
    @khronokraze ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Pretty cool. If you like a Tuna like design, this won't be too foreign a design for you. And, I personally like the Tunas a lot. Don't have a Tuna on right now, per day, but the Ana-digi "Arnie" SNJ033 I have on right now is super cool, I think.
    With these styles of watches, they are suppose to wear big. But, they have tricks to manage the wearability and visual weight to make them much more comfortable and compact than one might think just looking at the raw case diameter alone.
    I'm impressed by the action of the internal bezel action. I have found such feature hard to keep accurate without shifting from intended set point once you want to lock down the crown that actuates it . Don't see that here.

    • @PeterKotsa
      @PeterKotsa  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You're right about that bezel, its spot on accurate. Where you set it is where it stays.
      Would have loved the external bezel to have a function as well though..

    Phoibos is great with the odd looks. I certainly agree with all of your negatives, but, overall, an interesting build and not a direct copy of anything. Maybe some Seiko tuna vibes? Depends on the price, at day's end, if I'd consider it a bargain, versus other options. Terrific to see a Swiss movement inside, and likely justifies the cost listed. Cheers my friend!

    I applaud Phoibos originality, but I've yet to find one I'd buy...like Zelos, they always are too flashy and cheap looking. I like the anti-magnetic properties ( useful in today's world) but dislike the internal bezel (= bigger crystal, more vulnerable), two too big crowns & personally I think dates are useless to anyone with a functional memory.

    i don't see the " try not to hand wind it , or do it as rarely as possible " as a step up in a movement. Might be better for those with 2-3 watches, but as a part of a big collection, i like something with a sturdier movement. The more watches i gather, the more i am drawn to hand wound movements.
