    Compare to the previous generations of NN, finally I feel safe when cornering.
    Since April 2021 I am riding with the new generation of Nobby Nic Speedgrip SuperGround on both wheels ( AllMountain bike ).
    What I see after two months of use - cornering is much safer, I fell like a train, I am riding faster, not because I am better. Really I am in a worse shape now, than a year ago:(
    Tyres are ,,quicker,, :)
    I think, because of smaller gaps in the tread? Rolling is much better compare to the previous generation of NN.
    Construction of the tyre fells more robust, yes they are heavier, but people before were complaining how weak NN were.
    And they still look like a new, it is not an easy life for them with me:) - Bike Parks, Trail Centres, a lot of descending, jumping, braking.
    I got still the old new tyres, as a spare. I have weighted them. The numbers shows that SuperGround is 100g heavier than Snakeskin - 27.5 size of the wheel. But I do not fell the weight at all.
    Hopefully with the next generation weight will go down, but at the moment I am really happy with them.
    PS
    About the colours, when these tyres are dirty I do not see any blue line on them at all:)
    Just ride a bike.

I needed something beefier for the rear because i ride quite a lot also on asphalt roads and Racing Ralph and before Maxxis Rekon have been used up very fast because of that and some steep climbs and Ralph wasn't also very good at breaking on a wet road with a 21kg ebike :) I ride on dirt forest roads and gravel too. Racing Ray for the front because i don't need a beefy tire for the front and i think it's the fastest front tire with one of the best cornering strength and i want to test if a 2.1 in the front will have significantly less air resistance against 2019 Ray 2.35 because i ride quite fast too :)

    Coming from Racy Ray. The Noby Nic weighs a ton compared to the Racing Ray and sidewalls are far stifer. Its like comparing paper to card board. Can feel the added weight on the climbs. Shoot it downhill and the control the Noby Nic provides over the Racing Ray is light years ahead. It rides a bit harsher than the Racing Ray at the same pressure (25PSI). Will need to see how these roll on super steep 18-20% stuff and on longer 45-60 minutes climb.

You said to pump the tire to max PSI overnight even if you are not gonna use it to obtain the dimensions as specified in the tire, but what if the max PSI for your rim is lower than that of the tire. Is it still ok to pump it upto the max PSI of the tire? Ex. I am using Stans Flow MK3 tires which is rated for 37PSI max, can I pump that tire to 50PSI even if I will not be using it? Thanks

      Vittoria is the way!! Have the fast rolling of schwalbe, higher grip and trail casing is similar to exo/exo+. I just went Maxxis Rekon/AR to the vittoria Agarro/Mezcal, they are very fast and grip like velcro on hardpack dusty loose over hard. Went 2.35 on I27 carbon, the Agarro in trail casing weighs 950g and Mezcal weighs 730g. The more aggressive AM/enduro tires in trail casing is like EXO with added pinchguard in sidewall. They started pretty skinny but stretched after a few days ~2.34, the 2.6 will measure 2.45-2.5 on a 30id wheel based on mtbr feedback

    • @and30ers
      @and30ers 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Same here. The 2021 family of "super" casings from Schwalbe are all way to heavy for my liking. My now obsolete Evo TLE SnakeSkin Addix tires in 29x2.35" size are Nobby Nic 800 g, Hans Dampf 875 g and Magic Mary 900 g. New NN SuperGround is +200 g and NN and MM SuperTrail are both +300 g. Wtf!
      I am or will be replacing Racing Ralph with Vittoria Mezcal (rear), Racing Ray with Vittoria Barzo (front), Nobby Nic and Hans Dampf with Vittoria Agarro, Magic Mary with Vittoria Mazza. Vittorias latest TnT G2 4C lineup is very attractive in most aspects: grip vs. rolling resistance, weight vs. durability, supple 120 tpi casings, looks great in either anthracite or tan sidewalls, attractive pricing. Only downside is that Vittoria's are a bit on the narrow side vs. ETRTO spec.

      @@and30ers Just recently my last set of old TLE Snakeskin Schwalbes were retired, and I have replaced them with Vittoria Barzo / Mezcal in the Race casing. They are slightly heavier 690g vs 620g (for schwalbe), but they also seem to have thicker tread casing; however the sidewalls seems to be a little thinner than Snakeskin. I had my first race on them last night and they were awesome. Measure slightly above 2.25 rating at 2.28 at 19psi. Also having run Vittoria in the past, I know the tread will last for 2x as long as schwalbes. And the tan was looks amazing. I run Nobby Nic front and Hans Dampf rear. Both supertrail, the nobby nic in the speedgrip compound and the HD in the soft compound. The tires are very similar since Nobby Nic has become a lot more agressive. What I like about HD is that it has more mud clearance and basically no center knobs. That's great for the front. I'd recommend this combo. I come from DHF/DHR but this is a LOT faster rolling and in dry to semi-dry conditions it's just perfectly fine. I'd categorize my riding as "trail".

    I like Nic, had them first on used 26" Bergamont Platoon 8.2(front), they made such a cool racket when ridden on tarmac. Then on both wheels in 2,6" on a Dartmoor Primal Pro and they did well, looked beefy and cool.
    Looking at new weights, I think about my friend who can't live with riding anything much over 600g in 29". He's got 2017 down country prodigy - Stevens Jura ES 120mn fr&rear, so he shouldn't "require" that light of tyres, but I'm kinda worried too about the weights going up and up. I did run Geax Jafaki @ 1400g 27,5. It's not that bad as it seems, but I much prefer ~800-900g

      I don't like tires under 900g but it really depends on where you ride. In my riding places tires under 900g are generally very prone to leaks by flints. Also I feel that they don't hold my 80KG as well so I put an insert in them anyway. If you run inserts you might just as well take a heavier tire, get rid of the installation issues of inserts and have the same result.

    I used to ride Nobby Nics for many years liked that they offered better grip levels than xc tires for a relatively minor weight penalty. When the new NN's came out I was initially excited but when I checked the weight in their specs I noticed they are more then 100g heavier than the old ones and based on the review the actual weight is even worse. Definitely a no go for me. I had the same experience with the Specialized Ground Control grid with the actual weight being more than 100g heavier than the spec. I have tried many Maxxis tires but believe they cannot compete with the Schwalbes from a grip, control point of view. Maxxis however seem to last longer and at least their specs are very close to actual weight. I am interested to try Vittoria Barzo next when they are back in stock.

    • @and30ers
      @and30ers 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Barzo 2.35" is a great tire. I would say Barzo sits between Rocket Ron and Nobby Nic in terms of both grip and rolling resistance. One important thing to note is that Vittoria 29x2.25" is ETRTO 55-622 and 2.35" = 57 mm. Compared to Schwalbe where 2.25" = 57 mm and 2.35" = 60 mm. So when comparing weight you should factor in that Vittoria 2.35" = Schwalbe 2.25".

I love the level of grip, but they are heavy. The casing on my 2.6 Mezcal is much larger than on the 2.6 Nobby. Way more volume in the Mezcal to the point a did a double take on the Nobby to make sure it was really a 2.6. I will likely go back to Vittoria after the Nobbys get worn.

Then when I do more aggressive trail riding in the mountains I'll put the NN's on the rear and the Hans Dampf on the front. Never had any issues and they are amazing when it comes to being the all around package. Grippy, fast rolling, predictive and durable. However, the added weight is a slight turn off for me.

      @LoveMTB it took a while to get the Wolfpack speed tire because they were out of stock when I ordered. They finally shipped it and I've put 24 miles (2 12 mile rides)
      I got the 27.5" - 2.4 "Speed" MTB tire and the weight was only 2grams lighter than their claimed 590gram weight.
      The rubber is softer than the Addix and much tackier. I use this tire for the rear only. Up front I am still running my Nobby Nic. The wolfpack has a pretty standard tread arrangement and basic sipes in each knob for better deformation.
      So my previous rear tire was the Vitorria Barzo 2.4 tire. Between this and the new Wolfpack the WP wins in installation round. Super easy to mount and dismount.
      For grip around corners and on climbs I think the WP hooks up a tad bit better. I felt no slippage or drifting on my two rides while corner fast and climbing hard.
      Rolling resistance was the biggest notable difference. The Barzo felt slightly slower than my previous Rocket Rons but the WP rolls much faster than both the RR and Barzo.
      I'd say these are a great win for XC/trail use for those who want to keep the rubber light as possible.
      Durability and protection against rocks I won't know for a while.

    Honestly, I found the Nobby Nic to be one or the worst trial tires, and I say this after having tried two sets on both front and rear for two seasons on both 29 and 27.5 bikes.. Similar characteristics as the ardent. unpredictable, nowhere near as versatile as they claim (especially on loose over hard, they're horrible), high than expected resistance, doesn't take much to puncture them, and they wear out faster than my girlfriend does when were doing it! Whether this new version changes any of its faults I don't know. But, for anyone out there who's riding the existing NN's for XC or trail type environments, do yourself a favor, swap them out the the Maxxis Aspen. outside of the muddiest of conditions, its a far superior tire in every way.

    • @zoubtube
      @zoubtube 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never ridden a hans dampf. (personally I'm done with Schwalbe tires in general considering their price and low life span. the racing ralph and rocket Ron's are great for like 20 -30 rides if your lucky, the knobs literally peel off those tires). the NN is no where near a Minion though. The NN is sold as a general purpose tire, and just like the ardent, both do a lousy job at this, imo (at least the ardent is more durable), again, I speak to the V1 and v2 NN only, hopefully the v3 is better. I absolutely consider the Aspen a general purpose tire even though Maxxis doesn't market it as such. I've put around 1500 hard miles last year on an aspen 29, 2.25 as a rear tire in all sorts of trails and conditions. I'm amazed how well it handled everything but the muddiest situations (honestly better than the aggressor on my 27.5 in overall grip and handling, especially in dry conditions). As a rear tire it blows away the NN in every way (and I will say that the NN is the worst front tire I've ever ridden, again in both sizes). this year I swapped the XR4 2.4 on the 29 for an aspen 2.4. I only have about 150 miles on it so far in march conditions here in MI so I have no thoughts on it. Need to put on at least another 500 - 800 miles on it to get a good idea how it performs in different situations and conditions.
