The amount of fuel is calculated based on expected weight, and yes while the change of calculated weight by 60-80kg wouldn't prob. change anything there are procedures which need to be followed and some of them are written in blood.
But you travel often & this is the first "big issue" I've seen. I'm so careful - never take cheapest flights, check all stop overs for visa requirements, check there's time at layovers to make next flight.... A nightmare for newbies
I've written both LOT and Iberia and they both pass the blame to the other airline. Nothing has been compensated. Personally I think it's the fault of LOT. =(
Why is it even an issue? They don't have smaller seats on the plane for a child! Perfect illustration why I never rely on public transport for "bounce" travel, I always have a couple of days in any stop-over, just in case! It's stressful enough, without one domino knocking all the others over! Coming in and out of Ukraine I had long weekends in Krakow, and overnights in Przemyśl.

Travel agent is to blame in this case! Airlines get the information from them and they can't change it once it's in the system. I think the representative from LOT handled it very well and gave you the proper advice. You needed to call your travel agent and have them fix it

this clueless mistake ultimately goes back to the pathetic travel agent that didn’t check your details properly with Lot airlines. It was his/her responsibility to make sure that all the details were 100% maybe through an apathetic or lazy attitude is what led to this disaster.
Their inability or refusal to quickly fix his details so he could make his flight still makes it their screw up. Other airlines don't barr you from boarding because of petty spelling mistakes or an incorrect digit in your date of birth.

Johnny one tip for the future. As long as you have to travel through Warsaw to Ukraine keep in mind that if something similar or worse happens again the best or worst case alternative is Berlin. There are at least four trains a day going to Warsaw and lots of buses and even flights . 5h by train isn't that bad. All the best !
The guy I watched before you was supposed to fly from Austin, TX to Asheville, NC Friday. But with all of the flooding in that area of North Carolina, eastern Tennessee and western South Carolina, all the flights got cancelled. So he got a flight to Charlotte, NC. All of the car rentals were gone because everyone else was doing what he did. His cousin who lives in Charlotte picked him up and loaned him a vehicle. A Charlotte to Asheville drive is a little over 2 hours. It took him 10 hours to get home between the downed trees and closed roads. He said he was glad he topped off his cousin's car before he left Charlotte, because nobody west of Charlotte had power so everything was cash only, and as he got closer to Asheville to lines for gas were several blocks long. Also, with no cell service phones do not tell you if a road is closed. He also kept getting pulled over by police because they set curfews in every town he drove through. One guy sped around him on one road went 200 yards and hit a toppled tree. He said people just drive around trees going 50 mph even if they have to go on the wrong side of the road, no one is stopping at signal lights that are out, and everyone is out looking for food and fuel. He said he witnessed people getting upset over the smallest things at the gas station. So it looks like you had a long rough time, but I think this guy's story had you beat. Sorry.

I agree with you on the soft side baggage. I do a small gym duffle and messenger bag for electronics. It makes it easier and you can hop in taxis and check into hotels and use trains much easier. And you blend in with an Adidas gym bag almost anywhere. One looks more local, which is helpful in high crime areas and pickpockets.
That experience is so typical of most service suppliers, not just airlines. Unfortunately, employees are not trained to take ownership of issues (although I would argue they should not need training) nor do they accept individual accountability.
I've been in a similar situation before, what helped me was when I started questioning the customer service agent's sense of responsibility, and her ability to think and problem solve for herself instead of blindly following what others told her and shifting blame.

I had something like this happen trying to fly back to Canada from Holland. My flight went from AMS to NYC then to Toronto. This was during covid, and Canadians were allowed to freely travel to the united states. BUT. Because I don't have an American passport (Canadian passport), they wouldn't let me get on the airplane! Apparently, Canadians couldn't fly to the states, from Europe at that time, even with vaccines. I was so pissed, of course there never was any reimbursement, delta airlines had no issues selling me the tickets and not saying anything about it. Man, the only airline other than spirit airlines that I've had repeat issues with is always delta. Edit; I was so hungover and disappointed. I could have just rented a car in NYC to drive home in 8 hours, but oh no... next reasonably priced flight was around $4000 that day and the next day. Was furious

Dude, I stay at the Moxy couple times a year. In the future hit the grocery store down from Burger King terminal 2 and bring food to hotel, it's much better . One block walk to hotel.
Submit a 'Subject Access Request' under GDPR with each airline to find out where the booking error occurred. Ask for all data held on each airline's booking systems and emails and phone calls. Also, submit a complaint through each airline's online Complaints Handling Process and ask for the outcome your require, i.e. financial recompense for the additional costs incurred. Then put a claim in for the additional costs incurred to the responsible airline.
The EU fine airlines for boarding people without Visa's especially as you are flying a Spanish Airline , which I have always found to be good. Madrid airport is a nightmare I recently missed a flight trying to get from the end of one Terminal to the end of another via that awful Metro train! They did give me a hotel for the night so can't fault Iberia!

This is my worst nightmare. I'm so reluctant to book hotel reservations and train/ bus tickets in advance unless I have cancellation options. And, I haven't used a third party agency since 2021 since one agency entered my DOB incorrectly.
Airlines are absolutely NOT all the same. There are airlines who deliver excellent service and do right by their customers whenever there's a screwup, LOT not being one of them.
Johnny you keep forgetting that in vlogging a good audio is 50% of success. Get those external microphones working again, stop vlogging from phone, the sound is muffled and your speech unintelligible.
I'm not going to set up a mic to capture these situations, and mic up the Woman at the gate as well. It's the choice of either iPhone authentic audio and video, or we can have a scripted professional capture with good mics. It's unfortunately not possible to have both.
@@JohnnyFD there are other vlogging setups with better microphones. even dji pocket 3 will give you better audio. Gopro 12-13 also. And do use voice isolation, compressor and loudness adjustment (in Final Cut pro or Davinci Resolve)
I've looked into both, the DJI Pocket and GoPro's built in mics aren't any better than the iPhone's. The only benefit of the DJI Pocket would be to use their external mic that doesn't need a receiver. I considered it as it would make my voice better, but you would lose all of the ambient noise and other people talking.

This is my worst nightmare. I'm so reluctant to book hotel reservations and train/ bus tickets in advance unless I have cancellation options. And, I haven't used a third party agency since 2021 since one agency entered my DOB incorrectly.

Airlines are all the same it’s pot luck what happens to you. You nearly need to camp out for hours prior to your flight in case
Airlines are absolutely NOT all the same. There are airlines who deliver excellent service and do right by their customers whenever there's a screwup, LOT not being one of them.
Johnny you keep forgetting that in vlogging a good audio is 50% of success. Get those external microphones working again, stop vlogging from phone, the sound is muffled and your speech unintelligible.
I'm not going to set up a mic to capture these situations, and mic up the Woman at the gate as well. It's the choice of either iPhone authentic audio and video, or we can have a scripted professional capture with good mics. It's unfortunately not possible to have both.
@@JohnnyFD there are other vlogging setups with better microphones. even dji pocket 3 will give you better audio. Gopro 12-13 also. And do use voice isolation, compressor and loudness adjustment (in Final Cut pro or Davinci Resolve)
I've looked into both, the DJI Pocket and GoPro's built in mics aren't any better than the iPhone's. The only benefit of the DJI Pocket would be to use their external mic that doesn't need a receiver. I considered it as it would make my voice better, but you would lose all of the ambient noise and other people talking.
