This is insanely helpful...going to use this to tackle the foam shower issue as I just can't bring myself to use the methods that don't require a full tear down. Do you think there are any "while I'm in there" items to address while the system is pulled apart??
I like how you unscrewed the philips screw with a prybar. Get 'er done. Seriously though you should show a clip of evacuating the freon. People might miss that crucial step.
ha ha, yah sometimes I go back to my roots and use what I have in front of me! Thanks! Yah, next vid for sure I'm gonna show the evacuation and fill process!!
That's a bit of a chore to get the evaporator core out and back in, but looks like they designed an access for the heater core without a dash removal. I used to get a lot of the K car minivans and the flat rate was 8 hours, but I could do them properly in a bit over 4 hours. The shop I worked at got other shops to line me up with their K car minivan's too. I'd tell them they should replace the heater core at the same time for an additional 3 hours labor + parts, so it wouldn't be another 8 hours + an AC recharge.
That's awesome man! You know I see quite a few manufacturers make the heater core accessible and the evaporate almost never is. But seems todays parts are just as not good quality as I see just as many evaporator failure nowadays!
@@ripsgarage thanks for the reply. Yes, it looks like a nightmare, lol. I was looking at purchasing a 986 with a bad evap core and the quote to fix was almost as much as the asking price on the car.
Man, you are good.! When I made the vid, I quickly put it together and searched for an image for the thumb, and didn't even think about it until now. I had a pic of the actual car, but it wasn't great. I'm gonna have to change that, man your sharp!!
It's a big job to get to the Evaporator! Great useful video.
Nice thank you, it's definitely a big job, but once you tackle it I think you can do most evaporators and dashes out there!!
Great job, wonderful 👍👍
Thank you!
The Best tutorial for evaporator remplacement!
Thank you I appreciate it!

Great video. Thank you. What was the total time to get it out and put it all back together?
Looks worse than it is, this was my 4th evap core replacement on 996/997's. It was just about 10 hours in and out.

Yet you show a 997 in the thumbnail.

What a nasty job. I think the evaporator is gone in my 02 turbo.
