    The EFL allowed an owner who didn’t know that Bury was a town and had no proof of funds as well as having no football interest - the EFL should be blamed massively for this

      The EFL not gonna show you how to run your club, why should they? Fans need to organise and take ownership of their clubs and really stop moaning. You need custodians and board members who care and build foundations. There are well run clubs all over the country. What you see at Bolton is bad management coupled with fan apathy. On and off the pitch.

Some of these teams should be treated as historical sites. Lovely fans and dedicated players that deserve better. Bought a mug from the club for early morning football here in the states. With exception to the top 10 in the Premiership - I expect all the other 80+ clubs are one bad deal away from financial ruin!
    A massive restructuring is required, with some of that top money needs to move to the lower leagues! These clubs are more than businesses, they are community hubs and are historical treasures!

    • @sisloan
      @sisloan 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I'm a Villa fan. We couldn't pay a tax bill last summer. This nearly happened to us. We were incredibly lucky that new owners stepped in when they did. I could't agree more about the money being spread around. The financial divide between the top and lower leagues is mindblowing. Football TV deals are slowly killing the lower leagues. Top tier clubs (including mine) getting so much money and the others get a pittance. It HAS to change, before it's too late for a lot more clubs. The championship final playoffs were constantly billed as the "the richest game in football". If you took half of the money that Prem teams get and spread it around the lower leagues, situations like Bury and Bolton could possibly be avoided.

      @@sisloan The latest TV deal by the EFL was opposed by the top clubs in the Championship including Villa because they said the EFL had sold the clubs short. But it went ahead because the teams in League 1 and League 2 were happy with what the were going to get. They could have had more but they were short sighted and got £ in front of their eyes. Most of these clubs will never be shown live on TV so they don't care they will take what they can get. I support Leeds and almost half of our games last season were shown live and the same will happen this year. We joke at Leeds that when the fixtures are announced that for Leeds they should say some time during the weekend of ***. This messes the fans about particularly the bigger clubs because some of their fans have to fly to get to games. In the case of Leeds and I think this will apply to other clubs as well for a home game they get £100,000 for a live game but for an away game they get just £10,000. Compare that to what happens in the cup, for the away game at Newport in the cup that was shown live Leeds got £144,000 for an away game. As I said at the beginning there has to be something seriously wrong with the way the EFL negotiates its TV deals and the way the smaller clubs are more than willing to accept what ever is offered.

    • @sisloan
      @sisloan 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@mbotela9979 We may as well just shut all the other leagues down then if it's only about what the league brings in. Watching this sad sorry tale from Australia. My Dad was born and raised in Bolton and it's so sad to see a club with such a rich history be dragged down like this. I really feel for the fans of Bury and Bolton - the heart of their community will be ripped out by incompetent or selfish owners who just don't get that Football is more than a business - for some people who have a lot of crap in their life, going and watching their local club is the only bright moment in their week - the EFL needs to do better - the fall of these clubs are like the canary in the mine - they are a warning that there is something terribly wrong with the administration of the game.

    With regards to the handling of Bury FC by the incompetent English Football League (EFL)...
    I feel if we the genuine supporters of English football, where to just say 'ok that's it then', then we will be the ones to let this happen again and again to other clubs, and accept what the EFL has done to be correct!
    But what the EFL has done isn't correct, because what they have done is to take the easy way out, and not give an ear to the new bids that have come in from interested parties as far away as Switzerland.
    Also I am so disappointed with The EFL, because I feel they could of given Ivan Lewis MP for Bury South and his consortium, a further twenty four hours to take over the club. As I stated earlier, in the amateur games teams have to make up an eight game deficit to finish off their fixtures and in some cases, they only had two weeks to do this!
    We the supporters need to pile as much pressure onto The EFL, stating that they are not fit to rule, because if they where they would have stepped in and suspended the sale of Bury FC for £1 at the time it happened. And just to rub salt into the wounds, The FA (who have kept quiet throughout) gave out a statement saying that Bury FC, would not be able to contest the FA Cup this season! This news I heard on Sky Sports, and this was followed by news on Alexis Sanchez' loan move to Inter Milan, of which Manchester United would still have to prop his wages up to the sum of £6 million!
    To sum up. It feels like the EFL have had to come down hard on Bury FC, its staff and its fans. They have done this to show Bolton Wanderers what will happen if they dont get their act together. I think the EFL don't have the compassion or the empathy to understand the complexity of the situation, and have taken the easy way out!

    • @sisloan

      the EFL seem to have double standards. Bolton have been given extension after extension. It seems the justification for it by the EFL is that Bolton were still able to play games and Bury couldn't. Lets hope that one of the Bury offers works out and they can start again next season.

    Sorry to hear about Bury. I hope Bolton can get themselves the potential new owner within timescale that they deserve. Villa were one of the very fortunate few to acquire two very astute, wealthy businessmen, both of whom have sporting interests/investments, to secure the long term future of our club. We went into last season just happy we had a team to watch play. Horrible to know your are potentially one bad owner away from having your heart and soul ripped out of your chest.

    With the insane amounts of money in the premier league, why can’t the clubs put a bit of money in each to save the lower league clubs that are in danger of going out of business?? The sums that are needed normally to save these clubs is about a weeks wages of a top premier league player. The top clubs benefit as well because they can pick up players from the lower leagues. It’s so avoidable.

  • @stephenhodgson3506

    There is a basic flaw in the way the EFL is run and that is that the main decisions are made by the club chairman/owners themselves. It's like having the foxes guard the chicken house. There is no way the Chairmen will vote for something that may disadvantage themselves. I support Leeds and when the EFL voted on our 15 points deduction a few years ago the Chairmen of Leagues 1 and 2 voted for the -15 points to stand because it was in their interests to get the money from the Leeds travelling fans. While most in the Championship voted against it because they saw exactly the same thing if Leeds got a quick promotion back. Those Chairmen were looking for a short term gain and for some of them it came back to bite them in the rear end when they ran into problems of their own. The EFL have proved time and time again that they are not fit to run their leagues. The FA as the governing body of football in England should be launching a full and independent enquiry into the state of the game within the Championship, League 1 and League 2 and should enforce any changes that, that enquiry makes with the threat of withdrawing a clubs FA registration if they refuse to comply. Under FIFA rules if a club does not hold its governing bodies registration it cannot take part in any league. The EFL have had twenty years to sort these problems out and they have failed time and time again. They've had their chance and it's now time for the FA to take action.

I hope they eventually get back up to at least championship level. All the best for the future from a PNE supporter (no, not a fan... which has become so popular of late. Knowbody has mentioned the real problem and its the EFL itself ,and its restrictions on clubs trading ,sometimes in order to keep afloat. These Transfer windows have caused more problems than needed in the past you could sell or sign a player to help your situation up until middle of march, unhappy players could leave and not sit around moaning,
    We adopted the European model that came out of Italy and Spain ,were the top teams owned by unscrupulous characters raided regional clubs then shut it down , leaving them always stronger than the rest , its why the Milan's and Madrid's etc ran away with their leagues every season, its finally happened in England, I'm just surprised clubs clubs haven't fought these restrictions on movement of players in court

Fans aren't millionaires by and large. They can't buy these clubs. Would Richard Branson buy a club? No. He knows it's a stupid investment. Those who love the club can't afford it and those who can won't waste millions on a bad investment

    Good news for the fans but stitch up for Bury ! I could see this happening all along sadly ......... The EFL heirarchy and the Premier League bed buddies out together to save their own reputation and embarrassment able to bend all the rules in order to save Bolton Wanderers who was the former mainstay of their own premier league , for many years and who might well have been in more financial debt than Bury , but chose to bend the rules to let Bolton lifesupport get extended and now a new "saviour" owner take over whilst not extending time letting little old Bury (who sadly probably have no obvious in the EFL saving go to the wall still . Any club on the brink is always sad for the fans who always loose out but atleast for the greater good of the rotten business game treat them Bolton same as Bury, so atleast there would be ALOT more scrutiny of the EFL PREM rules to avoid another big club fail , instead of sweeping Burys demise under the carpet similar to Chester and Darlington etc .

    The EFL should have the power to force a sale at a price set by a 3rd party valuer if a club enters administration. This would mean that if a club was in financial trouble the current owner couldn't go back and forth negotiating slowing down the process. Bury went under with an offer on the table. I don't know if it was a fair offer, or if it was going to be enough to keep the head above water, or if the administrators felt it gave enough to the creditors. But I will always wonder if Steve Dale refused the offer hoping to maximise his return on investment.

    Why does this sound like they don't know anything? It sounds like they really don't know anything about the situations with the clubs and they're just sitting around talking about an issue they just heard about 20 minutes before the show started?
    @12:48 - is the financial situations of teams a secret? Is it not known a team is in trouble until the "For Sale" sign goes up?
    Is that a UK thing? This show? I'm an American and I'm used to all the "inside" coverage of sports here so listening to this is...hard...it sounds like they don't even fully understand the role of the EFL (not that I do, but it doesn't sound like they do either)...
    Is it the nature of English soccer? I'm trying to overstand how this [Bury getting kicked out] happened and listening to all the coverage it just sounds like the EFL is a hot mess. A hot disorganized mess.
    EDIT: I'm not trying to be critical of anyone, it just sounds like they're trying real hard not to talk bad about the EFL because the EFL is some sh*t and everyone knows it but no one wants to come out and say it...in doing that it makes this round table sound disjointed and incoherent...it sounds like either they know a lot and don't want to say it or don't know anything about the situation...

    Loads needs to be done!
    Improve the fit and proper persons test .. fans partly owning the club alongside investors needs to be more promoted and assisted .. efl clubs could place a wage cap for each division to ensure that clubs dont offer ridiculous wages short term in the hope they make it to Prem.
    All Prem and big Championship clubs should have community partnerships with smaller local clubs. The prize money for lower leagues could be massively improved if the premier league donated 1% of their broadcasting deal to the Efl.
    Clubs cant start disappearing because we are facing a future where there are less professional clubs and a lot of these current historic but not profitable clubs could become semi pro which would be sad.
    Hopefully the FA will place a Phoenix Bury club high enough up the pyramid like national league north or something because their fanbase deserves more than that tbf.

That 14 million has to be covered and then you need enough money to run the club. Staff and player wages, overheads. Anyone coming in will need deep pockets. They are playing youth team players since they only have about half a dozen senior players left and no manager. It isn't a pretty situation.
