    Good vid, been riding Schwalbes for a few years, super happy with a Ralph/Nic combo on my XC bike. Getting a Jeffsy 27 soon and will swap out the E13 tyres straight away. Interested you went Nic front and rear and not with a Mary up front. After a combo well suited to Surrey Hills steeps whilst not being draggy to pedal (had some HDs in the past which were great in Afan but bloody awful getting around local XC trails in loam and mud.

      Magic Mary would be a good match up front for a little bigger bike for sure. The Spark’s only 120mm so felt the Nobby Nic up front would be perfect for the riding I do on it

    Great Video Scotty, natural and down to earth with some good riding segments.
    Been riding Bontranger SE4 and 5's for a couple years but as my tech level progressed I found I didn't like them. Waiting on a Nobby Nic 29 x 2.6 speedgrip for the rear end of my bike and pairing it with a 29 x 2.6 Hans Dampf up front in a speedgrip as well.
    Super Trail for both but wanting the larger volume for natural rough trails I ride as well as commuting back and forth to them via paved and gravel roads.
    Also thought the larger volume would be good for winter riding in snow and ice.
    With the SE4, they washout in loose conditions very easy and also have no grip over damp roots and rocks and the SE5 I don't like the lack of transition knobs. The SE5 seems more suited to trail centers than the off-camber tech chunder I ride.
    Again, can't wait for the new rubber to arrive. ))

    The best brand - my all time favorites are Magic Mary's , but I don't like the new ultrasoft compound - it's a bit harsh and not damping enough . The old Vertstar DH Triple was way better in that area( still the best imho) . I'm glad they didn't change the rest of the tire.

    First of all, thanks for taking the time to do this; I appreciate your good work. Question: I'm buying a new Pivot Switchblade with 29er wheels (DT Swiss carbon XMC 1501 ID: 30MM) and need help selecting the right Schwalbe tire combination. I live in the USA, in the Pacific Northwest. I'm guessing maybe I should get the Nobby Nic combo you used but instead in size 2.6? My bike will support 29 X 2.6 tire clearance and that's the tire size I'd like to try. Can you please give me a couple of tire combinations that would be good for me? I will be primarily trail riding on blue and single black diamond rated runs. Thanks...

    Hi Scott
    Your thoughts please -
    I'm a total diehard fan of Magic Mary f & r on my emtb but running cushcore too so always used snakeskin with no problems or rim flats to call of.
    Thinking of running SG MM on r & trailstar MM up f but both without the inserts. Would i be ok with that do you think please ? I ride steep techy off piste mostly but also love to ride the rocky techy uphill
    climbs with having the Emtb.
    I'm just worried the SG on its own wouldn't stop those rim strikes .
    Thank you
    Ps you said the big better sits just below the MM do you mean in terms of grip ?

    • @ScottyLaughland
      @ScottyLaughland  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd recommend trying the Big Betty on the rear with the Magic Mary up front both Addix Soft and in Super Gravity - personally I've found this to be the ultimate eMTB tire combo! I haven't tried an inset would potentially be curious to have it on the rear on a eMTB as it takes more impacts but up front with the SG's you could probably ditch it. Hope that helps?

    Do schwalbe tires have wobbles? (Though correctly fitted) maxxis dhr2 often have quality issues, reason why I want to try the schwalbes, looks way better than other tires.

      European vehicle legislation means that Speed Pedalecs (The faster E-Bikes that are assisted up to 50km/h and which are not currently legal in the UK) have to have either B rated or ECE-R75 rated tyres hence the E50 marking. E25 is for all the regular 25km/h eBikes that we have in the UK and is our approval for suitability on and eBike. So either E25 or E50 is fine any standard UK spec eBike.

    Im currently running assegai front and dhr2 rear on nukeproof scout 290 expert….but they just seem sluggish and overkill for the flat flowing singletrack im riding here in uk (waiting for double hernia op so taking things easy) want to swap for something better rolling but still with some decent grip and tough sidewall casing as im 17 stone …been looking at this brand…any advice on the combo to go for ?

      I’d say a Super Trail Magic Mary up front paired with either a Super Gravity Hans Dampf (faster rolling) or a Big Betty (more grip) both soft compound! Hope that helps...

    Big betty super trail equivalent to maxxis exo plus?

    • @ScottyLaughland
      @ScottyLaughland  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m unfamiliar with the Maxxis range tbh. Super Trail is designed perfectly for trail bike riding and the further up the line, the casings are designed for more gravity based. The Super Trail is a great compromise between between weight and protection!!

    At first I was excited of their new line. But when I noticed that the XC-tyres RacinhRay/Ralph is now even heavier than before I got disappointed... I hope their listing is wrong.

    • @TimWardUK
      @TimWardUK 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's only about an extra 50g per tyre. But the Super Ground now has full a wraparound SnakeSkin layer instead of just on the sidewalls as with the previous SnakeSkin version. Worth the extra bit of weight for the additional protection.

    Great bike , rides smooth th-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L I added a bigger spring loaded seat to it . Takes a bit of adjusting cables to get brakes and shifting to perfect . I've owned quite a few bikes in the past that were absolutely uncomfortable to ride and they always ended up as garage wall decor . I'm not seeing that with this one. It's pretty light I've only ridden it a few miles but I like it . As for the pedals falling off in the other reviews , the pedal arms are aluminum along with the pedal studs look to be also . I would not overtighten them. I can see it would be very easy to overtighten them and strip the threads right off . All in all I think it's pretty good quality besides the aluminum pedal thing
