Esmie, I'm a US-based, traditionally published author and I really appreciated your candor about word count/goals. I've had days where hitting 200 good words felt downright heroic. It's wonderful when the narrative flows, but some days are just a slog. And all of it is okay. Love your videos!
Your videos are a big inspiration for me. Their not only an inspiration for me as a writer, but they also help me to be more gentle with myself. Seeing someone who already successfully published a book struggling with the same things, helps me to remind myself that it’s okay and that it doesn’t need to stop me from making my dreams come true.
ah this means so much to me, I am so glad my videos have helped you, or been comforting. Please do be gentle with yourself - this life is hard, don't make it harder on yourself. Take care!! xx
What a dreamy day! I'm an aspiring writer myself and recently had a day where I hit 3,400 words. Like you, I'm usually firmly in the 1,500-2,000 words/day camp but it was exhilarating to hit more! Hope you're loving your story!
Exhilarating is the right word, I felt like I was walking on air!! Good luck to you, and thank you - I am still absolutely loving writing it, which feels like such a blessing.
Hey Esmie! I love these videos, and I can't wait to check out your book. As an aspiring author, and in the spirit of not gatekeeping, have you checked out Latte and Literature's writing software, Scrivener? A friend introduced it to me at university and it is fantastic. It changed my writing process, and while I personally use it for collating all my world-building and project information, I think it's a wonderful writing tool. All the luck with the remainder of 2024 and all the best for the future! ☺
thank you! I have hard so many good things about scrivener and its world-building capabilities. At the moment I am a Microsoft Word girl... which feels very old fashioned, but I'm just so attached! I think when Word finally crashes on this draft, I will move to Scrivener...❤
You know I might not get an applause for saying this, but I was writing a book but it was taking me so long to finish the book that I turned it into a screenplay. I think screenwriting is so much better and easier. A book has 250 to 400 pages and a screenplay has only 120 pages.
I've been loving your vlogs!! I'd love to hear an overview of your writing journey - how you got your first agent, what the publishing process was like, etc. Yay for good writing days and I can't wait to continue following along!
Hi, I’m planning my first book and would love any advice on planning you can give. It’s taken me forever to come up with a premise that makes me excited to write. Never thought coming up with a premise would be soooo difficult 😣
This was inspiring as I’m also abroad for some weeks and working out the balance between working on my laptop and immersing myself in my surroundings. I’d love to hear more about your road to becoming a full time author❤
Ah! I agree, to be on my laptop feels like I'm wasting the opportunity a little... but I'm currently thinking of it as making the most of the alone time and the space I've been given. Besides, knowing me, if I didn't write anything down while I was here, I'd forget the best stuff by the time I got home💖 I will make a video about my author journey! x
Hey, Loved, Loved, Loved this video! I know this doesn't currently correspond to you, but would love to hear your insight into querying agents :) How best to select them, how many to send out at once and tips you have for writing your synopsis and querying letter would be great! thanks xx
so glad you liked the video!! Okay I will deffo do that. Honestly, it does correspond to me as I recently had to change agents and query again so I was thrown back into the querying process! I'll make a video on querying for sure :)) thanks for watching
hi! yes - it's a website called Notion, and I find it really useful to organise loads of different pages and lists and trains of thought. You can put links and photos in it too and it's totally free!

Wow that first draft is killer! I was already sucked into the story just by that little snippet of chapter 1! Can’t wait to see more of your videos 😁
ah this is so kind of you. I felt very weird/nervous posting it for all to see, but if it helps someone it's worth it LOL!!
"I have no doubt that I will be humbled really soon" I felt that! Love this style of video and how authentic it is
lol! it's the sad truth unfortunately... thank you so much, I really appreciate your comment!!

How much did you plan beforehand?
Hello Esme which writing program do you use? Is it called "Notion"?
hi! yes - it's a website called Notion, and I find it really useful to organise loads of different pages and lists and trains of thought. You can put links and photos in it too and it's totally free!
@@esmietheauthor Thanks Esme, I will try it for my writing!
You say you are a Sunday Times Bestselling Author, but I couldn’t find anything about your book on Sunday Times. How do you claim that? 😂
