I was quite liberal minded until recently. I realised that, fewer and fewer people appear to be happy in this world without Christian values. There is a lot of hedonism, but less true fulfillment.

I'm glad it brought you happiness but I got so much happier when I left the church. I've gotten completely sober, made great friends, got married, and had kids. We bought a country house and got chickens. We've made a great little life for ourselves and are happier than we've ever been. I just want people to know that it is possible but that people should do whatever makes them happy, so long as it doesn't hurt others.

Do you guys pray immediately after succumbing to vice?
I was doing pretty well, and there is a direct correlation between how active my prayer life is and how often I sin.
It feels like the sort of thing I need to break out of... But quite often I find myself too ashamed to turn to God in prayer, especially when I know I've just f'd up. Like, who am I to ask for mercy and for Grace after what I've done?
But then the consequence is I don't pray, and sink deeper into vice... Not good.

This puts me to bed with a clean heart looking forward the next day’s new beginning. By gosh,it works.

So true and so brilliantly put. Thank you, Matt - it's because of content like yours that I'm happy to say that I'm currently going through RCIA with a view to being confirmed and receiving holy communion at Easter. I've never felt closer to Christ. And after three decades of being a proud atheist and religious sceptic, I can say with so much joy that I didn't realise I was dead until Jesus brought me to life.

Some blind people who are extremely cold, having become lost, are warming themselves before a hot fire; but they fail to see that, in fact, they have inadvertently walked into a burning building and will die unless someone tells them to leave. A fireman happens to be driving by the building and, on one hand, wants to warn the blind people to leave, but, on the other hand, does not want to disturb them, because he fears that they may not want to believe that they must leave the fire to be saved.

Phenomenal speech, I loved it. As one who has be struggling and maybe even deconstructing, it's easy to get caught up in the world's secular view. The overwhelming feeling of doubt of God's existence has weighed heavy on me the past few months. However for some reason the Catholic faith is what seems to be drawing me. I can't really explain in it. Being in Southern USA it's not easy having doubts about God or about converting to Catholicism. Even without attending a in person mass (I have years prior) it just feels more "real" compared to protestant services.

100% correct - I grew up Catholic, went to church every week, prayed every day but it seemed the Church as a whole fell into a 50/50 balance with the world rather than being Contra Mundum. Words like adultery and fornication, masturbation were like ‘old dirty words’. I grew up bombarded with the worlds views and fell into disordered passions, which has been a long process in overcoming. I find it so difficult when coming across fellow Catholics who who think there can be a 50/50 lifestyle between being Catholic and having ‘modern’ opinions & behaviours. As a Church, I think we must be much stronger on this, especially Priests in the pulpit. Canteen Catholicism / Pick n Mix Catholicism has to be stopped in order to save souls, even if it means making people feel uncomfortable in the pews!

I think Ralph Martin was clear on these subjects even back in early eighties, when I was in high school and college.
The thing that struck me was his conversion story. A Cursillo weekend, small group of regular Catholics, believing in Jesus, as he would say, acting as if Jesus was really raised from the dead.
He has done many shows on this subject, shared how he knew friends and family impacted. So we had to be compassionate, loving. But faithful in that compassion.
There is really something there, as why would a man touched by a small group of Cursillo members, regular Catholics, be chosen to help so many?
Then he was called to study the St Theresa and the great mystic tradition.....

Matt, liked your topical sermon here. Much love from fellow Christian in Protestant tradition. I have begun to be disheartened by Protestantism, but am also disheartened by the lack of expository teaching in the Catholic Church.
I think I would consider becoming a Catholic if it were not for the lack of expository preaching and teachings on Mariology / Mary as coredeemer beside Christ.
And you say to find a community, but even when going to communities, there is not an emphasis on service to God, evangelism, ministry to the poor, sick, hurting, healing prayer, etc.
I have seen brothers of mine that once were pillars of faith fall away because the church is so dead, and they have been alone and disheartened by the church.
I feel I am in a similar place of leaving the church as an organization. I will still follow and trust Christ, and read his word. I would like even to have people over to do our own fellowship and communion, perhaps. But I can’t help going to services anymore being bored out of my mind. Weak preaching, weak fellowship, no emphasis on Matthew 25 principles of reaching the naked, prisoners, hungry, etc.
I love Christ, I love Christian’s, but I hate the mockery of what the church has become, compared to what it was meant to be.

Like the quote Matt said early in the talk, people are more against what they think the Catholic Church teaches than what she actually teaches and believes.
If you're at cross roads in your life and you're looking at the Catholic Church, get the right answers about its doctrine from its own mouth ie honestly study its faith.
For that I recommend you pick up a copy of the "catechism of the Catholic Church". By the time you're done reading it, you'll be making your decision to join or stay out with full knowledge of its teachings -- and it'll be an honest objective decision.

Repent and believe in the Gospel is the kick in the pants that saved me. "Save yourself from this wicked generation" is the only mantra that will keep us on the narrow path that leads to eternal life

He doesn't give us his forgiveness because we are worthy, he gives it because he wants to.
He made all of us, because even before we were born, when we had no chance to merit anything, and he already knowing every sin we would commit, still loved us enough to create us

So, its not me with the problem. it is not me who needs a psychiatrist cause I cant adapt to this new social order. But what are we to do? well, I pray more, the worse it gets, the more I pray, I just pray pray pray......

Good word, Matt. And what's even more sobering is the "cup of the Amorites" is not yet full; we've yet to hit bottom. The glorious news, however, is that in giving the Western world (nee
Christendom) over to strong delusion (2 Thess. 2:11) and a Psalm 2:1-3 mindset, the LORD has brought us to the point where the raft of absurdities and ironies washing over us on a daily basis has become a gallows-humor-type-laugh-fest (Psalm 2:4a).
And the next stage? Well, read the rest of Psalm 2.
Personally (I could be wrong), I don't think this will spell the end, but rather a new beginning as God brings forth His Gideon's remnant (those who serve the Lord with fear--rejoicing with trembling--have kissed the Son, and have taken refuge under the shelter of His wings) to repossess the land. And then it will be time to rise and build! (Neh. 2:20)

God laid the foundation of rules of life outside of time. Today evil has reached the peak. Do we adapt to this culture and allow lawlessness take over the world or fight for our church?
