@addison blackmon Hi! Please don't use nail polish with Fimo/Polymer Clay because it may react with the clay and become sticky. Fimo also sell varnishes designed to be used with their own pieces and those work very well. They should definitely be glazed after baking, and after the piece is completely cool to touch. Nail polish only works with air-dry clay, which doesn't need baking.
@Sara Pie Thank you! I use the ones which happen to fit with the project I'm making...for instance I always use the cut-off bottle cup when painting, and I use hairspray when dusting glitter or gold dust onto macarons. I don't use the felting glove because it doesn't look good on camera and I have to film all of my felting tutorials :).
@Alpaca Craft Yes, that one is very easy, roll the wool together and keep poking from all sides until it becomes a ball. It's important to keep turning as you work so all the sides gets felted evenly. The mouth was made from tiny bits of orange felt, just poke it until attached. The "outline" around the edge of the mouth was made with the needle tip, it happens automatically if you repeatedly poke the edge where two colours meet.
Sabrina Nelson no if the nail polish condition are good,if your nail polish is already old they might be little bit yellow. Mine nail polish fo the top coat is become little bit yellow cause it's already old
I think these hacks are really cool, however I wouldn't suggest the transparent nail polish for polymer clay. It tends to get sticky. It may work with some polishes, but it's like 1 out of 10, so it may be not worth it. I was pretty impressed with some other hacks though, they're so simple, but yet we don't think about them! I really liked this video =)
Thank you for the advice!! I normally work with air-dry clay so I didn't realise nail polish reacts differently on polymer clay. I've added an annotation to the video telling people not to use on polymer.
Maqaroon Thank you! To be honest, I tried out different glazes, and the best for polymer clay are actually... the ones made for polymer clay! I use the gloss varnish from Fimo and it works really well, it doesn't crack and it's never sticky, even during the hotter days!
Panda Like I said, it depends on which polish you use, you're lucky to have found one that works for you, but most clear nail polishes tend to get sticky ^^
Hi Maqaroon! I just really want to say thank you! You're an awesome youtuber! You helped me to gain my patience when doing felting crafts And its really awesome! I have made around 10-14 felt crafts! Thanks a lot!
Rainbow Cookies Thank you!! I love videos from Hey! It's Mosogourmet!! あっ、 妄想グルメだ! and bonobos25 so I was trying to use a similar style. I only realised later that they are so relaxing because of the ASMR effect so I started editing my films to enhance that ^_^
Great video! With three kids I have a ton of water bottles that get used up!! Now I know what to do with them! Reuse and then recycle! TFS all these great ideas!
I loved all the craft hacks, super useful! :D Especially the duct tape gloves! I tend to stab myself my accident so the gloves would really help. When you stab youirself it really does hurt...
jamie chua Hi! If you expand the text at the very top of the playlist description, I've included some tips on felting th-cam.com/play/PL5e0wCeBn32vqVFOUgFcKaa1D6V8QEMWi.html And in the comments under each video I've tried to include extra advice on felting which should hopefully be useful :D!
I wouldn't recommend using nail polish to glaze anything, honestly. Nail polish isn't meant to hold up for years, and it usually yellows and weakens over time. Especially if you're SELLING a piece for actual money, don't glaze using nail polish because the customer deserves a quality piece. you could get an 8oz tub of mod podge for a little more than the price of a 0.5oz bottle of clear nail polish (maybe two bottles if you find a super cheap brand of polish, but honestly that just means you're paying for a lower quality product anyway). plus mod podge can be used on air dry and polymer clay (along with having dozens of other uses outside of glazing) and really is only compromised by super hot/humid climates. In short: mod podge does the job better for 1/16th of the price, and can be used for a lot of other crafty things as well since it's basically just fancy glue. the only reason for using nail polish is if you just want a quick finish on a piece you aren't looking to have last a long time
You can use clear nail polish to glaze your AIR DRY CLAY not POLYMER CLAY or any type of oven baked clay. Some countries don't have mod podge. If you use clear nail polish on polymer clay it will make it sticky, but for air dry clay it's fine. I used it for my air dry clay creations and it worked just fine
If you have finished wood (I think this also works on unfinished, but I don't have unfinished so I can't say from experience) baby wipes can get off acrylic paint.
Genius! I really like cutting the clay with dental floss. I've done that for actual large scale sculpting and whatnot but never thought of bringing it to polymer clay! The macaron mold was also very clever. I love all your ideas!
I totally needed the glove craft hack. I keep hitting myself with the needle, unless I do it slower and then a project takes forever... Thank you so much!
About the nail polish remover on wood, I looked stuff up on it and learned that only acetone based removers will stain wood c: I hope this is helpful in any way.
It will also remove the finish!!! Never use acetone on anything except nails!!!!! Just put down newspaper if you don't want paint on your surface. Or wipe the paint up immediately after any spillage. Acrylic paint is only water resistant once is dries. But it also dries to a plastic like consistency that can usually be peeled off of.
Maria Obsuna nope... I've spilled non-acetone nail polish remover on my table, and there is a large matte patch from where the varnish was taken off. Rip.
When I was really young (like 8-9) I glazed my pieces with a clear pink nail polish that smelled like raspberries :P. I still miss that, they don't sell them anymore. Btw, some commenters just pointed out that nail polish should not be used on polymer clay. I only ever used it on air-dry clay so it works fine for that.
Me too! I watched a video where the girl used a brush that looked like nail polish, so I used nail polish. XD they are so sticky now and it creates a layer of goop. I now use glaze, an improvement.
Be careful with nail polish remover on wood as it can take the varnish off sometimes. Plus I already used all the things you showed lol most artists/ crafters do :P
Thanks for taking my comment! I really like that :) . I just thought if point it out at nail polish remover can even remove the paint (eyes) or of a doll and stuff. But it is fine if you use it one ce really quick but depends on the percentage of the remover :)
This is a clever hack video that is actually worth watching, unlike all those carbon copy 'beauty gurus' who think they're original. This is excellent!
TheBecEffect Yay thank you so much!! I try to come up with all the ideas myself...obviously they may overlap with something which already exists but I hope to keep my hacks as original as possible.
Ella Taylor lol it was hard to take off the nail polish but it was worth it cause it looks new now but don't do it on exspesive wood cause it was bad when i did it
+liliana Escobar Yes it can, which is why I advise people to test it out with small patch first ^_^. A lot of "wood" tables are actually synthetic plastic designed to look like wood, so polish remover won't be a problem. The only tables that are at risk are heavily varnished, solid wood tables, and it's probably not a good idea to use those (usually expensive) tables for painting/crafting in first place :P.
+Griffin Plays Hi! I live in Austria so it's very likely that they sell the same things in shops :D!! Croatia is so close, many Austrians drive there for holidays.
Very helpful. I use some of these when I paint. All I can think to add though is the obvious, and that's clean it up while it's dry! Until it dries, acrylic paint is water soluble. That being said: I have found that typically when it is dry, if it is stuck to plastic, varnished wood, or other things that you can't use nail polish remover on, you can sometimes get it up with rubbing alcohol, by carefully scraping it up with a plastic edging tool or spatula (not metal, that will scratch the wood) or even with a pencil eraser, depending. The pencil erasers with the blue bit that can supposedly erase pen ink has saved my wooden desk many many times from acrylic spills. Hope that helps!
Yes, very good points :)! I've been using acrylics for a really long time and it was only this year that I had the experience of accidentally letting some paint dry on a table which wasn't supposed to be used for crafting XP. So I was really relieved to find that the polish remover worked, though it probably would have come off with alcohol or chipping it with my nails. Next time I will have to try the eraser trick too!
I have been painting forever myself, but sadly I own cats, and they like to sneak into my studio and mess with things. I came in once to find a trail of green footprints across one table. I ended up leaving it since it was cute, though. XD I will say this about the eraser, it works best on thin spots! But for a little dry smudge it works pretty well. Thankfully only one of my tables is wood now though. The others have glass or stone tops for sculpting, much easier to clean.
There are a lot of people allergic to latex so the latex glove problem can be resolved by buying disposable vinyl gloves. Costco used to sell them and may still do so. You can get a large box that will last you a long time. I really enjoyed this video- thanks for sharing your tips! :-)
Please use a glass container/actual cleaning jar instead of plastic water bottles! Plastic bottles are really bad for the environment and glass jars are reusable and have the same benefits! :)
You're not supposed to use it on real wood table! Only those plastic table with a wood pattern. That is what macaroon did. She even says it in the description.
I'm sorry but those were horrible reasons why you use Evian bottles. Every other water bottle has those Same attributes as that water bottle so it is *clearly* the exact same as any other stinkin water bottle
fatimalika are you sure I'm the one making a huge deal about it? It seems like your the only one who replied to my comment I was just putting my opinion out there..
Gillian Shepherd Thank you!!! And yes, thanks for pointing out the nail polish tip, I never work with polymer clay so I didn't realise that was an issue until after I uploaded the video ^_^"
First, I saw you poking yourself in the demo and was like, ouch, but saw the description box and was like, phew!;)Glad you're okay!! Ilove ALL the tips! Especially the macaron shell one! AWSOME and it was so kind of you to share things related to your job! I know that quite a bit of people don't appreciate it!!!!!heheh
Thank you! I love sharing things because I find it very fun, sort of like editing an article to decide what people will find interesting. I don't mind if some people want to criticise things because it's impossible to cater to everyone's tastes so I simply aim for whatever the majority will enjoy.
That was such a useful video! I will try the nail polish today on a soft pastel stain, hope it works on that too! And I just had to subscribe to your channel, it's a complete cuteness overload! 😍
I never wear nail polish but try to always have some in my craft room because it's fantastic for getting the sticky residue off scissors after I've cut foam tape. I'll give the acrylic paint tip a try too. TFS x
Thanks! Though as some people pointed out here, please don't use nail polish on polymer clay pieces. Apparently it can turn yellow or affect the quality after several years.
No wonder the clay I made in the past were always so sticky after a while. Thanks for the tip, now I know why.
Maqaroon where are you from??? i realy wonder but if you do not want to tell me it is okay
+diamond12glitter That's what she said.
Also I'm pretty sure Joanna doesn't want to deal with ignorant people like you.
Brina She's from Austria :)
@Sara Pie Thank you! I use the ones which happen to fit with the project I'm making...for instance I always use the cut-off bottle cup when painting, and I use hairspray when dusting glitter or gold dust onto macarons. Be careful when removing paints and stains with nail polish remover because it takes the colour out of some surfaces - learnt it from experience
Emily Ann Bates Yes definitely agree...please test a small surface of your table before using varnish remover.
Maqaroon or just wash your table at Sonic speed right after.😎
i remember watching maqaroon's videos tons of times as a tween. i l o v e d her videos and i still find them really relaxing now! 💕
Such cute projects. I've never tried felting. I might take a 'stab' at it. haha!
@Alpaca Craft Yes, that one is very easy, roll the wool together and keep poking from all sides until it becomes a ball. The "outline" around the edge of the mouth was made with the needle tip, it happens automatically if you repeatedly poke the edge where two colours meet.
Thank you so much! I made one and it turned out great! Just asking, where did you get the nail polish?
And I must say, you get a LOT of views in a hour! Very impressive! ; ) I only get 60 in three days...
You can get nail polish any where like drugs stores
Doesn't nail polish (topcoat) turn into a yellow-ish tint after a while?
Sabrina Nelson no if the nail polish condition are good,if your nail polish is already old they might be little bit yellow. Mine nail polish fo the top coat is become little bit yellow cause it's already old
Did anyone else get the shivers when she was at number 5 and she was filing her macaroon?
nope 😃
Potatoes Are Life
More like
MAQAROON
I'll leave now
I was so afraid of her filing her fingers by accident
The sound hurt
Haru Ayuzawa it’s not like her fingers are going to fall off if she accidentally scratches it a bit. And plus, she’d notice and immediately stop.
wierd...many people who make crafts or are really good at baking (such as Rosanna Pansino) have small hands
Erin Hsiao Lol good point...I never thought about that!
I can't stop watching this video! Urgh I especially love the part when you did the needle felt cutie:3

i feel like she is too professional to use any of these because she is so awesome and better then me at these things, but hey! youre awesome!
This was so helpful! I just started learning needlefelt and I already broke a needle because I was felting too roughly
Anyone else think her videos are like ASMR? So soothing :)
Rainbow Cookies Thank you!! I love videos from Hey! It's Mosogourmet!! あっ、 妄想グルメだ! and bonobos25 so I was trying to use a similar style. I only realised later that they are so relaxing because of the ASMR effect so I started editing my films to enhance that ^_^
Maqaroon I love your videos soo much! I recently discovered your channel btw. Will you ever do a voice/facecam ish video? Like a Q&A?

Wow! This video is magic! Thanks for sharing this! Very helpful! Throughout this video my mouth was hanging open in amazement!
I loved all the craft hacks, super useful! :D
Especially the duct tape gloves! I tend to stab myself my accident so the gloves would really help. When you stab youirself it really does hurt...

I'm starting to do some of the needle felting crafts. Any tips? Thanks.

Needle felting looks SO AWESOME I really want to learn how to do it!!!
Don't use acetone nail polish remover on wood- it will ruin the wood.
Read the description box. It says that her surface is a type of plastic not wood

This makes me want to start needle felt. :P

About the nail polish remover on wood, I looked stuff up on it and learned that only acetone based removers will stain wood c: I hope this is helpful in any way.

Omg! your channel has had so much progress since then!
cool video :) when I first started with polymer clay I used clear nailpolish to glaze my charms but it just smells too much in my opinion >.
When I was really young (like 8-9) I glazed my pieces with a clear pink nail polish that smelled like raspberries :P. I still miss that, they don't sell them anymore. Be careful with nail polish remover on wood as it can take the varnish off sometimes. Plus I already used all the things you showed lol most artists/ crafters do :P

Don't use nail polish remover on your parent's 2000 dollar dining room table, it takes off all the finish. I speak from experience.

Well, the plastic bottles are reusable too. Glass and plastic can be recycled to basically glass or plastic is safer to use for the environment
Techincally you can reuse the plastic bottle instead of throwing it away ...
But if you do throw it away then it won't fully decompose or whatever. Idk if glass does that too, but it's bad for the environment
Even though I don't do any crafts...it's really nice to watch this!~
I don't think the nail polish trick would work on stained tables. it would take the finish right off
No it doesnt work, i was painting on my table that was stained and the colour came right off... regrets lol

Fantastic tips, I never would have thought of most of these myself! Thanks for the great video :)

Thanks! Though as some people pointed out here, please don't use nail polish on polymer clay pieces. Apparently it can turn yellow or affect the quality after several years.

Another good thing with the water bottle as paint water is that you're less likely to get it mixed up with your tea/coffee! :P
