So picked up a 4 1/2 inch vise from the depot and did the needful. A couple tips, the metal shaft linkage from the key lock tumbler runs left to right about 3/4 inch back from the front of the table, so you want the front hole to be behind it, luckily I noticed that. What I didn’t notice was a vertical fin running front to back along right side about an inch in from the right edge. My first hole just missed it, but was so close I couldn’t get a nut on my bolt. To avoid drilling three new holes I just kept the front bolt, rotated the vise a bit and drilled two new holes. Close the mistake holes with some tan epoxy and no one can tell. Before you drill use a flashlight and have a look at what’s underneath.
I was iffy about mounting on a Vise on my tool box. Until I found your video. I have a tool box just like yours but in Red. After looking at your video. I'm now certain that it will fit. Thanks for sharing. 💯💯
@@blainesworld6895 yes and across the back, that's the other thing holding me back from this type of bench... I think it's very doable just drilling in to the exact thickness and not hitting the metal
Thanks for the video. I was able to install one on my cart after watching your video. Off the charts, that introduction music is great. What is the name of the song?
Kind of off topic but is that your rock crawler?!? Up here in Maine learning from the good old Boys and I like this idea! We have a stock 2012 Rubicon I want to make a hitch vice for as well.
Would the wood top tool cart be able to do something similar? It only has a few drawers so if removing the top one is necessary that might be a bummer.
I want to do this, but my 44" x 22" US General tool box does not have wood on top. Should I install wood before mounting the vise? If so, what kind of wood and how thick?
Probably half inch plywood would probably work. I’d go higher than the lip on the sides of the tool box so if that’s more than 1/2 maybe 3/4. The wood top will give the vice something to hold on to. I don’t know if I would trust the gauge thickness of the tool box itself.
Do the drawers want to come open when sawing or trying to bend something when jerking on your work piece ?? What about the box wanting to roll? Does the top get damaged when you pound on the vice like an anvil??
flatrockfiend it’s a small vice so I dont get too crazy with it. I haven’t had an issue with the drawers and the castors have locks. I leave it locked up so it doesn’t roll around.
Not sure about your question regarding bolt length, but the wood sits on top of the toolbox itself. This is why you see metal on the underside. Drill through both when installing the vise.
@@VictorMarines06You don't understand his question??? He clearly asked how LONG of bolts does he need.... Do you speak English or are you just special?
Got this same tool box from the Depot for only $250 because of silly scratch and the first thing I thought of is mounting a vice. What have you thought about that harbor freight one?
Matt Raines, it works just fine. I haven’t had any issue with it. The 20 percent coupon made it more appealing. There’s definitely better options but for my needs I’m not disappointed with my purchase
Where he drilled, there is no metal under the wood, at least on our Husky tool storage cabinet. Reach up inside to see. If there is metal, you'd just keep drilling through it. Need a decent multi-application drill bit is all.
It looks like the top drawer you removed for wrench space was still out at the ending? Was this because you had trouble getting it back in because of the drawer hitting the bolts?
I was thinking about mounting a vise like this on my husky box. Im a little concerned about the whole box wiggling around on me when im trying to use the vice to hold something im wrenching or sawing on. Has that been a problem for you?
It’s a small vice so for the things that can fit in it it does well with it attached to the tool box. I keep the wheels locked so it doesn’t go anywhere. I haven’t had an issue since I bolted it down to the box.
Was contemplating the same husky cabinet but wanted a vice also, your video has inspired me to pull the trigger on the cabinet, so thank you ! Question, you didn't show the top drawer closed in after mounting the vice. I assume the drawer closes ok
Simple and to the point, Thank You

I must have missed the key lock tumbler bu pure luck. Good info to know for sure 👍🏻
Would have liked to have seen some video of the underside of the table.

Wanted that type of workbench because if the storage, but needed a vise. Thanks for the vid
CXL Mobile Headlight Restoration you bet! Thanks for watching!

CXL Mobile Headlight Restoration I don’t see why not. If it’s not over loaded with tools the gauge of sheet metal should hold up.
awesome exactly what i was looking to do
I have the same toolbox thanks for the info
how is it holding up?
Thanks for the video. I was able to install one on my cart after watching your video.

So I have this same tool box and was actually thinking about getting that same exact vice from HF. Can I ask how it's held up since you posted this?

How long of bolts did you use?
Looks like you my not have clearance to clamp any long items vertically. Thats a concern i am having for mounting mine
Any particular reason why you used 3 bolts instead of 4?
Is the reason you couldn’t drill the front right hole; the corner of the toolbox design?
If I remember right I think the vice only has 3 mounting holes.
Thank you for the response.

Gave me some good ideas with my Husky workbench. Thanks. 169
The newer Husky tool boxes seem to have metal on the underside of the wood surface. How long are the bolts you used to mount the vise?

Is the wood top secured at all or just sitting on top?
sxmxmx1 it comes just placed on top but I drilled through the tool box and bolted the vice to the box not just the wood top.

It’s an awesome cabinet. The vise doesn’t interfere with the top drawer at all. Use it all the time. Thanks for the comment 👍🏻
How long are those bolts?
Thanks!
Christian Graham you bet!
So is it 5/16 or 3/16 bolts? The description says 3/16 but the video says 5/16.
sorry for the typo they would be 5/16 bolts. 3/16 would be like tiny little machine screws
You had to drill through the metal top of the tool box, correct?
Yeah I just drilled straight through
