That’s a baby greater amberjack. Almacos have wider body and taller fins. Banded rudder have vertical bands when they are younger and blueish tiny. Lesser amber Jack have stripe that stops at the eye
@@TB-xw3vo we catch baby greater AJ's in late spring nearshore near North Padre Island or Port Aransas/ Mustang Island. By fall/ winter it is bar jacks or almacos.

I’ve had a few run ins with Texas PWD they have always been nice when I’m out boating (ski/wakeboarding/tow tubing on the lakes) or hunting/fishing inland. If your stuff is in order and you have stamps/tags with you if required or they can look it up it’s usually just a warning.
Haha next week on lone star law. Thresher fishing finds out he needs new registration sticker on his boat and must have ID on you at all times while fishing. Man I thought you would of smoked a king in that water.

Great report Coop! When the warden asked you about your name, I'm not sure if you said Daniel or Samuel. Either way, it ain't Coop lol. One thing though, I would never trust the tides and leave my truck so close to the water while going offshore. You just never know.

Your blue fish grow huge Here in Australia we call them Tailor most only in the same size that you were catching They are great smoked. And a good source of omega-3 oils .
I don't understand how Game Wardens can demand to see what is in your boat without a warrant. What event took place to warrant a probable cause search. I'm not an anti-police person either, but I don't think they should just be able to randomly search people.

In decades of fishing and hunting I've never had a rude or aggressive gw encounter. They've always been pleasant and talkative. They're also great for getting intel from.

For sure! Getting checked out usually means getting the best info, and making new friends. On the other hand, nothing cool about pissing off the game Warden, getting a hefty fine and possibly having your equipment confiscated.

A few years ago, I got an 8wd Argo amphibious with tracks for moose hunting. The primary use was for recovering big game in horrible places in the area of Ontario where we hunt. The first year we took it to the camp, we decided to take advantage of it's capabilities to check out possibilities in the most horrible swamp area where we had all shied away from for years. The trip in was about 8 km from the navigable dry area & took us an hour or two as we checked out possible hunting places. On the way out from camp, we had met our regular "friendly" CO who checked out our licenses, tags, gear & guns...as normal we were clean as a whistle. When we arrived at the far end of the swamp, we decided to get out & have a walk around but when re returned to the Argo, we found the CO stood by the vehicle, plastered in mud & soaking wet. He had followed us in along our path through the swamp with an ATV! We looked at each other & I said to Doug "How the fuck did he get in here"? Doug replied that the CO did not care...if he got stuck he would be able to sat phone the office for a helicopter to lift him out. We were clean as a whistle but he gave me shit because I had left my rifle in the gun boot on the Argo (we only needed one rifle to explore). He gave me some light pressure about gun security but let it go because the bolt & mag were in my pocket. The moral of the story is these guys will turn up ANYWHERE, usually when you don't expect it so plan accordingly & keep your ducks in a row!
As a side note, after spending a good decade & a half making our lives tough with random stops, checks & endless interrogation he was forced to retire through ill health. When he handed over to the new CO for our area for the following years, he reportedly gave our group of 14 guys a glowing reference "these guys are pros, they have their shit together with the gear, plans & all the paperwork carefully managed" because he had never given us more than a single ticket for not wearing a helmet in all the years he had been the CO there.

Sometimes I think fish n game shouldn’t be able to approach or board your vessel unless you show them a open violation like with vehicles on the road.
My buddy had his boat basically torn apart by them ones cause they swore we had illegal fish. Again with our warning or anything just approached and boarded us. If cops on the road need probable cause I think they should as well.

Whoah, what a cool setup you have. I've been thinking about a boat, but the whole boat + trailer + place to store it 8 months has put me off, plus I don't have a truck. This looks like something I could put on a roof rack, and stand up in a corner of the garage in the winter.

I've always wondered how exactly the game warden laws in Texas are constitutional. Under normal law you don't have to identify unless you're lawfully arrested but for some reason if your hunting/fishing you have to identify? Makes no sense to me. I thought our 4th amendment said we are safe against unreasonable searches specifically pertaining to our papers and effects.
And regarding the fourth amendment. There are well over 60 Supreme Court rulings that revolve around the fourth amendment with 12 main ones. For the most part all amendments are misinterpreted by people in the general public but the fourth is one of the most complex. There are multiple exceptions to search warrants to the fourth amendment. No disrespect but I do not even want to start explaining that one. If you would like all the rulings I can give them to you though. Lastly never take an amendment in the constitution as absolute because they are not nor ever have been.
@@greenmonkey7305 the big ones are brown v Texas and terry v Ohio. Both of which require probable cause and reasonable articulable suspicion of a crime. Stopping a fisherman for legally fishing and demanding ID and proof of fishing license, in my opinion, is a gross intrusion of privacy covered by the 4th amendment. My guess is the laws still stand bc no one has challenged them in court
@@dusbus2384 Correct it has not been challenged in any courts so far. Actually it’s somewhat has but was rejected far before I could ever get to SCOTUS. That goes with any regulated act that permission is needed prior to or before doing. In historys past the lower courts have seen regulated and restricted acts performed by people in the public as not permissive in itself but subject to reasonable suspicion immediately by simply performing or possibly performing that act. Do I agree with it? Yes. Obviously we are all aware of conservation laws and if we did not have these regulations all gaming populace both fish and wildlife would’ve been eradicated in the 1920s. There’s clearly a purpose for it and with the extreme amount of poaching that is already done yearly I don’t believe in my opinion that the way Game Warden‘s operate currently there’s anything that is too intrusive. A slight example of this is just here in the one waterway that we possess locally was a fisherman last year who had over 770 crappie piled into a pantoon boat if I’m not mistaken. What’s even more asinine is a fact it was just him and his wife and I cannot even understand how on this green earth they were even able to catch so many fish within a 10 hour span, but they did. However this is what happens and do to those reasons why it’s allowed. It would make for a good argument but no courts will hear of the argument. I am aware in Vermont there was recently a ruling surrounding Game Warden‘s but I cannot begin to tell you what it even was. Fishing a hunting in itself is actually not lawful for you to do until you’re allowed and given permission to.
@@greenmonkey7305 My issue isn't with the regulation of the fishing/hunting. I'm all for conservation and am an active member of the CCA. My issue is the "show me your papers and prove to me that you aren't guilty even though I didn't actually see you catch anything." Its guilty until proven innocent instead of the other way around like it should be. Just because you have to have a license to fish doesn't mean that you no longer have constitutional rights. Its no different than ID or DUI checkpoints that have been ruled unconstitutional and are no longer done in Texas. You have to have a permit to drive but the Texas courts ruled checkpoints unconstitutional because the encroached on the 4th Amendment. If checking papers is unlawful when driving it should also be unlawful when hunting/fishing. Thresher hadn't caught any fish when he was stopped by the GW so they had no reason to think he had broken any laws (therefor no probable cause). That is my issue with the stops. I've been stopped a few times while fishing/hunting and always had my paperwork in order but it has bothered me every time. I guess I need to take one for the team next time and refuse to ID so I can go to court and have it ruled unlawful.

If you are out that far you need to have some small hooks of large wire size and catch those grey triggers for real fine eating. The chomp down like sheepsheads so take care and use about 3-6 inches of wire.
